Have any of you other young mothers experienced anxiety disorder after you gave birth?? My daughter is three now & I still have it. It subsided for a little while, but got really bad again this summer. I am on meds & in therapy again now, so that's helping. I'm just curious if this type of thing happens more often in young parents...

Hi Rachael. Yes darl it's okay, I think it happens more than what we think. I experienced panic attacks for a period of 1 month when my daughter was around 8months old. It's the whole change of life routine, career, job, daily tasks and lifestyle/freetime change.

It is not just US anymore is it? I think I found I personall was too methodical whereby I thought I could still keep the routine or my day organised. Well guess what? Nope, it doesnt always run our way. I learnt firstly to let go of any sporadically changes in the day and just leave things uncompleted for the next day and accept it's just the way it is, also I learn to HELP and BE HELPED, its okay to get help from those friends and families if they offer and are around you. I also learned to say NO. If I didn't feel like doing something, going out or having people over, I would express my feelings in a nice way.

This and ultimately doing lots of relaxation and meditation and breathing excersices got me through. I also started to take a step back and simply RELAX. Yes thats right! Even with your kids. You can do it. Just sit on the floor, play games wiht them, you will be amazed at how this sort of attention gives them that satisfaction of bonding and like they are been attended to and will leave you alone for a little while after this. Every body will more relaxed. You get to sit while they play and just simply enjoy their prescence - it wont be long before they are bigger teenagers and won't even want to sit with you on lounge for 10mins! :):)

Last but not LEAST, I learnt to pay attention a little to myself. That is my goals, needs and wants. I started to do a few activities that made me happy and enjoyed.

I hope this helps Rachel and NO you are not alone. I hope these things can help you like they have helped me. I am now a happy mother of 2 children and working from home and loving it!

Hope to stay in touch. I do post some helpful articles on general mom topics on my facebook page - facebook.com/carolina.oses1
