My son is 4 months old and is teething. He has a very severe milk protein allergy. He is on prevacid and prescription formula. I have given him infant tylenol, cold damp wash cloth to chew on, and cheweys. Nothing is helping him, all he does is cry and scream. even when i feed him, he screams. he also was on a very gppd sleep pattern, now he fights me. if he does fall asleep its for 20 mins at time then hes up for hours. is this normal? any suggestions? please help me!!!

I tried the Baby Orajel; failed miserably. I then tried the teething tablets; lifesaver!!! Also, you can take your finger (make certain that your nail is short), and rub the little gums. You can offer a frozen waffle (keep an eye for thawing), frozen gummy rings...there's a ton of things you can use. Try googling for new ideas too. Good luck, and be patient. It will pass.

I`m currently going through the exact same thing. I`ve found the tylenol is working... As for the sleep... I grab the naps when I can.. I`ve found co-sleeping to be quite helpful.

i used origel too and i also have to say that keeping your cool will also help the baby because they can feel the tension on you wether you show it or not.

have you tried freezies???....all you have to do is cut the edges short enough so that they won't cut his gums but not too short for the freeze to leak.

one thing i did w/ my son was rub tylenol on his gums where he is teething. With the milk potein allergy my son had to go prevacid and zantiac for it would do any good with him. Sometimes when they have milk allergy there stomach just gets overly upset. the best formula that i have found is neocate. it's really expense but you can get you medical insurance to pay for it which is a plus if you can get the doctor to right a prescription for it

Also, as someone else said, watch for ear infections, they go hand in hand with milk allergies!

Try camillia. It's a homeopathic treatment. I found it at a natural foods store. It worked wonders for my son when he was teething. Helps soothe inflamation, pain, helps settle upset tummy, and helps calm babies so they sleep better.

I've read through some of your answers, and I can relate to your problems. Although my son never had such extreme problems teething, he had his share of pain and my share of sleepless nights up trying to sooth him. Teething tablets are a good option. While they do have LACTOSE in them, your son should be fine. My son ALSO has a milk PROTEIN allergy, but lactose is the sugar, caseins are the proteins. The upside to the teething tablets, if need be, you can give them every 10 minutes until your son falls asleep. Infants tylenol is actually not recommended for children under two, i'd opt for childrens motrin, because it is an anti-inflammatory, and will help sooth the inflamed gums. both my son and my nephew liked having one of those green soothie pacifiers rubbed on their gums. Also, there are several homeopathic options out there, Camilia is another, but you could ask at any health food store for advice. Teething tablets can usually be found at any grocery store, also.

I hope some of this is helpful, good luck!

when u are giving him the tylenol does him just swallow it ? Why doctor told me to wash ur hands really good put a drop or so of the tylenol on ur finger tip and gentle rub it on the gums line. It gives a more direct impact. I also found with my son this teething pacifier worked out great for us you can find both at walmart or meijers the first link is a softer one worked great for us and the 2nd one is a harder more of a little nub to teeth on. I hope this helps so.. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.d...

I too love the teething tablets! My son has the milk protein allergy too. he is on Alimentum and its a life saver!!! Its expensive but it works wonders! He has been on it for 7 months and we have been spit-up/throw up free for 5 1/2!!! The downside is that its $29 a can here and it smells NASTY... but I can over look those knowing that it works for us! God Bless!

My daughter also has a severe milk protein allergy. She is currently on Neocate and Prescription Zantac. I have found out through experience that Motrin and Night-time Orajel works well for her. Teething was really hard on her, she had been sleeping through the night and when she started teething she was up all the time. What your explaining sounds pretty normal, just watch out for fever over 102. Hope this helps.

As a mother of three I think that it is completely normal for you four month olds sleeping pattern to be changing. and as far as the teething try switching from tylenol to infant motrin that will help the pain better, also try taking a clean face cloth get it wet and then freeze it and let him chew on it.

Camilia by boiron is great for teething i swear by it. You can get it in the vitamin section at walmart. It is all natural no drugs so you should be ok to use it even with your little ones allergies.

Try freezing the washcloth and then give it to him to chew on, or wrap it around an ice cube and put a rubber band on to keep the ice in it.

I would make sure there is nothing else going on as well,,, Like an ear infection, which can cause pain while eating. The sucking motion that they do can irritate their ear while feeding! Just a thought I know it happened with my daughter. Ask the doctor though of course!!!!

Sorry misread your complaint - is teething the main concern?

Have you not heard of Panadol or Neurofen?

Panadol is for pain relief and Neurofen is an anti-inflammatory to decrease swelling (the cause of pain etc) they are safe to be used together as they do different things and contain different drugs.

Bonjela I found did not help as my daughter would just cry at the smell / taste and spit it out.

Also there's a brand you can find called Brauer they provide a natural relief by way of homeopathic remedies.

ALL of these are available over the counter.

if he is teething then that could account for the not sleeping. try a gel called sm33. its kinda like bongella but it actually works. just make sure you only use a tiny bit. i used it on both my babies teeth but my partner also uses it so its good but like i said only a little bit. and you can just get it over the counter at the chemist. just ask the pharmisist.

Motrin is definitly a life saver but your baby should be 6 months old before using motrin. I would just find cold things to chew on. They make teething rings with a gel in them that stay colder longer.. I don't know what else to tell you. Sorry I have a 10 month old that screams from 5 pm to his bedtime that may be as late as 9pm and nobody has any suggestions that have worked for me! Sorry but I would say orajel and ask your dr if u could try motrin. I know they say 6 months old but you never know!

Our physician told us to use Infant Motrin instead of Tylenol becausit is more effective and lasts longer. Worked like a charm for us.

I feel your pain. My four month old was like that for a few days and what helps him is frozen fruit in the baby mesh food/teether bags. It's honestly a God-send for me. At night I give him some orajel and let him bite on a wet/frozen wash cloth wrapped around my finger.

also...my husband's family is from switzerland and they have teething necklaces - the necklaces are made of amber and when worn, the amber reacts with skin to help ease teething - look it up online - there's more infor there. i'm a little scared to put the necklace around my son's neck so i've been putting it around his ankle and it seems to work!!

there is a book (if you can get a babysitter, even for a few hours) it's a very easy read and you only have to read the 1st half of it... it's called Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child, and it discusses all sorts of different infant/toddler/child sleep patterns/behaviors (protesting sleep, not sleeping through the night, night terrors, afraid of the dark etc) and it gives suggestions on how to deal and ways to fix the problems! the author is dr. marc weissbluth and you can find the book on BN.com for only like 2 bucks.. arrives in 2-3 business days =) it saved us

I have been using tylenol which helps to an extent. And have used the teething biscuts (not sure your son would be ready for those) I am def going to get the disposable tablets!

for the teething you may try to find a burdock root necklace or make one if you know what burdock looks like you can dig up the root and cut it into beads 9 i think and string it into a necklace then let it dry for at least 2 weeks then let ur baby wear it make sure its not tied too tight or too loose for safety reasons..my family has always used them and i used them on my daughter worked like a charm! Good luck ill be praying for yall!
