1.5 week old throwing up breastmilk but not formula?

Everytime I feed my daughter breastmilk she throws up, it doesn't seem to matter what position she's in, if she gets it from the boob or gets it from a bottle. She will throw up(not spit up) a few times usually an hour or so after feeding. She's usually very fussy at this point also and looks like she's in pain. I felt horrible and didn't think she was getting enough so I tried formula as a back up and to my surprise only a tiny spit up while being burped! So now I'm stuck feeling like a bad mom because obviously formula is making her happier then my breastmilk can.
Has anyone else had this problem? Can she be allergic to my milk? I haven't been eating anything different.
Does it make me a bad mom if I choose to formula feed her?

i had the same thing, my daughter would always throw up on my breast milk but never on formula i kept trying to breast feed her hoping it would stop but after a few weeks of trying and getting frustrated i spoke to my midwife and she said that it wasn't a big issue some babies just prefer the formula and find it more satisfying so after that she was and still is fully bottle fed, this DOESNT make u a bad mother at all, all babies are different and have different needs. good luck

thats wonderful to hear i was going to suggest she may have reflux and of course you shouldnt feel bad about formula, not everyone can breastfeed and you gave it your best shot and it turned out to be worse for your baby than formula, everyones different so best of luck and good on you :)

Just wanted to let everyone know we went to the doctor she has reflux and is lactose intolerant. So we have her on a lactose free formula and she's been gaining weight beautifully :) I feel alot better about everything now she's alot happier.

NO IT DOESNT MAKE YOU A BAD MOM!!!! your giving her something that seems to be working out better for her. My son was formula fed because I couldnt produce enough milk, my son was losing weight and was extremely gassy and even with a pump i could only get 3 ounces a day. I never once thought I was a bad mom. Formula is there for a reason. My son flourished with formula his weight went right back up and we never had that problem again. He`s now 11 months and happy and extremely healthy. He has been sick once and never really got gassy, slept through the night at 4 weeks. Both my husband and I got to bond with him. He`s a big boy 24lbs and 34 inches tall and has met all his milestones way ahead of schedule. Obviously formula is what`s working for her, so your doing best for your baby and thats whats most important, don`t ever think of yourself as a bad mom.

my aunt has 6 kids and a couple of them we're lactose intolerent, u can buy lactose free formula.
they got really fussy when they were fed, gassy, and would cry for along time so she tried a few thing nothing in her diet helped, but once she tried the formula they started gaining weight and all those problems stopped.
it doesn't make u a bad mom, it's obviously what ur baby wants/needs.

She may be allergic to something that you are eatting/taking that is coming out in your breastmilk. I would write down everything you put into your body and go to the doctor to see what they say.

My son struggled to latch properly and took forever before he did. He kept taking in air but I never gave up and not once turned to a bottle as I knew nature would sort itself out so I never intervened.

He lost weight but eventually got the hang of feeding. I had so much milk, he drank and drank untill he threw up. He would throw up atleast 100mls after a feed. I was concerned but my Dr told me he will grow out of it when his tummy can cope with the amount of milk he was taking in and he did. He was gaining 1kg a month so knew he was getting enough.

He never had reflux and never had colic. It was just a matter of getting rid of unwanted milk.

I'm sure most babies prefer breastmilk, so you'll probably find she is drinking more of it than what her little body can handle.

Of course it doesn't make you a bad mom to feed her formula!! It's made for babies! I had to stop breastfeeding my son at 2 months because I wasn't producing enough and he loves his formula! Has gained more weight and sleeps through the night.

We have aleady tried that Hun, we have tied everything and nt getting anywhere, the formula is now making her sick. There is family history of milk allergies in her dads family, she has been reffered to a specialist, her appointment is on 16th June so hopefully we might get somewhere. x

Maybe you should try nursing then give her a little formula to see if that helps. My dr explained that the breastmilk is very thin so it is easier to come back up so maybe the formula will weigh it down some. But definitely talk with your peditrician!!!

Hi, I have had problems with my daughters bowels for the last 3 months due to breastfeding, the doctrs have now put her on a soya formula due to a lactose intolerance, try changing your diet slightly by using lactose free milk and see if that helps, it wont do any harm trying. x

highly unlikely that she is allergic...highly likely that it has something to do with the latching and air...however, consult your doctor
