Amoxicillan rash or alleric reacton?

My daughter, who is 5, was on amoxicillian and she broke out in a rash from head to toe.  The school called me and told me I had to come pick her up.  So I did, and I took her straight to the Urgent Care Center on our military base.  The doctor walked in and took one look at her and said it was an allergic reaction.  She had never been on the medication before, so I did not know what it was.

With your child being so young, I would just stay away from it.  Allergy or allergic reaction, either way it is not worth the risk.  Your child is not old enough to tell you if something is wrong, and amoxicillian (which is a penicillian derivative) can be very dangerous and can quickly go from bad to worse.

my two year old had been on amoxicillan since he was 2 mth old  for continous ear infections and then he had an allergic reaction to the stuff and became immuned to it he had skin rash vomitting diahorrea the works, there is many of other antibiotics to try just ask gp for an altenative i hope i helped

Yes my daughter was 18 months and she had similar but worse reaction. Blood nose swollen face with a large rash on her cheek and neck. I was told she is allergic to amoxicillan

Im allergic to amoxicillin myself.I just started in a few red spots in the morning then i was covered from shoulders to toe by the evening. I now stay away from Peniccilan? (sorry dunno how its spelt). My daughters father is the same and has to stay away from it. So in that case, we are keeping Makayla (my daughter) away from it too.Just to b safe.

My son had the rash and the doc said he was allergic. Wehn in doubt dont use it and tell the doctor how you feel.

My 2 month old was on it and broke out in hives and the after talking to her doctor he said it was an allergic reaction. I have always got a rash from the medication when I was younger so I just write it down as a allergy. I do not want a rash even if it is harmless. Either way there is plenty of alternatives to penicillin drugs. I would just keep him off of it.

My 17 mo old daughter just was on amoxicillin and got a rash.  The doctor took her off of it but didn't say anything about it being a side effect of the medication!  That is interesting.  I will look into it.  Maybe it was a side effect.  Thanks for writing about it!

I took amoxcyllin for 15 yrs and then one day turned out allergic and got a rash and couldnt breath and saw double  allergic reactions can come and go at anytime of life due to chemicals in the body changing. Also, a rash or hives or even itching can be a minor sign of allergic reaction and most doctors will let the med build up in the body slowly to see if it can tolerate it or lose the reaction which is very dangerous. With infants it is hard to tell if they are having trouble breathing so be safe than sorry! Hope this was a help!
