I Just wanted to ask if anyone is breast feeding and solid feeding on here? If so - can you give me some examples of feeding schedules? Like what comes first breast or solids? My daughter is 6 months and a couple of weeks - she is not and has never been a big eater. Not going to start weaning until January after we fly in from the holidays so I don't want her to wean her self off the boob? Any help or ideas?

Thanks

I agree with your theory Amber, although it was explained to me that until they are 1 year old, the goodness in the milk whether it be breast or formula is what they need as their bodies don't start to absorb the nutrients (of the food) until then. I say, go with your gut and speak to your doctor or child health nurse for their advice. Good luck :)

Personally, I would feed your daughter her solid foods first. She knows she likes brestmilk and can eat that until she is full and falls asleep. If you feed her solid food first she will eat until she is full and then you can finish with breast milk. she wont be drinking as much because her little tummy is already full with good solid baby food. This will help you wean her off alot faster and reduce you milk quick. Which makes it's so much easier for you in the end, because you won't be so engorged with milk. And that hurts like no other!

Hi there, I was told by the child health nurse that at 6 months they should have their bottle/breast first then food after that as the solids are to be introduced slowly. I gave my boy his bottle first, as I couldn't breastfeed past 5 weeks, but after only a few weeks he was happy eating solids more and it cut down on his bottles per day. I would suggest you consider weaning your daughter before the xmas break and/or express as much as you can so you all enjoy the holidays. I found once I went from breast to bottle, both expressed and formula, that we had so much more freedom to go shopping and leave the house as I didn't have to find a quiet area or somewhere to feed him. Also after a couple of months he could hold his bottle himself which made it even easier. Hope that helps :)
