Can dogs sense pregnancy?

Before I found out I was pregnant, my dogs and my cats could not sit close enough to me. I would have the dog with her head on my lap, the cats would lay on any spot they could find close enough to me. I was trapped. I really thought my animals were not feeling well. They get like that when they are sick. But I found out about a week later that I was about a month pregnant!

yes they most definitely can, all 3 of mine would lay near me and follow me everywhere when I was pregnant. While walking them one day I had just put 2 of the 3 back inside because they were done and re-walked the last one so she would go to the bathroom, well while walking back inside up my steps I fell and my dog who was at my side walking ran in front of me and put herself so that my belly landed on her rather than the steps, it was like she knew to protect that baby from harm even with never yet meeting her! Now today my daughter is 18 months old and while all 3 like her(well my boy is a pain sometimes but hes always been that way with everyone but me) the one that put herself under my belly is her BEST friend! They are like inseparable and always together, I believe that they formed a bond that day when I fell.

I really think that a dog can sence pregnancy. I know when I was Preg.my mom's dogs were like that too.

So I'm reading this and get a punch in the gut feeling. We got a puppy, Max, about 5 weeks ago and he started acting all possesive of me. My sons are young and love Max very hard and when he's sick of them he runs to me to get a break. I thought he was taking his breaks to an extreme, then he started nipping my husband when he tried to kiss or hug me, when I'm cooking dinner Max literally sits on my feet. After reading this today I packed the kids in the car and got a test and I'm pregnant!

Most animals can. I use to work at a park where you could swim with dolphins. There was a trainer that was pregnant and didn't know it. Every time she got in the water the dolphins were very protective of her, and they kept swimming circles around her (they're way of protecting). We all joked around that she might be pregnant, but she swore up and down that she wasn't. 3 weeks later she came in and sure enough she was. It was the coolest thing to see how the animal kingdom interacted with her.

Each time I was pregnant for my boys. My dog and my mom's dog would be at my side every minute I was home or visiting. It drove me crazy sometimes.

im due in 2 weeks to have my baby and today my cats seem to want to be where i am if im inside they will meow untill they are let in but if im outside they will stay outside and lay around near me and my female cat who is desexed seems very affectionate for a change to

Can dogs sense pregnancy? My Staffie knew... She was really protective and followed me arround EVERYWHERE - even to the toilet. Then I did a test and I was preg! I was only 2 weeks preg and had no simptoms yet. Even through my preg she was different. She used to jump on my lap (sometimes my breath-out), but when I was pregnant she would jump on the couch and put her head on my tummy... like listening to the baby. It was always so cute!

My dog followed me everywhere when I was pregnant... They have a VERY keen sense of smell, so it might be that you are pregnant. My dog knew before I eventhought to take a test... She could smell my hormones, I'm sure. And now, baby is here, and she is lactating! I don't know if it is because she went through her heat and is having a "false pregnancy" or if it is because she can sense my hormones... Who knows?

Animals have an inteligence of their own. They can tell when a storm is comming, when someone is hurt/sick, and yes when someone is pregnant. If you are not pregnant than you should search for other possible issues because there is definantly something going on with you.

Yes! Animals in general can detect it if you want my opinion/ When I fell preggers 1st time my cat got over-protective on me 2 weeks before I found out. When I got pregnant the 2nd time it was my pair of ratties that were acting strange round me, much more affectionate than usual! lol

When i fell pregnant with my 2nd, we had a puppy at the time,and all of a sudden everytime i knelt down to play with my eldest,or sit on the sofa she would always sit on my lap and just look at me! I had no idea why,untill i found out i was pregnant! We believe she knew before we did. Dogs are very intelligent animals and have a very good '6th' sense that humans dont understand.

I believe they can I have seen it plenty of times in my training classes. Even other owners dogs seem more affectionate towards an excepting woman in the room. I had a lady that had missed one of our weeks of training and the next week when she came back when it was play time all the dogs just wanted to stick by her. I asked her after class if she was pregnant. She looked at me like I was crazy. I told her the way the dogs were acting towards her seemed as if so. She called me a couple of days later and told me the dogs where right she had just gotten back from the obgyn and was about 2 weeks along.

My sisters dog was acting wierd around me the day before I went into labour... Its like she knew the baby was on his way out. I'm sure they could probably sence when you are just pregnant too.

im a dog groomer, and yes they can. lol. to them you "smell" different. dogs can smell hormones and changes in your hormones. thats how they "sense" fear and stuff like that. they are very preceptive and they notice things like that.
