blended family

my fiance and i have a son together who will be 1 on the 7th and my fiance also has a 3 year old daughter who has been in my life the past 2 years (since i was 21) i always thought it would be hard to be a "motherly figure" at that age but i love her to death. ever since our son was born their dad has been in afghanistan which makes our situation a little harder because i feel like our son hasnt had much time to bond with his sister and vice versa. in our situation tho, her mother isnt as supportive of our own little family (althoguh shes also expecting this october) i see his daughter about once a month for a weekend and i do my very best to make fun places, weather it be a park or a picnic, playdates ect. we always do something where the 3 of us get out of the house and have a good time. she is always asking to come visiting now and im actually getting more time with her than i was when my fiance first left 10 months ago!



i would certainly suggest planning outings together! its a great way to have some fun, and kids love fun!

We're a true blended family: he has a 8yr old daughter (my step-daughter) who lives with her mom. I have my 10month old daughter (will be 1 Oct. 6) who lives with us (her dad passed away). We are expecting our very first together Jan. 29. I'll be 21 Sept. 29 and he will be 32 Oct. 23.
I will do special things with my step-daughter. Take her out special places and when she comes over I always make sure she if fully included in everything we do. I also include her in taking care of her little sister (which she loves doing).
It's a little weird for me having her around since she is 8 but I love her to death. And I always just take a few deep breaths if I'm feeling overwhelmed and remind myself I am blessed to have her in my life. If you need to talk message me on here or get a hold of me via facebook somehow. I went through what you are feeling when I first started dating my husband.

My son is 3 and is having a hard time accepting my boyfriend (who has lived with us for 9 months now). We just dont let it bother us, we keeping doing everything the same. My boyfriend has started spending a little more one on one time with him going out for breakfast, going for rides in the car, bringing him in when we stop at the store to grab something. It seems to be working.

yes we talk a fair bit bout it cuz im finding it so difficult, i try my best to bond with my step son but find i cant as my partners mother takes over alot like picks him up drops him off, wants to do everything with him and my partner doesn know how to say no to her that we need to make our own little family here he cant even bond with his little brother much, and when he is fianally with us he just does everything with his dad wont listen to me or talk to me, it seems to be getting worse not better im doing everything in my power to bond but im not getting anywhere....

Have you tried talking to your fiance?? Maybe you should try spending one on one time with his son and bond with him. Just because he isnt your blood doesnt mean you can't have a motherly connection to him. Try to do things with him that he likes even if it means playing with toy cars or little army guy toys, lol. Even reading to him at night before he goes to bed.

That would be my advice.... try bonding with your step son. My finace is like a father to my daughter, and thats bcause he sees her has his child too and he spends alot of time with her.
