Baby Bed Harness any comments ?

I am 62 years old. My parents kept me in a crib with a harness until I was 3 years old. I still remember the frustration of being bound and the joy of lying unfettered on my new twin sized bed. Recently I found a picture of myself harnessed in my crib at about 2 years of age. I looked as unhappy as I remember. My children and grandchildren have traveled extensively and slept safely without harnesses. I just can't imagine anyone subjecting their children to one.

Well, the safety bed belt is finally on ebay under the description: "BABY DREAMS -Safety bed belt for babies" I bought it 2 weeks ago. And it´s great ! no more travel crib need it. The baby can move even sit down in the bed totally safe, this is for small babies that start rolling over It was a good deal ! unfortunaly I bought my travel crib 2 years ago....waist of money ! this thing was 39.99 and my kid sleeps better on a bed, than on a travel crib. Anyway..good stuff. Just to let you know.

I've never actually heard of one or seen one. The closest thing I can think of are the attachable/detachable bedrail sides. They can run up to the length of a US twin size bed. My son doesn't move much while he sleeps, so we never considered one when he moved him to his "big boy" bed.

I used one for my son and I loved it ... and so did he! As for getting out of bed in an emergency, by the time he was old enough to get out of bed on his own, he could easily unsnap the harness. Before that, he was too young to get out of bed in an emergency and most babies that age would have been in a crib they couldn't get out of on their own either.

My babies never slept in a crib as we are co-sleeping family. When they transitioned to heir own bed (around 18 months or so) it was a mattress on the floor so no worries about them falling off the bed. When we travel we just co-sleep so once again no worries of them rolling out of bed. That's just us though.

Thanks Terra, but this is for smaller babies, babies that start to rolling over, in case of an emergency you have to get the baby out of the crib anyway, they dont walk yet. My point is rails are too big to carry them around , the belt is easy to travel with, I travel a lot because of my husband job, and the belt was the best thing for me, my babies sleep better on a bed, than on a travel crib, which by the way in hotels use to be filthy and old. But that has been my experience with the safety bed belt. Thanks so much for posting !

Have you considered just getting a bed rail for the bed? If you're only worried about your child falling out then that is exactly what the rails are designed to do. It also means that in case of an emergency (fire, tornado, etc.) your child will be able to get out of bed and you or a rescue person won't have to worry about getting your child out of a harness.

A friend told me about these just recently. I had never heard of them before. I think she said she used to use one for her daughter when they travelled? I haven't even seen them, so will have to have a look before I can really say, but she did say it's not like "tying" them to the bed at all.

OMG I have one !!! Is the greatest thing ever !, I have twins, one of them fell out from bed, I turned for 1 minute and my Matt was on the floor, the worst moment of my life !. After this situation my mother in law brought me one of those, she´s mexican and I think its pretty popular over there. My kids use it until they were almost 3. You are right they can move while sleeping is just a precaution when you dont have a crib around and they are in bed. I use to put pillows around them, believe me didnt work. We went to Disneyworld, no more portable cots, they sleep better in bed. I already ask the people in Mexico they said, they will sell the harness on ebay soon, I ask if they can send me one (for a babyshower gift) and they said I can look on ebay in a couple of weeks, so I´ll let you know... it´s about $30 usd, this is the web page www.suenabebe.com dont understand a word but you can see the pictures and send them messages, They write you back in english. !

Never heard of it, but I would never tie/harness my child in to bed. I would be way too nervous about a freak accident happening.
