my 1 year old daughter was diagnosed a few months ago but we have never known anyone with the condition, especially babies. there are so many things you shouldn't do or eat but i don't know what is myth and what is fact. so many sites out there condradict eachother and are all written in medical jargon!! i'd love to know stories of other parents going through the same things as us, it is hard to know what is a normal day sometimes!!

I was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of 4. In some cases, like mine, it shows up for no apparent reason, no head trauma, no family history, etc. Fortunately, there are also cases where children grow out of it, like me. I had my last seizure at the age of 15 (I am currently 23). While I don't know of any dietary restrictions for epilepsy (I never had any) there are some activity restrictions your daughter will have. She should not play soccer or be involved in an activity where she will take hits to the head. You will want to keep her away from strobe lights or anything that flashes too much since this can induce a seizure. Some video games and cartoons can do this so you will want to be careful and supervise her when she starts watching TV and such. Also you will want to make sure she is getting enough sleep since sleep deprivation can also bring on seizures. Depending on what medication she is put on there can be some odd little side effects. When I was on Zarontin as a young child it made me more prone to hiccups. Other medications can also act as blood thinners and affect appetite.
I hope this helps. Epilepsy will require some adjustments to accommodate whatever restrictions she has/will have, but otherwise normal will be what is normal for you.
