Hi i have a friend who asked me if you can get pregnant 1 week before your period and for first time i could not answer it as it never happened with me. Can you get pregnant right before your period?

And how long after intercourse can she take a pregnancy test? As she is due today and its only 5 days after intercourse

She needs to read the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility. Actually all women should read it so that they understand how their bodies work.

We all ovulate at different times.

There is a chance she could be pregnant, but 5 days after intercourse there is no way the test would pick it up.

if u ovulate a week before your period, which i do, you can get pregnant a week before your period. but its highly unlikely to get pregnant unless you are ovulating. its better to take a pregnancy test if you miss your period and not before, because it will be more accurate...the day your period dont show when your suppose to get it should be an accurate result, depending on the type of test. but when its that early on its a good idea to take two tests to be sure.

They say to wait 10 days after intercourse to get a possible positive test. Many women won't test positive until closer to the 14 day mark (when most women expect there period).

How many days before your period you can get pregnant varys for each women. For me it's 13 days before I expect my period, and the average for most women is 14 days.

If she's due today and she's late it might just be because she ovulated late, but if she's due today she can take a test, however since it's only been 5 days since intercourse I would suggest waiting a 5 days at least before taking a test. Either way if she doesn't get her period today she just ovulated late this cycle.

I took a cheap test a week before my period was even supposed to happen and showed positive I was 2 weeks pregnant at the time.
Yes you can get pregnant at any time even on your period, at least that's what the doctors have told me. They also said sperm can live up to 3 days after sex, I don't know it didn't make sense to me but that's how they put it to my husband and I when we had our last child.

Not likely but it does depend on her cycle date and when she ovulates. Most women who have normal 28 day cycles ovulate right in the middle (between days 12-14). It is pretty unlikely that she would be able to conceive a week before her missed period no matter how long her cycle is because that would be a very short luteal phase (the time from ovulation to beginning of next cycle) and likely not enough time for a fertilized egg to implant before the uterine lining is shed.

You can test the day your missed period is due (actually some test you can test up to 5 days before) so she can test today and likely the results she gets will be accurate.

yeah, it's possible to get pregnant, and they say it's possible to get a positive result within 3 weeks. it depends on which test she uses, and how much of the pregnancy hormone she would have in her system-mine was very high with the last preg so there was no doubt. in anyone's mind. lower levels will take longer to show up in a test. if there's any doubt, she can go to the health clinic and be tested, also, by the professionals (i didn't believe 3 preg tests...), but it probably won't show up this quick......will have to do the waiting game!

Yes you can get pregnant a week before your period! Even two weeks! In fact, I'm pretty sure that pregnancy is most possible 14 days before your period is expected. Depending on your age, you can be fertile any time of the month. Some women ovulate several times per month and pop out more than one egg at a time, especially in your early to mid twenties!

Someone can get pregnant at anytime during their cycle, even if they have intercourse during their periods. So yes, you can get pregnant right before your period. And the test should say how long to wait, some are for late and some can detect early.

It's a possibility to get pregnant right before your period but do a test if period is late when the next 2 periods are expected! :)

I wouldn't even bother taking a pregnancy test unless i was a week late. I'm pretty accurate myself... but stress can cause you to have a late period too and the more she adds to that stress the later her period may be. You can get pregnant at anytime (even when u are on your period).. trust me... this is coming from a woman who get pregnant with twins on birth control!
