My son, is known as pleasant baby no trouble, never fusses and never gets loud... all overt a sudden he screams and has fits; when i sit him down, put him in his jumper or let him crawl on the floor, nothing makes him happy, unless i am holding him.... what do i do?
any advice would be helpful

Thank you for all of your great advice, i am going to try everything that you suggested. i'm glad to know that i am not the only one that is having this problem. i thought that i was a bad mom for making him cry, when all he wanted was me.

My daughter did the same thing at that age. That's when we got the backpack carrier. She loved it and I could still get things done around the house without her screaming at us to hold her. When he starts walking you can start having him "help" you. It does help to get him interested in something like the other moms have pointed out.

I started having this problem with my son around the same age...I found it best to get down with him and the floor and play for a lil while. Get him interested in a few toys and slowly ease farther away until he didn't notice me get up to do something else. Eventually it got to where I could put him down and just hand him a toy and tell him mommy had to go do whatever and would be right back. I would always still talk to him as I left though to make sure he still knew that I was there with him. Oh the occasions where he would insist that I stay there and hold him when he was absolutely fine and just being a lil spoiled I would put him in his crib with some toys and just let him cry until he realized everything couldn't be his way.

These aren't tantrums. It's separation anxiety. Just be understanding and give him lots of love. He's just starting to realize that you can set him down and leave and since babies have no sense of time he thinks you may never come back. Try talking to him from another room while dad plays with him and when you come back say something like, "See, I'm back!"
