Okay...so my beautiful 10 month old 'little' boy is 23 lbs and 27" long, or longer, I can't really remember. Point it, he's grown practically out of his car seat, and I'm unsure what to go to next. All of the other car seats seem to be forward facing, which he's not allowed to be in for another 2 months at least, but he's being squished into the one we have now. Ugh. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance, Michelle

Had the same problem my little girl is big for her age. She has been in a booster seat since she was 11 months

Actually the laws in car seat laws have change all the time. Maybe you should go the to fire department. They should be happy to help you with this matter.

Go with the convertable carseats. Mine goes from 5lbs up to 80lbs and had more leg room for keeping him facing backwards longer. I have a Eddie Bauer carseat. My son was about the same size as your son at that age as well. We were able to keep him backwards until he was 14 mos old.

If you are in the US it is illegal to have them facing forward if they are not 1 yr AND 20 pounds. You most likely won't get stopped for this, but if you are in an accident then you could be sighted for child endangerment. The reason they have the law is because an infants neck is not able to support a crash in a forward facing seat. The head will fly foward faster if facing foward. If they are facing backwards then it does not throw their neck forward. There are toddler seats that you can buy that will face both forwards and backwards. Both my kids outgrew their infant (rear facing) seat at 6 mos. The toddler seats are bigger and have more room. Walmart, Target, etc. will have them (assuming you are in the US).

The baby will be 12 months soon anyway. I had my first son in a front facing car seat when he was 9 months old and he did fine. If the child is big enough to be in a front facing car seat then it's fine. I think I saw at Wal-Mart front and rear facing car seats, i'm sure I did. Ur baby is as big as a 1 year old already, so he will be ok. Good Luck

P.S. Is he walking yet? Or trying to walk? His neck cant get too much stronger if you put him in a front facing car seat when he's 11 months, then what's the difference if you wait till he's 12 months, no difference. :)

the suggestion for forward facing carseats is over 1yr AND 20lbs, they must meet both. My son too grew out of the infant seat much earlier than 1 yr. We simply brought a convertable carseat, it can be rearfacing and goes to forward facing. They are a little expensive but if you keep an eye out you can find they on sale. Babies necks are not strong enough untill after 1 yr to withstand an accident forward facing with out injury. hope this helps

I would say get a convertible car seat. My sis got us a wonderful one when my son turned one year. It is an Alpha Omega and goes from a newborn carseat all the way up to a booster for up to 50-60 lbs. Right now I use it with my son facing backwards, they recommend keeping them facing backwards as long as you can. My son is almost 18 months and still backward, I plan to keep him that way until he is either too tall or weighs to much and has to be turned around according to the label on the seat. This car seat is awesome, not only will it grow with your child, but it also has a removable pillow and cup holder. It cleans easy too. :)

look up britax car seats, we have one that goes from 5-35 lbs rear facing. I don't remember the height it goes to for rear facing, then i can re-install to foward facing when my daughter is old enough. She out grew hers as well. Britax is expensive but we love ours.

You can turn the toddler car seats to face backwards. But I wouldn't worry about him facing forward too much, especially since he is so big.
