At What Rate IS or DID Your Preemie Baby Do Things??

I was curious to know what rate other preemies were doing things... My son was born 6 weeks early and just turned 5 months (3 &1/2 Mo. Corrected Age) He currently can hold himself up in the sitting position for a minute or two in which he's been doing for the last 3 weeks. He can roll from tummy to back (doing for the last month and a half) and now working on the back to tummy. As of the this last week or so He's been trying very hard to hold his own bottle and when he has tummy time he gets his upper body up and trys sooooo hard to get moving (trying the last 2 & 1/2 Months). He also LOVES to stand up with me just holding his hands. PLUS he's now teething!!! He just seems to be doing soo much and I want to know if other Mommys have experienced or are experiencing such determination in their preemie!! Thanks much!!

All children are different but with the premies you go off the corrected age for their milestones. My twin boys are 13.5mths old (10.5mths corrected 13 weeks early). My boys can stand up and walk around their play pen but they hold on they also can say mum, dad, nan, hello and stinky lol. Caleb is starting to try and walk by himself. Jacob is a little slower due to he was on oxygen for so long. But when Caleb does something Jacob is just as determined to do the same thing as his brother. The boys doctor is so impressed with how well they are goin they are actually a month ahead of their milestones :D It doesnt matter how early they are each time you encourage your baby that gives them all the determination they need.

All kids are different. The general rule of thumb is that your premie would be at the same level as if they would have been born at their expected due date. So you would compare him to other 3 1/2 mos olds. However if your child is around many other kids then he would be more compelled to get up and go! My children were born ontime/late so I have no actual experience with this. But my 8mos old is crawling and starting to cruise when his brother started crawling @ 11mos and walking @ 14m. My neice who is 10mos is crawling backwards...so my 8 mos old is ahead of her, but she's an only child and stays at home or around adults mostly...plus she's a girl. Boys tend to be more active, and girls docile. If he's doing good then GREAT! I wouldn't worry...my 2nd born seems like he was born with a motor on his butt and he's been a go go go kinda kid from day 1! I'm sure I'll pay for that later! Good luck!
