My son started this after seeing Monsters Inc. He thought there were monsters in his room and sometimes he tells me he's scared of the dark or dinosaurs or whatever else he thinks of. I pray with him and tell him Jesus sends angels to protect him and he has a lamp on very very low light and he does fine with that. A friend of mine puts a special invisible suit of protection on her child, pretending to slide his feet through the legs and arms through his shirt just like it's a real outfit and that works for her child. I've also heard of a mom that uses "Monster spray". She has a spray bottle with a monster drawn on it (filled with water) that she sprays lightly throughout her kid's room and that works for her. :-)

I think it is normal. Have you been asking her what she is scared of and talking to her about it?

My 3 year old does that. She goes to take a nap she is at her door screaming "I scared! I scared. I want out!" and at night she goes "I scared of the dark!" and she has 30 night light fire flies on her ceiling that light the whole room. I've tried everything. She's even gotten her 2 year old sister on this kick. She didn't start it until she saw her 5 year old cousin crying about the dark. She used to be fine.

My daughter does the same thing.. She says she's afraid of the dark.. When I put her in her bed I put her night light on which gives off a bit of light and tuck her in,give her hugs n kisses, and I read her a book in the dark using the light from the night light. This seems to make her a bit more comfortable with the darkness. When i'm done reading I say goodnight give her one last kiss and leave her room. She rolls over and goes to sleep. Good luck:)
