Some people say its ok and others say no way! Ive heard that if ur baby has good head control and doesnt have trouble pushing food to the back of their mouth then its ok... I was just curious as to what age most mothers begin feeding solids to their baby...

I started to feed my son solids when he was five months old, but I have loads of friends that started earlier, especially if the baby had been on formula. I think the earlier age is at 3.5 months - an apple, a banana.

At 4 months your baby's digestive system is not mature enough to digest solid food. One of the biggest signs of readiness to look for is that your baby is sitting up on her own. If you have to prop her up to feed her, she's not ready. Honestly, before 6 months you'll just be wasting money on food that has no benefit for her. Another benefit of wait until 6 months is that you can skip the jar food altogether. Jar food is expensive and full of sugar and preservatives and really just not necessary. Most babies will be happy to feed themselves one they're able to sit up on their own and bring food to their mouth. Letting your baby feed herself also leaves you free to feed yourself so you can eat at the same time! Some really good first foods are banana, avocado, sweet potato, and pretty much and veggie as long as you steam it to make it soft enough.
