Crystal I'm sorry that you mistook my curiosity for attitude. It now makes since why you've started solids as early as you have. I hope that your little one is doing well and the reflux has subsided :) Good luck and best wishes!

I had started my son on rice cereal when he was around the same age as your baby, but then the doctor told me to stop because he was gaining weight too quickly. He wasn't active enough to burn off all the calories that he was getting through cereal. Since your little one has reflux, though, if that's what they recommended, then I would stick with it. My son is now a little over four months old and he just had his doctor appointment yesterday and I was given the go-ahead to start rice cereal and baby foods. I would just say to monitor it carefully since your son sounds like he has a pretty sensitive tummy.

i appreciate everyone giving me their feed back!!!! :-) my ped first told me to right around his 3 month date to start giving him cereal in a bowl the first time just to make sure he would take it then start giving it to him in a bottle if he liked it bc of reflux issues he started getting. they also said bc i was allergic to EVERYTHING even milk formula and soy ( my baby is on soy) and my husband wasnt allergic to ne thing to give him 2 teaspoons of one type of baby food a day for a week and c if he breaks out in a rash. if he doesnt then hes good on that food and the next week try him out on another food. they dont want him just getting full off the baby food bc of it not having enough good stuff like the formula. :-) i was just curious when other moms started their baby out on food/cereal. my ped also told me that we're the only culture that usually starts their babies off on food later on between 4-6 months. most cultures start their babies off on cereal/food at 8 weeks or right away even. thanx every1 for their input! it was great! :-)

i started him on the baby cereal and food bc my Ped told me to since he had reflux issues, September Wilson. y do u have an attitude about something like that? pretty mature.... my son will be 3 months in a couple days and they said that it would help with his reflux and keep it down longer bc it's thicker and will help him gain weight like he should.

All of my kids started on baby food between 4 and 6 months, and 2 of the 3 were started on rice cereal in their bottles much younger as a thickener since they had severe reflux. While I respect your decision, as you know your child better than I do, I do feel the need to caution you as you proceed with the actual baby food. Formula or breast milk is recommended as a primary source of nutrition because it is more nutrient and calorie dense than the 'simple' starter baby foods. The jar stuff may fill baby up, but in that case, you aren't getting as much nutritional bang for your buck while baby is growing swiftly and could use the extra calories, and if he's eating food he's probably taking in less milk. Baby food is harder on baby's tummy, too, which is something else to consider.

Introducing solids can also cause allergies later on in life. Their bodies just aren't ready for it yet. He's only 8 weeks new! Nothing but milk should be given until at least 4 months old, even then some just aren't ready. Sleeping through the night, isn't as important as giving your baby what he needs at the right stage. IMO

Can I ask why? We started our son on solids at 6 months (which I homemade) why rush it? If our son seemed hungry I would just nurse him more! If he woke in the middle of the night I would comfort him. I'm not so sure that's something you should be proud of IMO! Did you know that starting solids early could actually hurt your baby or did you not consider that? I’m just curious….

I started my son on cereal in bottles at 2 months, cereal on a spoon at 3 months, and baby food at 3 1/2 months. Now he's 7 1/2 months and on stage 2 foods, I've been trying to introduce stage 3 and table foods but he's not quite ready.

our pediatrician told me not to start my little guy on it until he's 4 months old, so I'll probably start it around then - I had intended to keep him solely on breastmilk for 6 months, but I really could use a full nights sleep lol.
