At what age did you start giving your little one cows milk?

mine 4 months old and been on cows milk since 3 month it aint done any harm to him he not so hunery cow milk and food it how u feel abou them goin cows milk

all kids can stomach at different ages, we started weaning our son at 10 months, gave him half half breast milk and whole milk during the day but ust breast milk at night, by his 1st birthday he was on full whole milk. My husband too was fed cows milk from 1 month as his mums milk dried up and didnt have money for formula and he turned out fine

I have been weining my son on cows milk since he was about 10.5 months. I mix up his normal formula bottle but replace 50mls with normal milk for about a month then half n half the bottle then 3/4s cows milk & 50mls formula each change for about 4weeks then he'll go on straight cows milk form then on. He's just over a yr now & I'm still mixing them but soon he'll be on solid cows milk! I think when ever u r comfortable with doing it, & I wouldn't start personaly till at least 10months.

thanks everyone. i wouldnt just give her straight cows milk, i would start off by adding it into her bottle so 200ml of formula an 50ml of cows, that way she will still be gettin a fair bit of her formula

Ask your doctor as mine said it was ok to go ahead and give my oldest now 5 cows milk at 10 months old which is when he stopped breast feeding on his own we blame me giving him the sippy cup then. as he stopped nursing when he got used to the cup refused anything but the cup.

I switched my daughter around the same age and it was the worst thing ever she had severe bowel problems because of it and i was only giving it to her gradually so my suggestions to not do it i have worked in childcare for over 8 years now and have seen the same thing occur with alot of kids.

Wait until she's closer to a year for all the reasons already given. I was given the 'go ahead' from my pediatrician to introduce whole milk yogurt around 10 months. I watched carefully for bad reactions. At 11 months I gave her two ounces of whole milk a day and again watched. I slowly introduced it to her and she was fine.

With my second child, I'm going to wait. I plan to breastfeed for a little longer with this one so there is no need to introduce cow's milk.

The recommended age is 1 because experts believe their little tummies and digestive system just isn't ready for cows milk yet. I started slowly incorporating cows milk into my son's diet when he was about 11 months. I'd mix it into his rice cereal/oatmeal. Then once he got closer to 12 months, I started putting some into his formula. I would gradually increase how much milk instead of water I'd use in his formula until I was using just milk. Not too long after his 1st birthday, he was completely off formula and only on cows milk.



I say, like with anything, just use your judgement. In my opinion, though, I wouldn't completely get rid of the formula until he's a year (formula or breast milk should be their main source of nutrition until they are one) and slowly incorporate cows milk into his diet.

Doctors said 12 months for mine, I'd stick to that. It could hurt her tummy.

After a year. It's not worth the risk.

My twins started at a year and were fully weaned off breastmilk at 15 months.

My son probably had his first bit of cows milk around 12 months, but it wasn't a regular thing since he was still breastfed even more than he had solids.

12 months or older... my oldest was slowly weined off formula and on to milk after her 1st birthday so she was about 13 months when it was just cows milk and my youngest didnt get just cows milk til she was almost 16 months due to allergies...

we switched around 11-12 months... his iron was good so he didn't need anything like that special... they alsotell you to wait til 12 months because a lot of the time they don't like to give kids under 2 prescriptions and even worse if they are under 1 because of lactose intolerance thats why there is a recommended age limit of a lot of foods and stuff

You shouldn't replace their regular breast milk or formula with cows milk until they are 12 months old. This is the age recommended for very good reason. It's fine having a little on their cereal, etc, but really, it does NOT replace the nutrients from breastmilk or formula, and until they are 12 months old, the really are not generally getting enough solid foods for all of their nutrients.



Also, with formula and breastmilk, they are at least getting some iron. Cows milk can't give them this, so a child who is switched to cows milk too soon will often be found to have an iron deficiency. And even worse, there is a recent study (and I'm too lazy to look it up again) that suggests cows milk can actually DEPLETE the iron levels further, so in a child who does not yet have a diet in iron rich solids, it can be detrimental. So please rethink your idea of giving it before 12 months.



Yes, your partner is fine and healthy. I was also never killed or injured in a car crash because when I was born, mothers often carried their babies in their laps. But that doesn't mean it's a great idea to do that.
