Hi Joanne.

I know this is no wives tale and I think that avoiding spas is to do with the sanitary issues that come with using a public spa with the heating and the bacteria that makes its home in spas. Also the jets are usually quite intense which isnt good for pregnant women (also certain types of massage is not suitable for pregnant women either...... it goes hand in hand really).  Its been a while since I was pregnant but I clearly remember being told by my doctor and midwife not to use them.

Hope I could help!

Meg :)

Can I use it didn't feel uncomfortable in it nor was it hot! More like a heated pool
And the jets Arnt full on harsh like the ones you get in a proper spa ?

You can get a massage at any point during your pregancy, unless you are high risk, You don't want to have any body treatment that would raise your body temperature. Facials are fine as long as you are comfortable on your back, just no chemical peels.

Hi Joanne... So I went my whole pregnancy... once a month to get a massage.  I went to a place where they did "pregnancy massage", and they had their massues who were trained to do a "pregnancy massage".  It was wonderfull, and not at all harmful to me, or the baby!  I also went and had pedicures every other month.  It was so nice. I have been told that the chemicals, and fumes from the manicures are not good for you when you are pregnant, but they also are not good for you normaly either way, so I really do not think it is going to hurt you or you baby to much unless you are there every day, for hours upon hours at a time!  The place I went to for pedicures they had a seperate area from the manicures so I really did not smell, or take in the fumes.  I say go for it... your pregnant, tired, sore... you deserve it!  Also... just follow your instincts, if you don't feel comfortable, don't do it, if you feel its ok... go for it.

yes its true!!! your body heats up causing your baby to heat up. you are not aloud to let your body get over 100.1 degrees while pregnant. i can say i did go into a hot tub while i was preg and i sat on the very top step while everyone else was all the way in and when i felt too hot i got out. it is risky because you could be harming your baby. i wouldnt do it..

I know everyone has said not to go in the hot tub, but I know I had this same question when I was about 4 months prego so I looked up some articles online that said if you do go in the hot tub not to stay in more than 10 mins which even when you're not prego you should never stay in a hot tub more than 20 mins b/c of the high temp. I went in for 10 mins got out and then just kept my feet in the water. My daughter is a healthy 15-month-old ,so I don't know it's your choice I suppose.

Hiya, Congratulations! you can get some nice massages, most places have pregnancy packages. But no hot stone massages - apparently its linked with miscarraige so steer clear! Swimming is great but no jaccuzzi or steam room/sauna. The jets in the jaccuzzi irritate the baby and the other two can cause you to get light headed. I had a lovely facial, leg massage and face and neck massage when i was about three/four months gone, felt brilliant after and very pampered! oh and make sure you get a pedicure! Have fun!

hot tubs are no. i know when i was pregnant i'd get sick if i took a warm shower. but other things like pedicure or manicure or ok. i've been told that fake nails are no goes because of the chemicals they use to put them on. i got a massage when i was pregnant and frankly it was a waste of my money! it felt good but the areas that hurt like your ankles wrists and lower back are also trigger points to put you into labor. just keep that in mind

What Monica said. It could cause serious harm to your growing baby. The temp is way to high in a hot tub and even if you don't get sick your amniotic fluid takes a lot longer to cool down and boiled baby is the result. Kinda gross but it is that serious of thing.

[deleted account]

If your talking about a hot tub no it is not okay. It is to hot and can literally cook your baby. It can also make you sick when you get to hot.
