7 month old ear piercing

I was reading the post you made before this...and it's too bad that you had to have all that negativity said to you.  I started coming to this site for answers...not to be scolded, or to see other moms be put down, or be told they are bad parents.  And why?  Because they aren't like the way other people think they should be.  I'm hoping this site changes to a more positive forum.  We all need a place to go for answers...we don't need to feel like we can't ask a question because we are worried about the responses we will get.

Let me just say that she took it like a champ, and only cried for about 5-10 minutes.  She came home, played, napped, ate well, and would even let me clean them and turn them without much fussing!  It was fine, and she slept great last night!  Now that it's all over I would definitely not want to go through it with a child that is aware of what is going to happen! HA!

I wouldn't get them done at a place in the Mall with that gun thing...there's no way they can actually "sterilize" that thing. I would go to either your doctor's office or a professional piercing place where they used completely disposible or strerilized equipment. Just a thought...

Yeah my peds office pierced my daughters ears, but I had to pay out of pocket. Her peds office, just does it , and charges upfront, they have never billed to insurance. My daughter was 10 months when she got hers, she didn't even bother with them. My daughter cried for a second and as soon as I picked her up, she stopped, so I don't even think it hurt but for a split second.

 

You can get them done at the mall or even at walmart. It should only cost as much as the earrings

I had my daughters ears periced at 8 months wanted to do it eariler but didn't have the money. One of her earings came out 2 times but we got it back in and she is fine. No infections or anything. Just clean them 2 to 3 times a day and use nesporen once a day for the first week. She loves them and looks so cute. Don't worry I have a fight with my inlaws over it as well. There is nothign wrong with getting your kids ears pirced

i got my daughters ears done and she was 3 days shy of being 6 months old and no it didnt affect her sleep.. she cryed for about 10 mins after she got them done and then went and seen the easter bunny lol and she was fine... that dont make me a bad mother and it dont make you one ither.. i think if moms want to get there young daughters ears done they should go ahead and do it, i dont think it makes any mother a bad mother it makes her an eqaul mother just like the rest of us :)

I had my daughters ears done in her pediatricians office at 2mos 1wk after her 1st set of shots, have never had any issues and she sleeps just fine always has.

I had my daughter's ears pierced right after her first set of shots, she was just about 3 months old. A peditrician in my area did them, I had to look pretty hard to find her though. My daughter is now just about a year and has never had any problems. They never got infected, she didn't complain too much about getting them cleaned 2x a day, and she really never touches them.

As I'm sure you will take great care of her ears I would say go for it and good luck to you!

Well said Talya i totally agree my girl is 2 an a half an she keeps begging me to have her's done which she will be having done for her birthday now i only wish id have had it done when she was younger then that way she would hav forgotten about the pain quicker .

has your daughter already gotten her ears done?! if so I would like to know how it did impact her sleeping...I have a 7mo old daughter myself and have been waiting and waiting to get hers done! I just havent had a chance to talk to any other mom of young girls who have done this! and for what its worth I think it is great that you dont let the negitive things people say get to you! its your baby and your just tring to get a little info on it...like me! haha! anyway I would LOVE to know how your little one did! thanks so much

I had no idea ear piercing was such a divisive issue, but I've found since joining COM's, a lot of things are extremely divisive issues! I think that you know what is best for your own child. I personally do not want to pierce my daughter's ears until she is old enough to care for them herself (if she even wants it done), but not because I have some huge philisophical problem with it. I honestly don't even notice when babies have pierced ears.

As far as the verbal attacks, I just think that it's a lot easier to be rude and waaay too judgemental on a medium like this, because you don't have to look people in the face when you say things. Sometimes on here it almost feels like a "I'm-a-better-mother-than-you" contest or something. The bottom line is, we all obviously love our children dearly...we're on a mothering site! If we didn't care, we'd be doing something else. No one is perfect, but I think a lot of moms feel pressure to be, maybe that's where all this anger stems from. Anyway, good luck to you and your daughter!

Hey, I am with you there. If I see people asking questions about things that I think are wrong, I am aware that is because it doesn't suit ME or MY child, but they are not me and do not have my child and so it might suit them down to the ground.

I think that their needs to be more of an effort to stop people resorting to verbal attacks and abuse because they don't agree with someone's methods.

I had my daughters ears done at 10months though I had wanted them done sooner. she fussed for a couple of minutes then nothing. I wanted them done early as I had a bad expecience getting my ears pierced for the first time at 12yrs and didnt want that for her. Plus she just looks gorgeous with her earrings now :)

I had my daugther's ears pierced at 1 1/2 years old and actually wish I would have done it sooner. I wanted it done when it would be early enough for her not to focus on it as something that was done and hurt her, but instead something that was bothering her. At such a young age, all they know is it hurts, it's annoying, etc, and nothing more. Then they get sidetracked by Dora or Carebears and move on much more easily than an older child. Still, my daughter was old enough that she remembers it still and she is 6 1/2. That makes me wish I would have done it sooner. You know that little girls eventually get their ears pierced and there's nothing wrong with making a decision that they would have 99.9% made anyway. In today's society, they all do it. And then more once they get older. At least when they're younger it's easier to appease them. I lead a Girl Scout troop of 7 girls between ages 6 and 9 and run a cheerleading squad of 21 girls between ages 6 and 11, ALL of which have their ears pierced. The little girls that I've known that don't have them done are simply envious of their friends. Don't feel bad for what you did no matter what anyone else says. It's no different then getting them vaccinated. Keep your head up!!! :P

Thank you for speaking out. I pierced my oldest daughters ears when she was three months old, she is now almost eleven and is smart beautiful and a live. Your daughter will be fine.

I say go for it. I got my daughters done at 3 months old. It didnt disturb her sleep. And since it is at a young age there is less chance of infection since they wont be playing with it as an older child might. Just keep them clean. I never changed my daughters earrings, was always afraid to, lol. But her dad last one on his weekend and I found I could just go to Sally's Bueaty Supply and buy piercing earring for like 4 bucks. I dont think its a good idea to put cheap earrings in until they are older like elementary so always use at least surgical steal, and good luck.

aww that sucks so ppl can be so mean and inoconsiderate! i had my 9mo old daighters ears done @ 4 mo.after i got them done* i was in the mall * & i went to change her in the bathroom an older lady had said to me ..why do you guys get them peirced so young?? and some other things...im like its my kid i do what i want.. dont like it oh well..move on! it didnot bother her afterwards however she fussed when she got it done.she slept through the night and it was nothing tylenol / or motrin didnot help.she is still wearin her earings and had a slight infection that cleared up with a lil help when she was younger and was still spitting up.i also totaly feel you on being a 1st time mom and looking for that added support.

Well said, I agree. Seriously she'll be fine, it's not as big of a deal as people were making it out to be. You sound like a great mother, keep it up.
