any one using the birth control "mirena"?

i tried using the mirena and had the same problems and then my body was rejecting it and started pushing it out and it was alot of pain and cramoing needless to say i had it takin out and now have implanon it goes in your left arm on the inside and lasts 3 years .......

i got the mirena put in when my baby was 6 weeks old and she is know 20 weeks i just recently stopped all the spoting but it sometimes comes every now and then my doctor said it could happen like that for up to 6 months but i love it i havent had any cramps or anyting withit only the spotting

I had paraguard put in between my babies and loved it. My insurance only covered Mirena after my son's birth so I've got it now. I spotted lightly for about two months after insertion, especially during stressful situations or heavy exercising, and now I occasionally have menstrual like cramping about once a month but my period has become almost nonexistent, which is a plus. So, IMHO I would have preferred to stay on the Paraguard but the Mirena is better than birth control pills or condoms.

I didn't realize there was a 10yr IUD - after 5 I as told to have it taken out as it would only be natural for our bodies to start to reject it. Interesting.

I got the mirena IUD, the 10 yr one, I was uncomfortable for about a week after having it put in. I dont remember how long I spotted for but I do remember it feeling like it would never stop. I actually got pregnant with it, but I had trouble with it, my cervix was pushing it out, and I didnt go back after I believe 2 wks, instead I waited like 2 months! Bad on my part but having a young child I was super busy... I dont know if I would get it again. God just wants me to keep having kids I think, I have gotten pregnant on the depo shot, birth control pill Jasmin, and mirena 10 yr IUD!!!!!

I have had 2 mirena's and I didn't spot with either one of them. I have heard of it though. I don't think that anything would be wrong. If you suspect anything you should call your obgyn.

mirena gave me awful experience! i had very bad cramps, sharp pains on and off in my "womenhood". I had period for 3 months straight. It also gave me high estrogen level. Yet to this day, I am suffering from high estrogen level that I have gotten from mirena. The best birth control that worked for me was NuvaRing.

I opted to use the Mirena IUD after my son was born. I got it placed around the 6 - 8 week mark after the birth and I've still got it in and my son is now 16 months. I've yet to get a period and have had no pain or spotting to speak of. I talked to my doctor about not having my period and she suggested to I wait 6 months after I ended breastfeeding. Well, those 6 months have since past and I still have no period - I must admit that I've yet to shed a tear over that fact - but it does weigh heavily on my mind. I do plan on having it removed and have not decided if I will get it again or not. I do wish you the best of luck with yours.

I have had minera now for over 4 yrs. It took around 6mths after I got it before i stoped haveing my period all together. I had a few spoting from time to time but nothing big. I still bloat from time to time but nothing like I use to. i do know someone who had it in for years and kept having her period. But I like it and will probably get it back in when its time to change it.

I have had mirena for a little over a year now and absolutely love it...that being said I was warned by my doctor of ALL of the possible side effects and was told that at any moment if I did not feel comfortable with it I should have it removed, i also asked probably ever possible question I could think of. I was also told about the risk of getting pregnant and losing the baby, although all babies conceived while on mirena are not lost, it was a slight concern for me, but given my current situation and lack of diligence taking the pill I knew that it was my only reliable form of birth control at the moment. I also had spotting for approx. 8 weeks so it should subside, if it doesn't I would definitely contact your doctor. Good Luck and I hope it works for you!!!

I have the mirena. I had it put in after my baby a few months ago. I bleed for 10days or so after it was put in. Then I continued to bleed off and on pretty heavily. My Doc save me OCP's which defeats the whole purpose of the IUD. I will probably take it out within a year. The IUD is about 99% effective. Goodluck

I am on it as well. I had to admit at first I hated it, because I kept spotting and awful painful cramps. Now after having an year I like not worrying about having an period and no side effects of weight gain. I have weight loss though, which is a little out there since I am already thin.

I have mirena and havehad it for about 4months. I spottedfor the first 3 off and on but no i have had no period and no spotting for 2months. I absolutely love it! The spotting will stop eventually,like i said i spotted for 3months but now i no longer have aperiod atalland the doctor said that is normal.i have no pregnancy symptoms or anything.I am just a happy camper!

I've has mine for almost 2 years ... i don't have a period anymore and I have occasion spotting ... i'm talking a few drops every couple months , 1 day. i like it although like some have said i do get a sharp pain every now and again and i've timed it to when i should be ovulating ... so i don't pay too much attention to them anymore.

I spotted a little for the fist 6 months (FYI that didn't deter my hubby from sex if that's an issue for you). I have one little one, he's a birthcontrol baby and after talking to the doctor I chose Mirena because she said that's the best form of birth control for anyone who got pregnant on birthcontrol before. She said it can take up to a year for your body to COMPLETELY adjust. but on the plus side, I've experienced fewer side effects with Mirena than ANY other type of birthcontrol (to include: 3 different pills, and depo shot) also if you get migranes Mirena is the Only birthcontrol that won't make them worse. I got mine placed a few months after my son was born, i bled for 3 months straight. One day i went to check the strings and the were so far down, i went to the doc and it wasnt attached so i had to have another one inserted, well about 3 months later went to have it checked again and of course it wasnt attached again. So about $1200 later they finally removed it and said some ppls body doesnt take to it. My body was one of them, but it is different for everyone. I cannot remember to take pills so i thought this was my best bet. I would like to look into getting the essure, anyone have any reviews on that?

I had the Mirena placed after my youngest daughter was born. It was in place for just over a year. I was nursing her and was recommended to me by my OB to wait at least 8wks post delivery to have it put in. I sighed and said okay and I didn't have any spotting or bleeding for the entire time it was in place. I would get the cycle moodiness once a month for a day or two but no cramping, no bleeding, no nothing really. It was GREAT! I had it removed at 14 months post placement due to my current DH wanting to have kids. I had 2 girls already but he didn't have any kids. We were pregnant within 3 months and have had 3 kids now since its removal in Nob 06. I will be getting it placed back in next month. The regular pill is just not a good choice for me as I am bad at remembering to take pills everyday. I have to set a reminder on my phone to take my blood thinner pill or else I forget it, hehe oopsie!

I personally love my side effects of it. I mean no cycle while its in, dh can't tell its there, no pill to remember, and i actually lost weight while it was in.

Hello there mother of 3. I've had the mirena for about 3 yrs now. In the beginning if feels like your spotting forever but it will get lighter and eventually stop. Everyone is a lil different but I spotted for about 6-7 weeks. Now I just get a light period for a few days. I haven't had any problems with it at all. I'm thinking of renewing my contract when my last two years are up. lol Hope this helps.

I have always been bad at remembering to take medication as scheduled, so the Pill is a bad fit for me and the length of time the mirena is good for (5 years at a time) really appealed to me.

I personally would reccomend trying the Mirena.

so you said you had indometriosis and this has worked for you for 4 years, good cause i've been getting worried i just had mine put in about 8 months ago and i have what feels like i'm being stabbed about 2 days before my period does yours come with your periods or are they speratic??? we have 3 kids and i am pritty sure i don't want anymore right now so this kinda worked the best since are last baby is a birthcontrol baby we decided pills don't work for me so i was hoping some of this indo pain will go away

I have had the mirena in almost 3 years now... I think it's the worst option to take... It had to be put back into place 3 times. Now it is stuck inside the uterus. So in order to even have the thing removed it has to be surgically removed. I have nothing but pain and all the time spotting when not expecting it too. It's more of a hasle to me then anything. PLus to top things off i have never in my life had any infections until this was placed in. I advised you if you keep it make sure to follow up with the doctor atleast once a month just to make sure things are going smoothly.. Question for you why r u thinking about having it removed???

I used the Mirena for just over a year. I had spotting for quite a while after it was put in. I think it was about 9 weeks. But after that... nothing for the rest of the time it was in. It completely stopped my periods. And it was VERY effective. My husband is allergic to latex so we were really glad that he didn't HAVE to use protection anymore because the Mirena was THAT good at preventing pregnancy.

I got an IUD in July. I love it, and just like you, I got pregnant with both my kids on the pill. I know no birth control is a 100%, but it is very nice to not have to take a pill every day. I hate taking pills every day. It did take a while for my body to adjust to having this foreign object in my body, some spotting like you've had now and then, but it is January of the new year and I am regular now. The only difference for me between this and the pill is that I may cramp a little more now, but not much different. I am so glad I got the IUD. I know I don't want to get pregnant again anytime soon, I have two boys under the age of 2. I told my hubby if I get pregnant on the IUD, we're both getting fixed after I have the baby. Hahaha! I have the mirena and I LOVE it. I did spot off and on for a little while. I have had it for 2 years now.I haven't had a period in that time either. WOOHOO!!!! That was the deciding factor for me. I don't even know it's there anymore.

Hi! I have been "on it" for almost a year and as of now I might actually have my period one day out of the month, but I am very moody and ugly to my husband and anyone else for that matter the week before, the week of, and the week after! I go to the doctor on the 19th and I am going to discuss it with my doctor. They say that the spotting for the first couple of moths is normal though!

It took me about a total of 4-5 months to stop spotting but now i just have a VERY light period every month for like a 1-2 days and i ♥ it!!! When i got mine i was wondering when the spotting would stop too and they told me that it dooes normally take 3-6 months for it to completly stop. If you can handle it then you are fine. I mean would you rather go through this for a few months and then be normal or take it out and have to take a little pill everyday and worry if you missed it or no? =]

I've had the Mirena since April of this year, and I am overall very happy with it. I've had some occassional spotting, random periods, and a little bit of pain at times during sex. However, it beats both the pill and the ring for many reasons and I have really enjoyed the peace of mind that comes along with it. I plan on keeping the IUD in until my husband and I are ready to have another baby. When I spoke with my doctor about it prior to getting it, she explained to me that the first 6 months would be the worse if I were to have any symptoms. If you can, try to stick it out for a little bit longer and see if the symptoms subside and talk to your doctor prior to makinng any decisions.

I've had the Mirena IUD for almost 2 months and its pretty decent. The only thing is I do get abdominal pains every now and then. I spotted for the first week or so and now I get my period regularly. My recent cycle I believe I was on for about 6 or 7 days! I know, ahhh right? But it was lighter than before the procedure and I didn't have any cramps. I always cramped for about 2 or 3 days and they were SEVERE before I had the procedure so I think that is why I would keep mine in for that reason. Of course I have a 23 month old and don't plan on him having a sibling until he's at least 4 but I really dont have any complaints about it except for I wish I didn't get abdominal pains sometimes. Just remember that every womans body is different and reacts differently to these type of procedures. Give it a little time and hopefully you will see better results. Good luck!

It gives me the absolute worst cramps ever...sharp pains and feelings like my ovaries are going to burst.. my periods are getting lighter now but fora while they were way heavier and way longer. I am not sure if I will stay on it..

hi i have used the mirena awhile ago as i was told it was the most efective form of contriception, about six weeks after i had it i fell pregnant and was told to abort the pregnancy as the mirena could be embeded in the baby i went on with the pregnancy she was fine when born and the mirena was found embeded in my hip bone.so i would not recomend it.oh i also had spooting and bad migrains while it was in. hope that helps.oh im a mum of five it was my third that happend with.

I bled steadily everyday for 5 months straight. I absolutely hated it and was so close to having it taken out. I am a very patient person, obviously Lol. Other than that, it's been working just fine for me.

I recently had Mirena placed as well. I haven't noticed any issues as of yet. You may want to notify your doctor and ask to see if the placement is correct or if it needs to be fixed. Every woman is different, so this may just be how your body is reacting to it. I would definitely contact my doctor for advice, if I were you.

i had mine put in when my son was 6 weeks old he is now 25 weeks and i really like it. i had the sharp cramps and pains and my obgyn told me to take ibprofeun after every meal 1 week before i start my period and it helps.

I am also a mother of 3 with my youngest being 5 mos. old. I had it put in about 4 mos ago and I love it. I did have the constant spotting for the first 8 weeks or so but since then I've had very little to no spotting every now and then. I also haven't had a period which is always an upside. I too like you thought about taking it out at the beginning but luckily I hung in there and now I'm so happy with it. Hopes this helps!

i've had my mirena for about 9 months & yes i did spot for about the first 6 weeks i called my dr & he called me in a pack of pills just to get my body in balance! then i didnt have a cycle until last week so i'm relly happy w/ my choice so stick in there grl & get your dr to give you a pack of pills to stop the spotting!

I have the Mirena and have had it for the last 5 months I have spotted the whole time that I have had this thing as well. I called the doctor to find out why I am still spotting and let me know that it can take up to 6 months for you to stop the spotting. It has slowed a little since I have called. And I am hoping that in the next month I will only have my monthly!!



I also know many people that have the Mirena and some like it and some don't...I think it is just a personal preference!!!

I don't have it I have the paraguard which is the 10 year IUD.. my cousin has the mirena though and she absolutely hates it.. she's a health nut and still gradually gaining weight, mood swings, and lots of headaches... (this is everything she has told me about it) but everyone has a different reaction

mine is great. but sometimes i start spotting and itll go one for about a week or two. but its not heavy like a period. its a real pain. but other than that its all good. i think i spotted awhile after i got mine put in last oct. i understand the whole pill thing oops here too! youll have to go to your doctor (obviously) to get it takin out he maybe able to tell you more about it. good luck and i hope you find the bc that works for you if its not the mirena

Hey! I actually have had the "Mirena" for going on a year and a half now. I am a mother of one and have had problems with my blood pressure when using pill form contraception. My husband and I decided we wanted to have another baby but not right away so this was the best alternative. For the first four months I spotted to the point I had thought it migrated (moved to another area) but I was checked and it turned out to be a normal side effect. I said to the MD that it was quite annoying to have to wear a pantyliner all the time and he assured me it would eventually stop. I am an RN and I am on my feet for 12 hours at a time, and frequent bathroom breaks stink never mind are hard to come by. You know you have 3 kids, ha! But it just stopped about 6 months in and I (and my husband) could not be more pleased. It does stop and is a frequent side effect but staying with it is key to success. I have also heard that you can spot at times when your period is due...but eventually that too does stop. Hang in there, I was where you where and I am glad I stayed with it! Take care...

Yes, I LOVE it!!! If you can hold out past the first few months it is way worth it. I know it is frustrating, but your body is emptying everything in there.... It's gonna take time. After it was gone, I had no more bleeding for the full 5 years. I am on my secound one now, and have not had any spotting with this one since I was still 'cleaned out'.

I had the MIrena and I gave it a year before I took it out. Before the Mirena my periods were 3 days with no cramping. After the Mirena I was bleeding all the time it seemed. By the end of the year I was still having 2 week periods, and have a very hard time losing weight. Oh and the cramping was terrible. Oh and the most painfull part having it inserted. That was very painful. Please read up on this a lot before getting it. I was told the bleeding should stop after 6 month but in 10% of woman it does not. Me and my husband chose a more permnanent fix. Good luck to all the woman out there...oh and I was told that the hormones in the Mirena were not enough to cause any symptoms.

I am a Mirena user myself. I have had it for a little over a year now. I love it. I did have and still have occasional spotting, but overall I do not have a period anymore. My doc said that the spotting is normal and that there are some women still do have their periods. A friend of mine still has her's but she has said it is not as bad as they were prior to having the IUD put in. It is much more effective than the pill, also there is no worry if you forgot to take it!! Hope this helps!

I had it for about 6 months after I had my daughter and it was horrible. I bled constantly and had such bad cramps I could barley get outta bed in the morning! It just wasnt worth it to me. I kno alot of people who liked it as well tho. Everyone is different thats what the dr. told me. Good luck!

I have had the mirena for four years now. did have spotty, irregular periods at first but stopped having periods almost completely within the first year. I now rarely get a "real" period. What I get for a period can be taken care of with a pantyliner for a day or two. I have only recently had an actual period. Thinking about having it removed soon, but only because we are planning on baby #2. I will definitely have another mirena placed after the next baby! Absolutely love it!!
