my doctor always told me that teething never comes with a fever, and if there is a fever then there is something else wrong. i do believe this is true...but only to a point. i think teething aggrivates everything else in that area. with the gums being inflammed and sore and all the extra dribbling and mouthing of things there's extra bacteria there and can lead to head colds, ear infections, sore throats, and tonsilitis and these do bring a fever. so while the teething doesn't directly cause the fever it is the underlynig cause (I think).

for my sons first2 teeth on bottom his temp went up and had to go on antibiotics for an ear infection, and for his top 2 teeth he got tonsilitis and ended up in hospital after a fibrile seizure. thank goodness he has 2 more teeth now and was had just a few restlesss nights and some nasty nappies for those.

I actually saw a book recently that discussed this. There's an article about it here:

Apparently, teething does not cause fevers... but I'm not quite convinced, to be honest!

I guess it can by what the other women are saying. With my 2 boys they didn't get fever while teething, just cranky and really likes to chew on stuff , the chewing of things helps alot for my boys that is. Every baby is different. Usually if a baby has a fever it is because of an illness, (cold, ear infection...)

yes! the only time my son ever got fevers were from teething or ear infections. For teething it was always like 101 or above!
