I have been on antiobitics on and off for over 3 weeks. my husband sex 2 times before i should ovulate and 1 time while i would be ovulating. What are the odds that we could get pregnant?

a few days after our last intimate time i have had streaks of blood when i wiped and then it turned into a light period look pinkish red and I am not to start for over a week. Could this be implantation bleeding, or just break though bleeding from being on the pill and antibotics? I am at first didnt want to get pregnant but now i love the idea and afraid i am not. Thanks for your help.

It really just depends. I know of people who have gotten pregnant on birth control. They were taking the pill AND using condoms to be 100% sure that they wouldn't get pregnant and the one time they didn't use a condom they found out that they were pregnant. I'm sure other medications might interfere with the reliability of the pill. If you are concerned at all that you might be pregnant, I would stop taking your birth control and see a doctor. Although it may be too soon to tell, they could take a blood test and see right away.

It is how my son came to be! I wasn't told that it messed with the birth control until after I'd already conceived. He is the biggest blessing of my life but yeah... we were a little shocked.

Yes you can! That's how I got pregnant with my first child. There is something in the antibiotics that cancels the birth control out. Just use other protection while you are on the antibiotics.

First of all it is possible to get pregnant while on the birth control pill. And secondly, certain antibiotics do interact with the birth control pill to make it less effective.

Yes you can get pregnant while on the pill and taking antibiotics this is how i became pregnant with my daughter, the doctor didn't tell me the pill won't work if you are taking antibiotics, the doctor should tell everyone when they give them antibiotics.

Yes. the antibiotics have a reaction with the birth control which makes your birth control ineffective.

it is possible yes. Even without antibiotics people can become pregnant while on BC. The bleeding could be that the antibiotic is kicking the BC out of your system and you are getting your period but if you have been on antibiotics off and on for 3 weeks i would personally stop my BC and start up with my first cycle after i'm done the antibiotics. Ask your health care provider or your pharmacist for your odds on your specific type of BC. They should have told you to use another form of BC while on antibiotics and i'm surprised if they didn't. If you wish to fall pregnant maybe you should sit with your husband and discuss going off BC and see what happens. If you suspect you are pregnant stop your BC and wait a few days and take a test. BC should not be taken if you are suspected of being pregnant or may become pregnant...gosh i sound like a commercial lol.
Good luck :)

Thanks to everyone who gave me the advice...i guess i worried my question wrong. I knew going on the antibotics it would be less effective but forgot since my hubby is gone during the week working and home on weekends...jsut kind of slipped our mines. I was trying ot figure out what the bleeding/discharge was ....breakthrough bleeding or implantation bleeding. Thanks again!!!

Well you can get pregnant on the pill anytime and yes some medicines can cause your birthcontrol not to be effective so your chances of being pregnant are higher.if you want to get pregnant stop birth control and talk to your doctor.P.S I WAS ON THE PILL AND GOT PREGNANT AND I WAS NOT TAKING ANY OTHER MEDICINE SO ITS NOT ALWAYS EFFECTIVE.ONCE YOUR PERIOD IS LATE THEN TAKE A TEST.

Antibotics cancel out your birth control. I know a few babies that were pleasent surprises this way. Take a test when you can but be aware that could still be wrong. I took about 6 tests and did not come up positive until I was 6 weeks.

yes you can. there are certain meds that void out your birthcontrol pills so be careful if you are on meds i suggest using a condom untill you are done taking them for atleast 1 month after because you have to give the BC time to get back in your system and effective just like in the begining when you started taking them

You can't predict when you would "ovulate" when on the pill, so it makes it very hard to calculate dates - if the pill is effective you shouldn't ovulate, by my understanding. Though I think one pill type works more on making it difficult for an embryo to implant... But yes, you can fall pregnant on the pill - even if you are not taking antibiotics. It isn't 100% effective, and I personally know 7 children conceived while on the pill. Of those, one was while the mum was on antibiotics, and I think if you read the instructions in the pack it would recommend additional contraception be used for the whole cycle while you are on antibiotics. Though my GP did tell me only some interact.

All very complicated - but short answer is it could be both of the options you've suggested - get yourself checked out, coz if you are pregnant you'll want to go off the meds ASAP.

Good luck!

yes u can get pregnant anti biotics completely cancel out the pill so i would do a test just 2 be sure .......and with both my pregnancies i did test and came up positive wen i was only 2weeks pregnant soo it really depends on ur body but if u have blood test u should be able 2 have it done now and have it be accurate

when on the pill and if you happen to take antibotics then it is suggested to use a back up birth control because the antibotics can cause the pill to be negated. If you are worried about getting pregnant then use back up birth control or jsut dont have sex... if you are worried about being pregnant then i would call your doctor and talk to her about it.

Antibiotics reverse the effect of the birth control pill. Meaning, it's just like not taking it at all. So if you're going to have sex while you're on the meds you should wrap it up!

I got pregnant when I was on antibiotics for a UTI infection. The pill cancels out the birth control and makes it so you virtually aren't taking any. I would definitely use a back up form of contraception while you are taking antibiotics. My husband and I LOVE our little Mia Bia though so we don't mind... but we now know for future reference that it is possible! :D hahaha!

yes medications can counteract birth control... not just antibiotics. i was taking anxiety meds that had the birth control inaffectiveness warning... and 13 days later i got pregnant. now i have a wonderful 4 year old boy.

While you're on the pill, or any birth control they tell you that antibiotics interfere with the efficacy of the pill. So there is a chance.

And I know how you feel about being afraid you're not pregnant. When I first thought I was I was scared sh*tless. But I thought I'd really like to be a mom, and kept hoping that I was. Every time I went to the bathroom I was afraid I would have my period.

But if you don't want to get pregnant, make sure you use a condom while you're on the antibiotics.

Always use back up protection when on antibiotics, since many of them decrease the effectiveness of birth control. You can always ask your doc when they prescribe something for you if it will affect your bc.

It is very possible. Last month I had to go to the dentist and I had an infected tooth, so he put me on antibiotics. I haven't had a period since then..Jan or Feb. And I am on Yaz. Honestly I am afraid to find out. We have 2 kids...my youngest just turned 1 last week, and we really don't want anymore. It is very possible though...sometimes they even put stickers on the prescription bottle that say it "decreases the effectiveness of birth control."

yes...you can get pregnant while taking antibiotics when on BC. Im suprised ur dr didnt warn you. Some medications will make ur birth control go inactive and an antibiotic is one of those medications. sorry.

I got pregnant while taking antibiotics. The doctors should have told you that when they prescribed it or the pharmacist. As for the pregnancy test it's always a toss up. Some women can take them before their missed period and get a positive test. Others have to wait weeks. I know from personal experience that I normally cant test positive if I'm pregnant till 2-3 weeks after my missed period. It always drives me crazy too. But lie clock work every time I've been pregnant if I am 2 weeks late the test just confirms what I already know. Good luck!

I've heard that antibiotics can lower the effectiveness of the b.c. I would suggest that if you don't want to get preggo then use condoms and if you do want to get preggo....get off the pill.

It's VERY common to get pregnant while on the pill and antibiotics. The antibiotics pretty much cancel out the birth control.

Antibiotics make birth controll inaffective... Your doc usually tells you that when he prescribes your antibiotics.

Yes you can, and I would talk to your doctor about the possibility immediately - because you should not be taking birth control pills while you are pregnant.

Yes you can on both. If you forget to take the stupid birth control pills, you can get pregnant and certain antibiotics mess up birth control pills making it very likely.

yes this is how I got pregnant with both of my children. It is very fusterating cuz I am taking it regularly and it still didnt work because of the antibotics. I was taking the patch and it effects the whole week not just when you stop taking the antibotics. I would take a pregnacy test to find out.

Yes you can. You need to use backup birth control while taking antibiotics, then continue the backup birth control for one week after you finish taking them.

yup you sure can so i would use a back up method! but i never did! i was on the pill for 7yrs. and the only time i got pregnant was when i came off to have my son. so theres always that chance so they say?

You should be able to test on the 9th of march other wise test a few days after your missed one... With my kids i had to test 6 times.. Never came up pos. till i was a month or better along... hope this helps.. Otherwise see your doctor for blood test...

Its VERY likely. Antibiotics cause the birth control pills to not function correctly making it like you're virtually not on birth control
