My daughter in 7 1/2 weeks old. She has had constipation about the whole time she has been home. She pooped one time a day if that and it was really big and hard(formed). They put her on soy formula because she throws everything back up. I tried everything prune juice, kyro syrup, apple juice, baby food. Well finally the doctor put her on a different milk. The milk is making her poop now but she has diarrhia from it. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I would like to keep her on soy formula because she doesnt have diarrhia on it but I dont want her to have constipation either because it was hurting her too bad.

I think you should try gripe water it has fennel and ginger extract and is a lil non-medicated kick start to get the bowels moving ( you can find at CVS or alike and Babies R Us...also if you switch formulas I have been told to make sure to do the following;

1. give 2oz feedings at a time
2. introduce new formula by adding a 1/4 or so of the new to the one you are trying to switch (i do not think this will work for switching from soy to milk or liquid to powder ask your pediatrician for that)
Give a lil water in between feedings

Hope this helps:0)

I know that you might be hesitant to try yet another formula, but once we switched to Good Start, all of our feeding problems resolved. Less spit up, normal poop, better sleeping. We had issues on both similac and enfamil, the similac was especially bad. We also tried the Karo, prune and apple juices, with no luck. The Good Start seems to be the only solution for us, and it costs a little less, so that is nice too!!

my daughter was constipated at that age and the doctor told us put vaseline on a tip of a thermomitor (anal) and stick a small portion up her butt and it should help her go. At least give her the urge. You dont do it everyday only once. If that doesnt work My sister told me (shes a labor and delivery nurse) theres a laxative the doctor can give the child to help them go it is anal. They also should have infant lax at drug stores. Thats what my sister said shes around babies all the time. I hope this works out for you! Also my daughters on Soy has been since the day she was born and shes 9 months now. I hope it works!

Our daughter had a lot of trouble with BM's early on. I was told my the doctor to put a teaspoon of molases in her bottle, twice a day. Once she was going regularly I had to vary the amount. Hope this helps. I can say that now that she is eating baby food, we no longer have any problems.

I went through this with my daughter and the only formula we could get to work for us was the Nestle Good Start with comfort proteins. They say for easy digestion and they meant it.

im not sure if the things i use r available where u r as i am i australia. both my bubs suffered constipation and with my daughter i used to give her a litlle bit of raw sugar in some boiled water every second day.... she would usually poo within the hour!

my little boy is suffering at the moment and for him we use a product called 'infants friend' its is all natural and they can hav it from birth, it helps with colic, wind and bowel movement and i know it cant hurt him because it is natural. if its not available in stores u may be able to purchase it online... i would highly recommend it, its been a life saver for us xx

Give the formul atime to work a lot of times constipation comes from the switching of formulas. My son started on enfimil and that didnt last long we switched to good start (the orange one) and boy oh boy what a differnece no more spitting up no more constipation nothing, also only give formula or a little bit of juice if you have started ANY kind of solid foods that could be the problem too. If it continues get referred to a GI doctor.

My daughter had horrible gas and constipation as an infant. We tried so many different things what worked best for us was we switched her to Similac Sensitive formula which is both milk and soy based and gave her an ounce of diluted pear juice one ounce juice one ounce water 1 time per day in combination with mylicon gas drops for extreme gas. Also we could only use the pre made ready to use formula for some reason the powdered and concentrate didn't settle well with her stomach. The good news is once food came she is regular and soft and has no problems with her bowels. Just keep trying new things until you find what works for her.

First I would wait to see if the poop gets better some times it might take awhile to work... due to all the changes and all the different stuff u have been trying....and maybe u need a new doctor if he is not really helping and just telling u to change a bunch of formulas thats not goood for babys tummy...hope this helps :D

my son had the same issues. we ended up keeping him on the formula we started him out on and put a tiny bit of apple juice in it. if that didn't keep his poops regular, say he went over 24hours w/o one, then i would give him a baby suppository. that would produce one gently in about 15 minutes. i always preferred to do it at night so that he would sleep comfortably.

Hi

Put a few drops of olive oil in her milk with every feed. And ensure that the little one drinks atleast 100ml warm water everyday.

Gud luck!

My daughter has had problems pooping since i stopped breastfeeding at about 5 weeks and she would go 5 days with out going and when she did she screamed bloody murder it made me cry, we ended up first having to put baby prunes in her bottle once a day than we did some prune juice once a day than at about 4 months we started her on baby food prunes and she has to have it every day now or else if i miss one day she will get constipated again very easily! DO NOT use kyro syrup!

We had this problem with our daughter also... We fought it for over 3months. I gave up and did what my mother had to for me... Put her on 2% milk at 5months. It and the baby rice were the only things that helped her. I think they put way too many things in formula anymore and it messes with their poor little bodies.

my daughter did the exact same thing. they put her on similac sensitive. but before they did that i tryed this stuff by little remedies its called little tummys laxitive drops. i used it for my daughter when she was like 3 weekes old. she had diarrhia for a day, but it made everything that wa backed up come out so it wasnt hard for her to go. its only a couplr bucks they sell it at walmart and target. its an all natural product. so its nothing bad. i also let my daighter suck on licorice(black) and she went so good.

Karo syrup! My daughter got really constipated for a few days when she was about 3 months old, she would cry and cry for hours until she pooped so I would make a 4 oz. bottle and add 1 Tbls. of light Karo syrup (I've heard to use dark Karo syrup too) I believe it's 1 Tbls. per 4 ounces of formula. Another thing that could cause this is switching formulas too frequently, pick one and stick to it, switching around upsets a baby's stomach. Here are a few tips for getting rid of the gas: Gripe Water (you can get it at Rite Aid), lay her belly down across your knees and rub her back and lightly bounce your knees, lay her on her back and rub her belly in and I shape then in a heart shape then in a U shape (it's called the I love you rub) this helps to move gas through the belly, push her knees lightly up toward her chest this also helps to get the gas out and lastly, you could try the Gentle formula for gassy and fussy babies. Hope this helps! =)

WHen my son was a few week old he was constipated as well.. the doctor told me to jsut give him a couple ounces of water. It took about a day to work but the next day he was going fine. After that i tried to give him an ounce or 2 of water everyday and he never had that problem again.

Go to any health food store and buy peppermint oil. It is an essential oil that comes in a little vial (probably around $15 or so). Just put some on the back of your neck and hold your baby and play as usual. Within an hour or so, you will see movement. This is so much better than trying to solve a digestive problem with more food - it only compounds what is already stuck. Good luck.

My baby was 3 weeks old when she was badly constipated. I had to take her to the ER for a suppository..what a nightmare!! She had colic too so that certainly didn't help...

The pediatrician told me not to do any more suppositories or her body may become reliant on them.

Even at that age, the doctor recommended a half ounce of water. By the next day she'd gotten everything out. Monitor closely though as infants can have trouble swallowing water (it's thin and they might choke)

Some people recommended soy formula to me, but it just seemed to make her worse. Remember, every baby's different so different things will work for different babies. I certainly wouldn't recommend switching up formulas unless you're doing it gradually and your doctor knows about it as that can have bad effects on your little one's developing tummy

My child had the same problem, so the doctor put her on soy and the soy caused her to get impacted. Then the doctor put her on Elecare formula and its worked wonders.

But as for kayro syrup i dont use it no mor ei did at first but not after i found out that theres a bacteria in it that is harmful to babies.

Breastfeed her if you can. It is a natural laxative. Sounds like she could be allergic to formula. Breastfeeding would solve this if you can do it.

If you are giving her baby food too soon that could be a possible cause. A baby digestive system can't handle food until they are close to 4 months old, I would make sure she gets a little bit of juice between her bottles and if she wont drink regular water you can try pedialyte. And you may have to talk to your doctor about the diarrhia, I remember thinking my son had it when really it was normal for him to have runny stools!

There's this great vitamin you can find at your local health food store called Baby Acidopholis. It's the same stuff that's in yogurt...it has good bacteria in it that help the digestive tract. It comes in powdered form and you can but it in bottles or food or if you're breastfeeding on your breast. It's amazing! It's about $17 a bottle but last for a year!!

My daughter had the same problem when she was a baby I found that White Grape Juice worked the best! She still has problems and she is three and we have to give her miralax every day or else she gets stopped up! I would ask a doctor though before trying Miralax your baby might not be old enough for that. Mirilax can be good for helping go to the bathroom but it also takes away some vitamins so it's good to give the child a multi vitamin everyday!:)) Hope you find a solution, I know it's hard having to deal with that! But when my baby girl was an infant we put half white grape juice and half formula!:))

you can use 1-2 tsp of miralax powder sold over the counter- mix it in with her bottle- it works great and doesn't cause diarrhea like prune juice

My son has had problems pooping since he was born, even in the hospital. I found nothing helped him. Now he has prune juice, bran (as a snack) and I limit his dairy intake. This doesnt really help much without ParaChoc. ParaChoc is like a medicine. If he misses it just one day he has trouble for a week. Even with the ParaChoc he isnt perfect. Unfortunately I dont think babies can have ParaChoc. Maybe ask your doctor if that would help or even if bubs is allowed it. It is so hard seeing them in pain but I havent found anything that is 100% helpful.

All of my kiddos have had constipation issues but honestly give the new formula some time. I know that probably is not the answer you wanted to hear but from your message you have tried everything else. If she doesn't go for a couple days you can either take her temperature rectally (Yes scary thought I know but it works and it is the most accurate way to take a baby's temp) or you can use a bulb syringe and soapy water, maybe in the bath or on a towel on the floor, and give her an enema. I am a nurse in a pediatrics office and I have had to do this with my own kiddos and we recommend these in our office.

Cuz I had my son on a iron fortified formula and that was causing some back up...

I work for a Ped GI doc. I am not sure what type of formula you have your child on but that can be the culprit. You can give you baby some OTC miralax, when they are constipated. But you may if you child is having these issue need your PCP to refer to a GI because there could be some other underlying issues.

regardless of what people sy, it is okay to give a baby some water! =) my son had comstipation and its from the iron in the formula. just try giving your a baby a 2-3 oz bottle of water once or twice a day and your problem should clear up in less than 24 hours. if they wont drink plain water, try mixing a teaspoon of karo syrup in some warm water and it becomes a sweet treat for them. i promise, this works and its 100% safe and healthy for them. =) good luck

My son was constipated from birth to about 2 months old - I used a teaspoon of brown sugar in about 20ml of water twice a day morning and night, that helped him. if they don't like water put it in there milk and they drink it like usual. just keep trying different things that people suggest. I also found when I switched formulas if I used a basic formula without any of the extra vitamins and stuff in it, he began to have better poos. Also when the pain comes ly her on her back and bring her legs bent up to her chest, and do it a few times it helps them relax and puts some pressure on the pain in her belly.
