Can fever cause dehydration?

My son (will be 3 yrs in April) has had a high fever all day, between 103 and 105. Acetaphetamine and Ibuprofen are working to take it down. His eyes are glassy and he's got dark circles around them. He has taken 3 1 1/2 hour naps today when he normally takes one. He begged me to put him to bed. He has only been off the couch for 30 min today.
I am a little concerned about dehydration. He hasn't had anything to drink since around 4p and he is usually constantly drinking. He has said he's thirsty since and asked for drink, but won't drink it. His mouth, lips and skin are dry.
Any thoughts/suggestions?

You can buy electrolyte icy poles in Australia. I would definitely get some electrolyte drink and even syringe it into his mouth if he refuses to drink. Or as the others suggested give him anything he wants to drink without caffeine. I would be taking him to the doctor or the hospital if you cannot get him to take some fluids soon and you feel he is dehydrated.

Hope he feels better soon

Electrolyte drink is better for dehydration than plain water because when they are dehydrated they loose electrolytes, so it's important to replace them.

Watch for the glazed eyes... that can mean he's delirious... which is extremely dangerous. As the others have said give him anything (without caffine) at this point to get him hydrated. Also try a cool bath, that will not only help the fever but the dehydration as well.

If there is any liquid that he WILL drink then give it too him. Anything is better than nothing. My daughter likes popsicles when she's not feeling to well. If he will eat soup that can help fight off dehydration too. Just keep an eye on how much he is peeing. That's a sign of hydration level.

flavored pedialyte sometimes goes over well with kids, n has lots of electrolytes! or even popsicles! but i think the best thing would be water, if he'll take it! my sons dr told me if my 1 yr old stops peeing for 10 hours, to call the er. he may be dehydrated. hope this helps! good luck!
