Any moms from Canada gonna get the h1n1 vaccine??

I just found out that no matter if you are sick or healthy young women are dying from h1n1, a healthy young track star(woman) died from it. Its a tough decision to make. But thanks all for your input, and as a mom still wouldnt trust something they massed produced in less then a month without alot of testing. Good luck to you all and god bless you!!

Well I was told the vaccine gives you a dormant version of the H1N1 so you don't get the actual flu itself but I'm not sure of other side affects it may bring. I do believe that keeping yourself healthy and strong is the best deffence cause you never know if this vaccine will actually work. I know for the regular flu shot, it only prevents you from one strain of flu so you can still get sick from the flu. Why make your body work hard on fighting a flu that you don't have to create antibodies you might not even need. Let it stay strong for when the real thing comes and hope that it does not. It is airborn so even sanitizing won't prevent you from getting it but it will make you stronger cause you are not fighting all the other germs that are around.

i dont know what i'm doing! last time we were at the dr (which was 2 months ago) he said no! he said there's not enough on the flu shot as of then and he does not want to give it to my children. he said wewill wait til it comes out, see what it's like and see what the flu is like then go from there, my youngest is ony 3 months so he cant get it anyways. my oldest is 17 months and he's not in daycare but i'm in school, my nephew too, my mom and two brothers work in the public so that worries me. i talked to a friend of mine who is a nurse and she said no as well. she also has the same feelings my dr does. i dont know what to do. its def a very hard decision to make

a vaccine means it gives you a little bit of the virus/whatever to help your body learn to fight it so you don't have to worry about getting it again because your body knows how to get rid of it...
I've been told that it's not the best idea for parents to get vaccines because if they're given a version of the virus, even for a little bit... wouldn't that make it easier for their child to catch it?
there was someone at the Health Center near our place that recommended to get the vaccine... but I'm not going to chance it. it's the same office that said baby's vix vapor rub didn't exist *rolls eyes* ... doctors aren't always right. sometimes it's best to go with what you feel is right.

This last one is really scary. After tons of searching and talking to the doctor I think the benefits of the flu shot and the H1N1 shot far outweigh the risks of contracting the flu. Pregnant women are hit hardest as our immune systems are compromised to protect the fetus. In the end though, it's your decision whether you immunize or not.

The only people who seem to be dying from it seem to have severe underlying conditions.



I am not doing it nor are my kids, my eldest son cant even get it since he is allergic to eggs and i dont see any sense to force the rest of our kids to get a shot when one of us cant anyways.



We do boost their immune systems though which helps a lot during flu season. our kids rarely eat junk food and when even one of us gets sick out comes the good old vitamines and minerals to boost everyones systems up.



All our kids have had the routine vaccinations but none of the extras, I feel that our bodies need to learn how to fight certain things off on their own its just healthier that way. Plus if your already sick they wont give you the shot, so really timing is a big thing.



The flu can change so easily, and if this one does the vaccines will be useless, it only has to change just a minute detail for the vaccine to be non-effective.

How can they have tested it in what a month?? How safe is this vaccine with children and adults with comprimised imunne systems?? And yes I like to talk when it comes to important decisions that dont just affect me but my children as well. And in my family history, I get the rare side affects every time, and my older son gets the ones they dont even list.

this is such a tough topic...i've done tons of reading on the internet lately and from what i've gotten from everything is that there is some side effects from the vaccine, but they are rare & fewer that the risks of not getting the vaccine. i've read articles that states that the vaccine does have mecury in it, but there's more mercury in a can of tuna that what's in the vaccine. you can also have a side effect of something called Guillian Barr (or something like that) that paralyzes a person and sometimes can cause death as well, but on the news today, they said that it was 1 in a million. i was totally against getting this vaccine as well, but I will be talking to my family Dr before making my final decision, i've got a just about 6 month old daughter, we're in Manitoba. How does a person make such a huge decision??? also the news said that this vaccine has been proved safe as tests have been completed. but i do too believe it's too new & that they rushed it...........and then they also say that people who have gotten the regular flu shot are more likely to get H1N1 that those who haven't. I would say no and just stay away from public places, but even just with family get togethers, someone could be carring that darn flu virus. can I really take that chance?

I have an 8 year old daughter, 4 almost 5 year old son who get low blood surgars (opisit from diabetes) and 8 month son. I talkd to my husband and he says that we shouldnt give them that shot that they dont even know what the side effects are and risk loosing one of the kids to a side effect.

Glad to know I am not the only one worried about this! My children are 18 months and 6 weeks. I don't know where I stand on getting them the shot. Part of me doesn't trust something they just developed so quicky and no one knows what the side effects are, long term effects? On the other hand the H1N1 is scary too.



Still don't know what i am going to do,

Oooo, I don't know either, about even getting a regular flu shot. No one in my family has had any flu shots ever. I'm so afraid of all that's going on in this world, the H1N1 flu is everywhere! So far (knock on wood, lol), all has been good in my family, I have a 5yr old, a 5month old and a husband, and encourage all who get to leave the house to wash their hands immediately after coming home and I clean the door handles regularly too. We all rarely get sick and I hope that is still true after posting this. Good luck with your decision, hope all goes well:)

I agree...they say that people with a regular immune system should be able to fight it off alright. I think as long as you're keeping the house clean, enforcing hand washing and providing proper nutrition; a regular joe flu shot should do just fine :)

I would not do it! they mass produced that shot and did it so rapidly that there was little or no time for testing! Plus the vaccine is only directed at one strain of the virus-whats to say it is not going to mutate and then that shot will be moot...I would go for the regular, tried and true flu shot, and keep up the handwashing up dosages of Vit C! I hate to see the side effects that come from such a quickly mass produced shot...scary!

Im in Alberta and where I am at we have had at least 5 deaths. But unfortunately i cant just stay out of public places, my kids school has actually enforcing the children to wash and sanitize their hands. But I my self had a horrible reaction to the regular flu shot, Im worried what this could do. Also I am goin back to work early and I work with seniors70+. And from what I heard it strikes healthy women and children. I dont wana live in fear but my god, I dont want anything to happen to my little ones.

I know im scared and have an 8 mth old son aswell who is sick 2 lol with a cold wich has me even more paranoid. We went to the emerg last weekend alot of ppl were wearing mask so i seated as far as i could from everyone. Its also true bou the flu hitting hard this yr 2 ive never ben this sick and alot of my family members aswell.

I have talked to my family doctor and he said he and his family was getting it. But when I was trying to ask to find more out he could barely tell me about it. Today I went to the OB and had a long talk with him. Who would know more about it because of 90% of his patients are pregnant. I was worried about the so called mercury in it. Actually the swine flu shot is almost the same as the regular flu shot and what it is made out of has been tested on people longer then people really know about. There is no mercury in it what so ever. The other thing the OB told me today is that the "flu's" are hitting harder then ever this year. That the count for the flu is already at least years peak and we aren't at the peak of the flu season this year. I was totally against getting the swine flu shot until today when I talked to the OB. (I'm in Ontario) Hope this helps.

I'm not comfortable with how fast they came out with this vaccine, there's no way they can know the long term effects of it. I've never even had the regular flu shot so I have no intention of giving this to my 6 month old daughter. (I'm in Ontario)

I'm not vaccinating my son for it (Maple Ridge, BC). They don't know eneough about it yet to be handing it out. I find it a wee bit fishy that they developed it so quickly, when it can take years to develope other vaccines. My little man is 6 1/2 months old and he'll be getting his routine vaccinations and that'll be all. We've had quiet a few cases in the lower mainland, but till the season has passed I'm keeping him away from anyone that is sick, and we've avoided public places unless necessary.
