Any reccomendations for diaper rash?

My daughter had a horrible diaper rash when she was just a few weeks old. What the NICU nurses were doing was putting a layer of Pepto Bismol on (so soothe the burning) and then a layer of vaseline and then the diaper rash creame (I used Penaten- got at Walmart) And it cleared up in no time at all!!

Triple Paste worked really good wit my daughter. I tried A&D Ointment, Baby Powder, Balmex and that other one but the only one that worked for her was Triple Paste. Of course, every baby bottom is different!!!

Well I have to say au natural olive oil on the bum is very good. It obviously is safe enough to eat, so safe for your babes delicate rash. Also putting some on and letting babes bum air out a while is great. Also make sure you are changing diapers often! You can try making your own wipes and solution without the chemicals/alcohol that disposible wipes come in. I use bamboo wipes (soft as anything!!) with a solution of water, olive oil, natural baby soap, teetree oil (anti-bacterial fights and prevents rash) and lavender oil. We have had very few small rashes because of this.

If you have blister like spots, not pussy ones, I always put a dusting of Corn Starch on the baby's skin. It's odd but it works great to dry up the wetness keeping the skin from healing but it also softens the baby skin and cools it.

I also swear by Boudraeuxs Buttpaste!

I always made their own paste I took vaseline and mixed it with cornstarch. Worked really well

olivia, good point! I only use wipes on the #2s and wash clothes for #1. The wipes have alcohol so it can be bad on some sensitive skin. There are expensive wipes too but much cheaper to use wash clothes!

I love A&D ointment(without zinc). I've been using it for my son and he's 19 months now, but I don't use wipes on his butt I heard it contributes to rashes. So I use a wash cloth at all his diaper changes times. I only use wipes when outside and I use Huggies Natural Care. So far he's only had one diaper rash and that's because his father didn't put ointment on his butt.

cornstarch!!!! call me crazy but it worked like wonders for my sons butt..haha my mom and grandmother told me about it... and i though they were crazy, until i tried it and it WORKS!!!! better then what the doc gave me for his rash

really any ointment can be good as long as you use at all diaper changes, especially after dirty diapers. And make sure to change dirty diapers asap and apply a good amount of cream/ointment before bedtime. If the rash gets really bad and looks really painful, see your pediatrician. My son was 2 mo old when he got a rash that wouldnt go away and I had been doing everything everyone had told me including letting him air out and everything. But turns out he developed a yeast infection!! it was awful and we needed an antibiotic cream

i know u will probly think im crazy but its is an old wives tale but it does work because i tried it on my son and it healed him but u take a dirt dobber nest and smush it till its powder and put it on the rash itself and thats it dont wipe it off till next diaper change i only had to do it once and my sons rash was gone and actually he never even got another diaper rash matter of fact lol but i just realized that hehe:]

Boudreaux's Butt Paste! My son had a rash for over 2 weeks, and the pedi gave us some samples, and it went away so fast! I swear by it, and don't use anything else now.

I swear by Desitin. It works wonders.. My daughter use to get diaper rash every now and then and I would just apply Desitin and it would clear it up so quickly..

I know this sounds weird, but go to the pet section of Walmart and find a green square can. It is called bag balm. This is a great diaper rash product and i have used it on all 3 of mine. The only thing u should know is that when you use it, u need to let baby sit diaperless for a while. If there is any moisture on his / her skin, the bag balm will seal it in on the skin and make a rash worse. If baby is dry, it will moisturize the skin while sealing out any moisture. IT WORKS GREAT!!!!! Try it.

The best thing for my son has always been a bare butt! Ive tried several pastes but nothing beats fresh, dry air on a bare bottom for a little while. After I let him "air out" for about an hour I use A+D! The pastes with zinc are supposed to work better, but they are a pain in the butt (literally) to wipe off, esp on an already sore bottom! i use baby powder after baths and before bedtime to keep her from having a diaper rash... it works really good. very rarely have to use buttpaste or anything.

if you have a bit of vasline like petrolum jelly just a thin layer after diaper change, that or Flanders buttpaste anything to make a wetness repelling layer between the skin and diaper

apply any ointment that you preffer ,But also when you give the baby a shower let it air out a little bit before putting on the diaper.dry the baby well put the paste and let it air out for like 10 to 15 mints. i do it when my baby has it and it heals faster.

I live in grand rapids, mi and we have this stuff that a pharmacist created called "magic butt paste" or "magic butt creme" it's a prescription that you can ask your doctor for. i'd first ask your pharmacy if they know what it is and/or can make it. this stuff will clear up any redness within hours.

My son had horrible diaper rash right after he was born....a friend recommended Triple Paste....I used it for two days, and the diaper rash healed completely...now at the first sign of redness, I use that and it's gone within hours! I love it!

I use A&D ointment (without zinc oxide) at all diaper changes before she sleeps or may need to sit in her diaper for any amount of time. Otherwise I change her as soon as she wets or messes herself. I wipe and allow to air dry completely before I put her new diaper on with or with out the ointment.

I have no preference between A&D brand or CVS brand, they are different though. CVS brand speads easier and has been absorbed by the next change. A&D brand is thicker and need to be wiped off at the next change.

I have been doing this since she came home and have never had to treat diaper rash. She is twelve weeks old now. I haven't even been through two tubes so this is an affordable way to prevent diaper rash.

i use cotton wool and water instead of wipes and bentphan!! works a treat for my daughter who gets really bad rashes! hope it helps!

I swear by Dr. Smiths. Both my boys have really sensitive skin and break out in diaper rash often. It's the only thing I have found that works for them.

I'm more of a naturalist so, I don't put any unnecessary chemicals in/on my baby. At your local health food store you can buy a diaper spray called "Bye Bye Diaper Rash" works wonders. It also great because you just spray it on there and don't have to risk infection by touching it. I would stay clear of Bordeaux's Buttpaste I used that on my son when he had a rash. It hurt him so bad when I put it on he passed out from the pain. It was by far one of the worst experience I ever had with him. It was heartbreaking. I hope you will check out my Herbal solution.

Dr. Smith's is the miracle cream for my daughter, one application and you can tell its working already! Also dont use babywipes just use wet paper towels or a wet wash cloth, and sit in a warm tub no soap!!! Good luck!

There is this stuff that is called Baby Arbonne for rashs, it's all natural and I swear by it. It will take the diaper rash away in 2 applications, it's amazing!!!=]

The best cream I have found is Dr. Smith's. It can be hard to find sometimes, but you can usually find it at any local pharmacy or chain pharmacy like Walgreen of CVS. Another great cream is Happy Heine, however you'll have to your pediatrician call in a prescription for this & not all pharmacist will carry this since it has to mixed on the spot. Also, let your baby go sans diaper and air out as much as possible!

Bordeaux's Buttpaste works really well, but honestly I use Vaseline or anything with zinc oxide in it and it works just fine! The vaseline works by keeping moisture away, and it's really cheap too!
