I have just been recently diagnosed with high blood sugar, I am taking medication to treat it. This type of high blood sugar I have is non insulin dependant. I was told I have to cut out carbs from my diet completely. My family is big on pastas, anything with potatoes, pretty much everything I make has carbs. I am looking for any suggestions on meals that do not have the carbs or too much sugar in them that will taste good. If anyone can help with any suggestions, I would be greatful. Thank you to any who help.

My husband has type 2 diabetes and was allergic to the medicines they offered him. We decided to make changes to our diet and ultimately, that was enough. The first thing you need to know is that all diabetics are different. For my hubby, white flour is just out. Sadly, he also can't have potatoes, and he simply doesn't eat sugar when he can avoid it. But he also can't have nutrasweet (ptk). You can get wholewheat pasta and Barilla makes really tasty versions. Because wholewheat isn't a simple carb, your body will process it better and your blood sugar should drop. Rice is out, but some diabetics are okay with brown rice. Not my hubby. Barley pearls made a great substitute. He can eat sweet potatoes and yams. They aren't nearly as sweet if you drop some chili powder in them (not enough to make it too spicy, just enough to alter the flavor). Beans are good, corn tortillas are good, and meat is very good for you. You still need vegis and fruits, but avoid fruit juice -- it's better just to have the fruit. Don't forget nuts, they are great protein with healthy fat and yummy snacks that help your blood sugar go down. If you want a sweetner, opt for stevia whenever you can -- the plant it comes from will help strengthen your pancreas, which is the organ that isn't doing what it should in diabetics.

I know that most grocery stores have a section for diabetics that has some goodies! Mostly it's for sweets though. As far as meals aim for more veggies! I'm not sure what to say as far as sides go. We usually have at least one starch with meals also. I'm pretty sure they make special pastas and breads that are gluten free, they might work. I'd try googling it!
