30 minute sleep

My 3 month old has only been taking 30 minute naps throughout the day for the past month or so. She sleeps great at night after her first 30 minutes. Her sleep cycle is good for 30 minutes...then she is either awake and does not want anything to do with going back to sleep (this is at naptime) or she cries after her 30 minutes and needs some type of comforting to get her back to sleep (pacifier put in a hundred times....rocking...) At night, after this 30 minute deal she sleeps wonderfully the rest of the night 10-12 hours (with two dreamfeeds). Any suggestions...ideas....is this okay? Thanks!

My son was the same way at approximately the same age. Then one day- about a week after his 4 month birthday- he just had this really long nap. I was so used to his 30 mins that I thought he must be ill! But it has continued with at least one long nap (at least 1 1/2 to 2 hours) a day for the past month and some days- today for example- he slept for 2 hours this morning and 1 1/2 hours this afternoon. If she's sleeping well at night and seems alert and rested during the day then I wouldn't worry about it.

I looked into this when I was going through it and I found that a lot of moms said that their children "outgrew" their short naps so hopefully she will too.

I don't think that there is anything you can do to make babies nap when they don't want to (at least I couldn't figure it out!) but I do find now that my son will sleep longer that I will often leave him in his crib when he wakes up- sometimes he will fall back asleep by himself. Even if he's crying when he wakes up I will calm him down and put him back down for the rest of the 2 hour period (or whatever time)

And (sorry, that this is getting long!) my one warning is that, as excited as I was that he was sleeping so long during the day, I did find that I had to limit his naps (wake him up, yuck!) because he stopped sleeping as well at night.

Ok, this was really long- but I'm just assuming that your daughter will start to nap longer for you ( fingers crossed! ) and wanted to prepare you! haha! Best wishes as you continue to schedule your "me-time" in 30 minute increments!

My daughter was also a 30 min. napper. She's mostly outgrown it in the sense that she either sleeps 45 min. or an hour and a half for her nap. She always slept well at night though. I think most kids just grow out of it. Some kids just need a cat nap to recharge and then they're back to playing. As for sleeping at night. Maybe you could try music for when she wakes up to see if that ill help put her back to sleep instead of going in to sooth her (unless you're feeding her of course). My daughter has a music box with a projector that has a time limit on it and I know that helps her at nap time if she wakes up and she's not ready to get up. Just an idea to try.

Hmmm. Not really sure. Do you think she may have acid reflux? My daugher had that; she would burst out and cry for no reason or wake up and cry. Or maybe she's waking up so often because she didn't get enough to eat? How often are you feeding her? Just some suggestions. If anything, you can always ask your pediatrician.
