Anyone else with family that isn't involved in their kids lives?

I never really thought it was a big deal raising a child with just me and my husband but the more moms I talk to the more I feel like my daughter is the only one without an extended family or with family that is involved in her life.

being a military family both my husband and my family are far away. even my son's father is far away from him. but we manage the occasional trip to my parents and the summer trip to his family. and of course my son sees his dad at holidays and summers. we have a few (by few i mean literally like 2 close friends) that we can go to and rely on to be there for us and vice versa. so hun, your not alone. I think i would go insane if we lived too close to my family and their advice...... or way of "raising" kids. I love them but difference of opinion stike disagreements with my side of the family. lol :)

I have to agree, it's nice not getting so much unwanted advice.

My son only has my father and aunt as grandparents. My MIL is a bitch and doesn't acknowledge his existance. My husband and her work for the same company, have for seven years now and most people do not know they are even related. My son was her second grandbaby, but first grandson. We live LITERALLY two minutes from her and she sees the other grandchildren that live up to an hour away three to four times weekly and sees our son MAYBE twice a year. There are no pictures of him anywhere in her home or at her desk, even though we have made sure to give her pictures and when people ask who she is, she says we are friends of the family. We think she denies him because he is Autistic, even though only mildly. He is an amazing child, yes I am a lil biased, but I am happy she isn't around. She is bad news. We rent our home from her and she still sees him only twice a year, what a winner huh?

Hi, I know exactly how you feel! We also live far away from our families and it is so hard to be alone at home with my son. It's almost like being stranded. You can't go anywhere or do anything and I'm scared that he won't be able to bond with the grandmothers etc. I just keep telling myself that sometimes it's a good thing to not have the family involved because everyone's opinionated and that can sometimes hurt and be frustrating. I just have faith that it will get better. I hope it helps to know you are not alone =)

how come there's no other family involved in her life? do you mean you live far away or they have all passed away?
