Castrol Oil for Natural Induction

Coming from somebody that just tried it a few days ago, I wouldn't do it. I ended up having uncomfortable pains and discomfort in my lower back and front, which yes, did give me contractions but when I went to the hospital I wasn't any more dilated and I wasn't in labor. So I ended up just feeling stupid and had to deal with the uncomfortable pain the rest of that night/day. Ended up sleeping the day away actually, and here I am almost three days later, no baby. Yes it works for some, but you need to be willing to deal with the discomfort that is almost guaranteed to come with it...labor is not. I will be 39 weeks Friday and I have just realized that I need to be patient..she will come when she is ready to come and when God knows it is the best time for her to come. So instead I've just been walking and having sex, which is the safest ways to naturally induce yourself. Good luck!

I tried nipple stimulation, which helped a little and gave me some mild contractions cause the first time I took castor oil didn't work. Then once I took it when I had mild contractions it threw me into a full blown labor. Good luck!

So many people suggest things like castor oil to induce labor, or eating something spicy, etc. Unfortunately for the very pregnant, and very tired of being pregnant women out there, these are nothing more than old wives tales. Often, the few that work, work only because they put your baby in distress.



It's best to steer clear of all these, and rely on the fact that your doctors are monitoring you, and your baby will come when he or she is ready. Making love with your husband or significant other is great, simply because it will help you relax and mellow out. Going for a walk supposedly helps, because it gets you up and moving, and gravity can hep pull the baby down into position for labor and delivery.



I know it's hard, but there's really very little you can do, besides being induced, to make your little one come early. Just relax, try to keep your mind off of how uncomfortable you are, and wait for nature to take its course.

I took castor oil for a week before I was due, I really wanted that baby out! All it did was make me poo. I went into labor at 12:00 am the day of my due date. The only thing good that came out of taking castor oil was that it cleaned me out so I didn't poo during delivery.

it never worked for me! i took it so many time i pretty much lost count. i wanted my son to come out early so we could be with my husband with is in the air force. i took it, sometimes a little more than i should, and i walked walked walked walked and bounced on my ball and nothing happened. my son didnt end up coming until the day after my due date. try your pressure points! they started my contractions and i truely believe if i would have kept up with the pressure points when they started my contractions that i would have had my son early.

If you have not still had the baby ask your doctor to strip your membranes this worked within three hours with me and induced me naturally with out the potocin!! Which was much better than getting the potocin. I have had four healthy babies and this seemed to be the best trick.

Have you had your baby already? This post is 6 days old. Well I did a combination of castor oil and sex, and it worked for me! It may have been a combo of the two and my baby coincedentally being ready, but something worked!

I'm guessing your little guy is just not ready to come yet.

I was dilated to 4cm on the saturday and still no further on the tuesday. Took some castor oil and went into full on labor about two hours later.

Our baby girl was born right on her due date.

I'm sure your boy will come when he's ready, good luck!

it has worked for several people i know. but it didnt work for me. That is because your baby isnt ready when hes ready hes going to come but not every body that uses that method had work but good luck and congrats when every that precious baby enters this awfull world

Don't rush it, it will happen. All castrol oil will do is make you have horrible diarrhea. Even if it would make you go into labor it would be horrible. Your not going to want to get off the toilet to go to the hospital. I was induced at 41 weeks, just have sex.

i don't think that really works the thing that helped me was the doctor said to have lots of sex. that is the best way to speed up the process. but that baby will come out when it is ready

It worked for me. You have to take a lot of it, though. I mixed mine with Pepsi and gagged it down. Then I took more, a couple of hours later. I had her in the middle of the night. You just have to be willing to put up with a lot of diahrea and cramping...not much worse then labor!!! good luck

ok well, i tried that when i was 38 weeks. i DO NOT RECOMMEND IT! i was sick for 3 days and 38 weeks pregnant...no fun. i couldn't even work lol. i had a scheduled ob appointment a week later and they ended up inducing me because i was 4cm but i would say don't do it. it didn't do anything but make me sick.

ur just not ready!!! it works i went to the hospital at 1 am had my son at 242am it makes ur wall soft so i was 2cent when i got there and went 8cent 30 mins later so be ready

You, physically, mentally and emotionally might be ready but he may not be ready. It is best that the baby stay in there as close to the 40 weeks as possible so he has more time to develope and prepare to be in this world. Being dialated and effaced doesn't really matter. I was dialated to 3 and was 50% effaced for the last 3 months of my last pregnancy and I made it all the way up to a few days shy of my due date and I was actually induced with potossin then. There's plenty of other things you can do to naturally induce labor (walking, sex, a rough ride in the country), however when the baby isn't ready and neither is your body, it's not going to work and you're just going to be more miserable than you were before.

i personally would not drink castor oil. i totally understand that you are miserable. but remember that the doctor telling you that you are 39 weeks is only an estimate, doctors can not be totally sure. your baby boy obviously is not ready to come out. he is still needing your body for something or he would be out by now. they come when its time. although there are natural ways to induce yourself and castor oil is not a natural way. walking is one and sex is the top one. semen will soften your cervix and that is natural. sex is fine have. please let your baby do what he is doing, and no more castor oil or anything like that!!

Try the nice way have sex! It worked for me, went to the dr on Friday he said it would still be 2 weeks and the next day we had sex and that evening I went into labour!

when i had my last baby 5mths ago i was 39wks and had had enough so i tried carstor oil and all i did was ive me servere upset tummy and bad cramps which is bad for both mummy and baby but in the end i took 1 primrose oil capsule at 4.30pm orally and urally went into labout at 4am the next morning primrose oil capsules naturally soften the cervix and help make you contract easier and dilate easier my labour and delivey wqs only 3hrs from start to finish so give that ago it really des work GOOD LUCK

I tend to laugh at people's attempts to induce labor...bottom line, if the baby is ready, and ONLY if the baby is ready, do these methods work. Which is why some methods seem to "work" for others and not for some. Baby will come when it is ready...don't do things to put your unborn at risk.

hei i drank it with coffee it had yukky taste but no vomiting or diarea. i got the contraction a few hours later but i didnt know that that thing is conttraction. funny!!!
after getting in hosp infussion n still only 5n same in the morning. i ended with c section cause my baby changed his position. was it because of oil or smth else i dont know, but take my advice- wait let everything be natural as long as u know that ur baby is still ok inside n have enough water, cause my water was almost finished cause of 2.5 more weeks.

dear deana, i say u wait for ur 40th week to begin, even then if ur labor does not begin naturally then go for castor oil.... its a tried n tested method, i did it when i had my second baby and was 40 weeks + with absolutely no signs of labor... and hells yea it worked! good luck

I agree raspberry leaf tea is much safer- with castor oil there is the risk of the baby releasing meconium into the amniotic fluid. But it really is best to let the baby bake until it is ready. Pitocin inductions really aren't very safe and they increase the risk of c-sections in a big way.

I know lots of people that it has worked miracles for, unfortunately I dont think it works for everyone!!!!!! I am now 40+ weeks & tried the castor oil with walking etc I have been doing it since 37 weeks but i just guess i'm not ready. Both my sister & cousin had their babies within hours of taking the oil, I just dont get it :-(

I really wish I could say that this works! After I got the ok from the Dr,, I tried a little...then a little more, then the whole bottle. Nothing happened! Nearly a week later, I went to a funny movie (The Hangover) laughed for hours on end, then gave birth to my baby girl early that next morning! Let me say I HAD HER SOOO FAST it was basically unheard of for a first child! So maybe try laughing hard?  The baby will come when ready! I hope it all goes well for you and good luck! Have you asked the Dr. about having your membranes stripped?

i dont know if you mean castor oil? but thats what i tried and it worked the second time i did it. i tried it on the thursday and nothing happened but then on the friday night i did and saturday i went into labour but delevered really fast so i didnt have any pain releif. it does work but only if they baby is in position it just makes it happen faster. but yes you do have the runs as well cos its also a laxitive. Unfortunatly you are probably just not ready for labour and dont do it to much.

It has worked for most people I know, including myself... like any other natural induction method, the baby has to be ready, or it won't work.

It will make you so sick that even if you DO go into labor (which you probably won't) that it makes it that much harder. Hang in there!

That dont work. I learned the hard way.. Dont try or think about it to hard.. I tried for almost a month to get my son out.. IT DONT WORK!! I stayed dialated to a 2 and 75% for 3 weeks. When i stopped worrying about tryin to put myself into labor ( the night before i was induced) i started havin mild contractions and went from dialated to 2 to dialated to a 3..

Well we didn't mean to do "it" have to have the baby because I was still 5 weeks early, but it worked anyways. I was 2 cms dialated about 4 hours after and my son was born the next morning.

I drank a whole bottle in one sitting when i was two weeks overdue and all i had was terrible diarrohea. I had contractions for a few hours on and off but nothing happened. My sisiter in law swears by it but i just think when your body is ready it will happen. Good Luck.

A normal pregnancy can go for 38 to 42 weeks and you're only 39. When the baby's lungs finish development the baby releases a hormone (can't remember the name) that lets your body know it is ready to labor, oxytocin is then released and you start to labor. Some women labor for weeks without knowing before any serious labor starts. Try to be patient your baby will be here soon enough, why not let he or she come when they're ready? It's only a couple of weeks longer at the most, if your relaxed labor progresses more quickly and stress can actually prolong or stop labor altogether, take up a hobby and take your mind off it. I know your uncomfortable but try and look at it this way I'm sure if you had to you would jump in front of a bus if it meant protecting your little one, so whats a couple of weeks discomfort in comparison? Just keep thinking not long now and enjoy all those little movements because it will be a long time before you get to feel them again.

It's just an old wives tale. I tried prim rose oil, it comes in caplets and I used it twice. It softens your cervix alowing it to dilate quicker and also helps prevents ters (my labor was 7 hours and NO ters with my first, she was 8.5). But my understanding is it only helps if you've already started to dilate. The only thing that can help move things along is sex!! there is something in seamen that triggers labor!!

Never tried it, but the night before my water broke i took two hot baths and ate spicy chili for dinner and i woke up the next morning and my water broke. they ended up having to give me pitocin to get my contractions going because after 4 hours i didn't have any contractions, but like everyone else has said the baby will come when it's ready.. just make sure you walk lots it don't help induce labor it just makes your labor easier.

I used that method when I was 38 weeks and 1day. You do need to have some small contractions for it to work. I used the castor oil on 6-21-08 and 6-22-08 about 13 hrs later Kaden was here! With no problems! Hope it works for you if you choose to use it.

DONT DO IT!!!!!!!! I tried that because I was sooo ready to have my baby and was dialated and blah blah blah....anyway it is so thivk and nasty all it did wa make me want to throw up and I even tried mixing it with juice!!!! It is the worst thing I ever did! I would not reccomend it to anyone!

I used it when I was 37 weeks with my third. I have hard pregnancies and none of them have been full term. My third pregnancy was very hard on me and I just wanted her out. I took the castor oil and 4 hours later I was contracting and my water broke.

I tried it w/ my first and my 3rd and it work on my first but didnt work on my third! i would do it again it makes the baby poop inside u and causes them to develop breathing problems

It worked for me with all three of my kids, took it with coke a cola to reduce the taste and walked two miles directly after wards went in to labor with in a few hours and babies were born. My first son was already two weeks late and I was miserable 2cm and 30% eface, had him 6 hours later, second baby two weeks early took it and few hours later baby born, my third was three weeks early I was just done carry my kids she was born, I was 2 cm with each kids when I took the caster oil and each baby was born hours later. It depends on your body and where you are in the labor process naturally.
I just recommend a friend who is pregant take it and she did 2 hours later she had her baby she was also 2cm and this is her second child. The first was is a little tricker.
