Any ideas for a healthy alternitive for a 1st birthday cake?

My daughters birthday is rapidly approaching, and of course i want to do the whole cake/ party thing... but I have some worries. It seems to me that giving a 1 year old a typical cake, when they haven't had sweets and junk food their entire lives would make them really sick. Maybe I'm wrong, but i don't know. Any other options, suggestions or advise??

It won't make her sick, that I'm fairly sure of. However, a decent back up would be a zucchini bread with some type of alternative frosting? Really though, even if it's just this once, let her go at the cake. She'll be fine (allergies aside)

i made a carrot cake, you can make it with baby food carrots, so you'll have no chunky pieces the kids loved it.

I have 3 kids & in my experience its more about the right of passage.. more cake gets spread on the high chair their clothes & her face.. Also you can bake your own cake & use somr of the alternative sweetners & of course use a much smaller pan.. & lastly instead of regular frosting you can use cool whip or something like it.... I have never had any problem with kids getting sick on their first birthday from cake!! But I understand your concern once my DH's grandma against our request pumped our daughter full of reg soda & every sweet thing in sight like 2 months after her abdominal surgery & she was throwing up all night.

I make muffins and make a cream cheese topping fresh berries as well, my son loves and the fresh berries. Also, as some have mentioned above using applesauce, its a great substitute to the oil and it DOES taste great. One thing I also use is shredded zuchinni.. yep, the vegetable. Just use your handy dandy cheese grater. You seriously can't taste it and maybe others have tried this and can atest its greatness... best of luck, and let us know if you try these other alternatives!

Homemade muffins with real whipped cream and berries on top. They love it, it's fun, and it's fairly low sugar and no preservatives or additives.

a healthier way to make a cake is to use applesauce instead of oil. this is how i make all my cakes...it makes it moister too. and don't worry it's ok to let her have a piece of cake. maybe to ensure she doesn't have too much you could make mini cupcakes that way she's still getting her cake but in only a few bites. use the applesauce recipe for cupcakes too.

makes muffins or something and make your own icing and put that on top. But having real cake is fun they have a blast with. It is not going to harm them. I have four kids, its ok to let them one time
