I'm doing a rubber ducky theme because my son loves rubber ducks. The colors are blue and yellow. I'm making cupcakes and will decorate them with mini rubber ducks. (They make great favors!) For table decorations I'm going to have round vases with live goldfish and float rubber ducks on the water. I'm getting some of the supplies at Walmart. Oriental Trading often has good buys too! Hope this helps!

I did a circus / carnival theme for my son's first birthday! We had a great time planning it, and the day turned out great. Start by sending an invitation that admits one VIP family to the greatest show on earth; have food that coincides with a carnival (we did pizza, hot dogs, slush, cotton candy, popcorn, pretzels etc.); we had a couple of games set up in the yard for kids to play and a "game board" with prizes that they won for participating. I hired a clown to entertain for one hour - which was so worth the $175! We had circus music playing in the yard - and everyone had a great time; this theme was a lot of fun!!

OK i know lots have answered but some have said what theme they have done and others have said who cares they don't remember it all for the parents FYI it don't matter if they don't remember its the fact you go to all the trouble you take photos it shows them when they are older that you took the time to really think of them and that you cared enough to do it so my advise to you is to go with what your child is really into my little boy is really into Thomas the tank engine and the night garden but because at the time of his 1st bday we couldn't afford to do much so i made him a cake with a giant freckle on it and just made a really big fuss of him and took pics the smile of complete happiness is what you want to see on your little ones face

BUBBLES! I did bubbles when my twins turned 1 this past february and it was great! it's an easy theme to go with because you can get so creative since it's not very limited! also, at even 1 year of age, they are able to enjoy bubbles. we had bubble machines running in sections making a really cool bubble room and we set up little stations where the kids could all play with bubble wands and bubble guns and other bubble toys. we got loads of clear balloons and had them hung everywhere. The clear worked good since the twins are boy and girl, we didnt want anything too boyish or too girlish so it was lots of fun. for the favors we were able to find all kinds of bubble toys for really cheap that the kids all loved. the simpler the theme, the easier it will be to get creative and bubbles just make things feel magical for little kids! hope this helps!

I would do something similar to what he likes, like a toy or tv show. My son's 1st birthday party is this weekend and we're doing zoo animals because he lights up whenever he sees animals in real life, in a book, or on tv. The theme is brightly colored as well so it attracts his attention a little more.

One of the number one themes for boy b-day parties is Pirates. I am not sure if that ok for a one year old but in my opinion it would sure be cute. Have them with painted face's have someone at the party painting the faces. A pirate theme party does not have to be spendy and it could be pulled off with little and lots of fun. Good Luck

well if your on a budget, dollar store are the way to go, they have amazing stuff, cheap and cute, my sons first birthday had, disney pixar theme, all from the doallar store, it came about 30 bucks in decorations, including ballons, the cake, you can either make it yourself, or find a coupn in stores for a cake, and make extra cupcakes to give out to little guys, so the mom, and family members could have the little bigger slices. a plastic drop cloth, or green or white garbage bag in or out side for the first cake, which is what my sis had done for her daughter, and let him go at it. this makes clan up alot easier, put him in his diaper as well for easy clean up, then go out side, and have a pool party if it's a summer birthday, enjoy the son. for favors we bought little candies and safe toys for the tots at the dollar store as well, theme related, or gender related, for boys diney cars, toy story and whinnie the pooh, for the girl, disney princesses, like tiaras, wands and fake jewlery, and also depending on the age as wel. hope this helps, oh and also i am a party planner for young tots, i do have a small charge call me up and find out what other great stuff that can be offered.

The theme for my sons 1st bday was Elmo. He already had alot of Elmo dolls like tickle me elmo and dancing elmo so that's what we chose for his cake. My son's 2nd bday is next month and I'm going to do a cars theme because he loves cars!

I'm not sure yet what I'll be doing for my son's 1st b day. We usually just have a family party, but since there was so many babies born in the last 18 months (15!!!) i may decide to have a friend party too. My son was born in October so i think we'd do a fall theme. We are Canadian so Thanksgiving for us is in October so it may be a Turkey Party or a Pumpkin party.. lol something like that at least.... I should get thinking on it though!

I don't want to make too much of a big deal about my daughters first birthday but am running with a pink theme (with some "1'" :P)
E.g 1 banner and door-hang (pinks), pink cupcakes, pink iced-vovo and tart biscuits, pink wafers etc. Well, I'm not so much actually calling it a theme but pink and 1 seems pretty good :D Down the track can look forward to ladybeetles (or jungles for boys), or fairies (or pirates), etc etc ;)

For my son's 1st birth day I did Mickey Mouse, because I noticed he liked the Mickey Mouse club house. It was nice and colorful. How ever I did not get him a mickey pinata because I did not want him to be scared so I got a big number 1

wow, theres more people out there doing sesame street than I had thought. I as well chose baby sesame street. I had always planned on winnie the pooh, but its seems like everyone does winnie the pooh for baby shower themes, and first birthdays. My son really likes elmo. when he sees somethig of sesame street, his eyes light up and he gets a big smile on his face. and i seen baby sesame street party supplies, and knew i had to go with that. kmart in erie,pa was going out of business and i managed to find the stuff there on clearance, then i had purchased some stuff off of ebay as well. my son also likes toy story as well. so when that stuff ends up going on clearance, im gonna pick it up and put it away til next year. if he still likes it by then, we'll do that as the theme, if not then i will just sell it online or something, and go with something different.

For my sons first birthday party we combined two themes in one and had a Mickey Mouse Luau party for him. It was great and everyone in the family still talks about how much fun it was for both the kids and adults. All the food there was stuff he loved to eat lasagna, mickey shape nuggets, pizza bagels, pasta and coarse fruit. salad. We found Disney and luau music to play and had a few games to play for both adults and kids too. Also something really cool was each couple and family stood in front of a green screen (My hubby is really into photographing ) and took there picture in there beach dress which we then made copies of after being photo shopped to a beach theme back ground and enclosed them into the thank you cards after the party. Also we had a hard cover book made of photos for that first year ending in his bday photos. We will do this part each year so when he is older he will have a collection of all the fun things we have done together. I know a bit sappy but fun to do.

I have a theme for either of my little guys birthdays & am not really planing a theme for this year either, this will be his 3rd.
I just picked cakes...
1st- Pooh Bear, 2nd- Thomas, this year maybe Dino's or big Construction trucks. Just went with what he likes, but really only did the cake. All the rest of the deco's were just the regular balloons & streamers, etc...
Let them choose a theme when they are older!

I did a fiesta for my son's first bday. Green, yellow, orange balloons and streamers, my sister made a sombraro shaped bady cake, I made fresh salsa and whole grain chips...bought pinata with the pulll strings and filled it with junky baby toys (that ended up being thrown out-so may have gone over board with that one) ploayed dora and mirachi music. GREAT time!

we did a rubber ducky pool party it was TONS of fun! we ordered ducks from orientaltrading.com, target sells inflatable duck shaped bath tubs and we filled those with ice to use to keep drinks chilled. for the cake I used a baby tub and filled it with sheet cakes then I decorated it with blue frosting for water and topped it with white chocolate ducks. everyone loved it, and my son still loves playing with all his duckies (which we also used as favors)

Well my boys just truned one and they love Toy Story and the movie Cars from disney so I did a double theme....it worked out well....i had a cake that was toy story theme and ballons all in colors that went with the themes....I would suggest that you do a whipped topping for the cake its less harsh on a babies stomach....and white or yellow cake and just let 'em go for it!

I didnt really have a theme for my sons birthday. Why:?? because at that age they are just getting interested in different things, so why not wait till they older for that... We had a cake with pictures of birth to one yr on it... born, xmas, easter, goofy pics, and then in the middle was his one yr..

i had a pirate theme and we had a beach party. The older children in the family got dressed up and we made the windbreakers into a boat shape with flags etc. it was more impressive for the older children but the little ones loved it as they were playing in the sand and paddling in the sea.
need good weather though

I was like you when I had my son's 1st birthday, he has a lot of fave things, but then he got addicted to mickey mouse so we did Mickey Mouse Clubhouse theme. Since it's summertime, why not have a "beach/luau party" I'm sure he will love all the colors and you can buy cheap pool inflatable toys for decor and use it as his bday favor too! Check www.orientaltrading.com, they have some cheap beach ball inflatables. Hope I helped you with some of my ideas!

Pooh's 1st birthday theme is a great one. There is also the All Stars first birthday theme. I mean there are hundreds of possibilities. Almost all the shows on NickJr. have party supplies. Just go with something that your son enjoys. Just remember he won't remember this particular birthday is more for you than him. Go with what makes you happy.

We did a pirate themed party for my son's first birthday! It was so much fun! Super easy to find pirate decor lately and go with red/black plates. We bought a ton of decor from Oriental Trading and had a pirate ship cake make by the local bakery.

We're going to do a theme of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse with an emphasis on Minnie Mouse for my daughter. She absolutely loves that show. We're only buying a few themed items and the rest are just going to be the main colors used in the show. I'm also going to make cupcakes, as it will be cheaper than buying, and "try" to piece them all together into the shape of Minnie's head. Good luck with the party planning. I'm sure your son will enjoy it no matter what you decide to do :-)
