If I warm up breastmilk that I refridgerated last night and my son refuses it what can I do with it?? How long can it be left out after being warmed? I know he will wake up to eat about midnight...which will be about 3 hours after I warmed the refridgerated breastmilk, gosh I just dont want to see this go down the drain!

Breastmilk don't contaminate the way that formula does. You can leave it at room temperature for 6-8hrs after your son started the bottle, and probably longer if it is refridgerated. You're only supposed to re-heat it once though, because the more you heat it, the more you damage the antibodies in it. I sometimes put bottles back in the fridge if my son didn't finish, and would give them at the next feeding - never had a problem.

breastmilk should only be kept refridgerated for no more than 8 hours. However, i discarded every bottle (breast or formula) if he already had a drink from the bottle as i thought it would "spoil" very quickly due to the saliva coming into contact with the milk.

But that's how i did it...may not be true or correct, but i just dint wana take any chances...

If you son doesn't drink it, you can re-refrigerate it one time after warming it up. If it's only going to be re-refrigerated for 3 hours and then re-heated, you will be fine. I have done this several times. Also, try letting someone else feed him the breastmilk from the bottle. Somestimes, they won't drink from a bottle from us b/c we smell like milk...as my mom always says...we are the "milk cow"...LOL! Hope this helps!! Good Luck :o)
