I would say no. He will come when he is ready. No need to make yourself any more uncomfortable than you already are. Plus it might not even work except to make you sick. Also it is possible that the doctors may be wrong on your due date. They were wrong with mine. DD was a whole month early according to the doctors but she was measured the size of other babies born on and after their due date.

Sarh My doc told me he didnt think it had anything to do with the size of your hips. He has seen most petite ladies deliver perfectly without getting stuck. and alot of wider hipped ladies that did have issues. He said he really doesnt think that has anything to do with it. dont know if its true or not but if it is true I would have to agree...most young teenagers are having babies and they dont have as wide hips as an adult and they statistically deliver better then most age ranges.

oh and also...make sure everything on your to do list is DONE and try cleaning EVERYTHING AGAIN lol or just concentrate on how everything is ready for baby and get to a relaxed, peaceful, "just waiting for baby" state of mind. I know it sounds crazy but I really believe baby knows when you are really ready for him(her). Not just when you WANT him to come but when deep inside you KNOW your really ready. ( aside from the babies that come too early lol)

lol I say try it! my mom took it with me and went into labor...I would personally be afraid it would give me the poops while in labor...that would not be so pretty lol. I took a hot bath after my last doctor visit when he feels your cervix( they say that the doctor feeling your cervix sometimes induces labor) When he felt my cervix he said I was softened. I was scheduled to be induced 7 days later. well that night after the doc visit I took a hot bath and sat in it for about an hour until it got cold then I got out. As soon as I dried off and slipped my pjs on my water broke. So try that lol. I was also rubbing my belly with some baby oil...I was massaging my belly pretty roughly cause my back hurt and I was just trying to soothe myself. It could have been the massage or it could have been the hot loooong bath idk

I wouldn't do it... vomitting and severe diahrea are the possible side effects and you still may not go into labor.

Ask your midwife for an oil pill that induces labour.. I don't remember the name but you insert it vaginally and it thins out the cervix .... After you put it in you wait a bit and then take a walk or excersise.. :)

Ive heard alot about castor oil and i dont think you should use it, personally. Ive heard it could cause a baby to have a bowel movement before it is delivered, which is not good for the baby.

Castor oil Does not cause the child to have a bm thats a mith!...I used it and it didnt work sent me into false labour...I got up Had a long walk...then drank Red rasberry leaf tea..then had sex..then a bath...He came out 6 hrs later!! try red rasberry leaf tea it honestly works! and my Doc recomended it Plus it helps with milk production and it helps your stomach to tighten back up..and it also reduces the pain of your contractions!!

I tried the oil and it just gave me the runs. It was not fun. I didnt go into labor. I tried everything and nothing seemed to work it just came when it did for me. But i have heard of it working for some woman. But let me tell you I would NEVER try it again!! I felt horrible. I have heard of stripping membranes its something your doctor does?

I know your excited to see your little one, but don't you have enough discomfort coming soon from your labor that is quickly approaching? Enjoy the last few days of your pregnancy diarrhea and cramp free. I don't know about you, I hate when I get that being ill, I don't think I'd bring it upon myself... especially 39 weeks prego that just sounds beyond miserable!

When I was pregnant with my daughter, my neighbor, who was also a nurse, suggested castor oil. After a few weeks i decided to try it the day b4 my daughter was due. I took a mouthful from the bottle, and 8pm that night i went into labor!Worked for me :)

i have to agree with so many others, i'm sorry, i looked it up when i was pregnant, and i too decided it was too much of a risk for the baby to try. I will say, my SIL chugged about 4 bottles of it and she still didn't go into labor early, it was 2 weeks after that (2 days later than her due date) when she had the baby. I think you'll have the baby really soon. good luck and congrats.

Personally I would say NO!! I was in labor for about 3 days it did nothing but gave me a tummy ache....I was in the bathroom ALOT!!!!! & I became dehydrated quickly.....

I vote NO! I tried it at 38 weeks and the pain was so intense. All it did was make me have such bad diarrhea all night. It cleaned me out well, yes, but I did not go into labor. It wasn't worth it. It was so nasty going down..ugh. I just would never do that or recommend anyone try it!

No. Caster Oil is a natural laxative. If it doesn't make you ill(diarreah and/or vommiting) and dehydrated. Some of it could pass through the placenta. And your baby may have a bowel movement in womb. If aspirated it will make your baby very ill.

The only thing that triggers labor is the release of hormones from your body,pituitary gland(oxcytocin). And that only happens when your body decides it's time. Once that happens. You'll go into labor and you'll start having contractions. Until then. It's the waiting game.

Remember due dates are only estimates,not a baby alarm clock. Each come in their own time. I know it's hard to wait. You're in pain and just want to meet your baby. I've been there with both of my babies,both came over due. Just try your best to get through it,and be patient.

Two things I did that worked within 48 hours, so I'm not sure which actually did the trick. (I was 39 wks and 5 days, so same shoes as you!) Have your doc strip your membranes when they do a pelvic exam, it's quick, simple, and for me at least, didn't cause any pain whatsoever. The other thing I did was hook myself up to a breastpump for 10-15 minutes. I was in labor by morning! Best of luck, I know leaving baby in is for the best, but I also know how miserable it is to be pregnant at this point! (btw, I cleared these things with my doc before doing them, you should too IMO.)

Last note, if you do nipple stimulation, be aware that it can cause STRONG contractions, that's why I had my breast pump on the lowest setting and only kept it on for 10 or 15 minutes. BUT, I was so close to my due date it could have just been time too!

I would not do the castor oil thing. You may try Raspberry Tea though. It is supposed to bring on contractions and is a lot tastier.

i wouldnt advise using castrol oil, cause its very dangerous for the mom, and especially the baby too...i would just let ur body do it naturally..Some babies just want to stay warm and everything..

Don't take castor oil, it could cause fetal distress by making the baby have a bowel movement in utero. It makes you have contractions (sometimes) because it causes your colon to spasm. I used evening primrose oil I swear it ripened my cervix! And after if you're breastfeeding you can take it to help with the breast tenderness.

The only thing that has actually worked for me is being medically induced and with my second walking. I would walk every night with my husband and right around my due date I stepped it up to longer walks. The night I went in to labor I was walking like normal and I would feel small light contractions so I decided to just keep on walking I walked about 5 miles 1 1/2 hours at a steady pace (be sure to drink plenty of water) my contractions held strong at about 1 min apart so I called my doctor and went to the hospital. I know how much you would like to meet your new little one but I would think exercise is your best bet. Every small cramp/contraction puts you that much closer to having your little one so just keep exercising through the contractions and be patient. Good luck!!!!!! Let us know what works for you :)

castor oil is good, if your severely constipated and dont plan on doing anything for a few..lol. it makes you vomit and completly empty your bowel. not so sure about how good it is at getting a baby out. its sure good at getting everything else out though.

I spoke to my doctor about that because my son was also not coming out! He stated that it really will just cause massive upset stomach. My husband who is a nurse asked his co-workers and one stated that you should play with your nipples and try to stimulate a baby sucking with your fingers and do that for some time. I tried that and surely I began having contractions shortly after! So def worth a try!

It's probably the worst thing to try to bring on labour. When I was 40 weeks my midwife gave me a list of things to try to get the labour started, but nothing worked and I ended up being induced at 41 weeks and 4 days. Everyone told me to go for a long walk, but I only made it to the end of the driveway before I was buggered. I say relax and enjoy the quiet time before the baby comes.
Oh, I also tried primrose oil tablets, they worked for a friend but not for me.

My cousin tried it and said it was the worst thing she could have ever done...she spent the entire day on the toilet and still did not have a baby until 5 days later. I say let nature take its course and just do some more walking and having sex. Good luck and best wishes for a healthy baby! :)

If you feel like uncomfortably crapping your guts out...go for it. It makes a lot of people feel sick. That's all it really makes you do. I know gals who tried it multiple times and it did jack squat. Midwife should have said something about red raspberry leaf tea or 5W by Nature's Sunshine to start contractions and keep them coming. Is she a natural midwife? You can be 3cm forever and it doesn't really mean anything I guess. You could go from 1 to 4 in a day. It's just not the best indicator on when baby's coming, imo. So..I'd go with the tea and lots of walking. I was one day past my due date with both kids. Before bed, I took my 5w, drank my tea and watched a movie with husband. next morning 5am...here he comes.

i tried castor oil and orange juice it was nasty and never did anything for me mind just nade ne sick and i had the whole bottle of it yuk but some people it does work for my mum took it and she had my brother but they dont sell it to pregnant women anymore but anything is worth a try i tried loads of things to get my daughter to come early and nothing worked i walked for hours played footy with my niece and nephews had hot baths had a hot curry nothing worked so i went a week and 3days over due before they induced me and then i had to have an emergency c-section then my 2nd baby i had him a week early as i had a planned c-section thank god i couldnt wait any longer

castor oil i've only heard negative things about, but the one thing that works in my family with my first pregnancy (2nd i had complications so i couldnt) and all 4 of my cousins was.....BOWLING. one game and i was at the hospital with my cousin i think she had to bowl 2 or 3 and was in the hospital with in 2 days.

They made me stay in bed, I was only in labor for about 30-45mins and then pushed once, they wouldn't let me move or anything. She didn't get stuck and if I didn't have such wide hips I'm sure she would have, she had a big mexican head (lol!) and a bix square boxy chest. They said I tore because of her size and I delivered sooo fast! I didn't cry or moan or yell blah blah blah with either of my 2 and I had NO pain meds no epidural! With my son they insisted on inducing me after I told them to just break my water, well guess what I was right! Pitocin did nothing but false contractions! Broke my water and my son was born about 30mins later (1cm-pushing!). I don't understand all of that yelling and moaning and whatever else! I wanted to stand soo bad and with Jada I kept getting up to use the bathroom because I was 16 at the time and I didn't want to pee or poo on the bed and like you said it really does feel like it!
My mom told me that when my grandma gave birth to my aunt the doctors knocked her out because she was hooting and hollering like she was being murdered! LOL! And then when she woke up the nurse asked if she knew what she had and my grandma said "a boy". The nurse said no a little girl, my grandma got mad and said I don't want her, and I guess she didn't hold her for like a week if not longer!! Because she already had my mom (who she adopted, I'm not blood related to this psycho! haha just kidding) and wanted a boy.

Holy crap! I hope I don't need any stitches with this next one. They reckon if you stay upright there's less chance of the baby getting stuck and causing major tearing. That's what the midwife told me anyway she's like "try to give birth standing up" and I actually laughed at her thinking I'd be one of those people who lay down the whole time moaning. But I just naturally wanted to stand up and walk around and sit up and sit on the toilet bahaha

Wow! You ladies are spoiled! haha. My MIL had diarrhea and had my fiancee 6wks early.
I also pushed once with both of my babies, but with my daughter I needed 64 stitches! She was 9lbs 13.5oz and 22 1/2in. My son was 8lbs 12.5oz and 21 3/4in and no tearing! I rather give birth then go to the dentist!

I had my baby on the toilet though. I refused to leave because I insisted the baby was poo and they brang a mattress in and told me to stand up after he crowned the next time and he came out in one go. It was great, no tearing. I'd do it again.

Yeah I'm from Australia. They encouraged us to bring gummy bears for energy and juice. Then I was in labour and the contractions were 15 minutes apart for ages in the labour ward and they brang me fish with parsley sauce and mashed potato for dinner. I must have been really hungry because it tasted like the best meal I'd ever had in my life! Then I continued to eat gummy bears and drink red cordial lol. I read somewhere that diarrhoea is a sign that you're going to go in to labour soon. So is getting a burst of nesting and wanting to clean everything.

Sarh: The reason you cannot eat or drink anything is bc if you have to use the restroom and you start pushing to early then it can be harmful to the baby, or you could have the baby while on the toliet which is not good either.

I thought that the reason your not allowed to eat while in labor was to avoid you passing bowel movements because the baby comes out face down and it is toxic and extremely harmful to the baby? I don't know! I'm not an OB! lol. I'd rather not crap all over. haha.

And let me tell you! Castor oil is disgusting! I had to drink it when I was younger because one year on Christmas we visited like 4 different family members (parties) and I ate TONS of cheese! Well, yea, I got horribly constipated for DAYS maybe even weeks!! And they made me drink that crap.

Have you asked your OB if he/she can strip your membranes or I believe there is a cream they can put on your cervix that is said to make you dilate and cause contractions.

Be careful with trying to induce labor with sex, it caused false contractions for me! BUMMER!
