My first son's nursery was "Hey Diddle Diddle" I bought the bedding and had a lady come in and paint the nursery ryhme on the walls with murals...we had a cat playing afiddle, one wall was a moon with a cow jumping over it, a dog laughing, and of course a dish running away with the spoon. It was absolutely adorable. I found a rug that was Hey diddle Diddle and for the other side of the room I got a rug that was a crescent moon... when he got bigger I did his room in "transportation" we had cars, trucks, construction vehicles, and planes hanging from the ceiling and a few smaller rugs in the shape of trucks and cars. Then we painted just blue walls and got red, white, and blue plaid matching comforter sets and sheets and did a few framed Star Wars posters. Now, he is turning nine and we are about to take the bunkbeds apart and make them just two separate beds in his room (they are large slat wooden bunk beds) I have created an entertainment nook with his ntertainment center and a game chair and his books and games and then on the other side of theroom i have his desk with his laptop and desk organizer with pencils and post it notes... above the desk we hung some shelves to showcase his sports trophies and the posters have been replaced with a fabric memory board (in royal blue) and a wooden plaque I made that is a large square painted royal blue (the walls are light blue) and then I painted a "K" in the same light blue and glue it on and hung it over his bed. I have plain navy blue rugs in there now... he too big for cutesy stuff (he thinks).

My second son... I decided to go more sophisticated baby with him. We painted the room very light brown and my husband striped two walls with dark brown. I used dark brown and light brown striped comforter set with his name painted in dark brown on large wooden letters hung with striped and polka dot ribbon and homemade curtains that my mom made out of upholstery material of all different brown stripes with three large brown stars on the wooden pole they are hung on. I bought one large area rug and it is light brown with dark brown swirls on it with a few light green and orange swirls in the background to have a splash of color. I hung two large picture frames on the walls that were striped and polka dots ... too cute!

Hello, when my son was born we had a monkey theme for him, and found it easier to have my mom make curtains, and go to some play and learn stores and get stick ups. His blankets werent purely monkeys but you could get just just of it. But when he turned 1 1/2 he started to show his own personality so we changed the theme to Thomas the Tank Engine... He will be 3 next month and he still really loves Thomas! But I hope you can find something that you really like and wont be to difficult for you to do!

I'm wanting to do a VeggieTales theme with my daughter when we get our own place because she just loves VeggieTales. Either that or the Disney Princesses.

I do not believe my kids should have a character in their room, or on their clothes, shoes, backpacks or sheets for that matter. But my four year olds nursery theme was jungle animals and the colors were sage green and tan, he still has all of the stuff and doesn't want to change his room, my now one year old is all mint green, yellow, and pink Laura Ashley it has different fabrics with those colors in it, some floral, gingham, plaid, stripes, ruffles. Now that they share a room each has their own theme on their two walls that touch each bed and it actually looks really cute. My sons animal is a monkey and my daughter a frog so having all the frog and monkey stuff really pulls together the two different nursery themes.

My daughter's room is pink with a mermaid border, the curtains are pink and white with a white curtain rail and her cot is also white as are her draws. I think it all matches nicely!

I know that when I was looking for bedroom stuff for my son I was looking for a no theme, theme.... I went with just different shades of blue and his bumper was blue on one side and (small) checkers of blue and white on the other. Very baby boy... no we still have the sheets and blue curtains but we have planes, trains, and boat accents.

My son had farm animals when he was born and now that he is 2 we're just doing his room up in a construction theme and for our new baby (due in may) we're thinking about planes or butterflies depending on the sex.

Dragon flies, with a unique, warm orange and green tones. Not the bronzy orange or the bright orange but a warm very slightly red orange, with medium warm green, and appliqued dragon flies. I'm really having trouble finding the right colors at Joanne's!
Just don't do Noah's ark! I'm a Christian and I love Jesus but it blows my mind that people put the judgement of human kind on their kids wall, it was a time when thousands of people died, everyone on the earth except 8 people were executed because of their unrepentant hearts!!!
If you want a Christian theme with lost of animals use the creation, not Noah's ark!

Franshell,

I looked at Alice fabric..there is some fabric but most is old fashion and vintage looking and some is childish and then they have silhouette which I liked (http://www.etsy.com/listing/53117558/ali...)
I also found the cutest lamp ever (http://www.etsy.com/listing/58854240/cus...).
both are from etsy sites...if you go to the site and search I am sure you will find some cute creations you could even do your bedding in a color that matches pictures or alice items you buy and put around your room ( I believe someone here said they did that) If you would like the bedding made I could do it.
Good Luck!

You should do a robot theme!

I vote either a robot, or alien theme.

Like make the entire bedding look like the body of a robot (like quilt style), and make a pillow that looks like a robot head or something.

The arms can be sewn onto the bumpers.

Ahh haha. So much fun!

For a girl I would think big red poka dots.

It really all depends on how much I pay for the fabric and the amount of time is put into it...I try to be decent with pricing but I'm not sure how much I'd consider for this project yet I've never attempted it before..which probably isn't very reassuring but I would not sell something I didn't deem worthy I'm not cruel. My sons bedding is giraffes, I wanted frogs because I love frogs but babies r us did not have that theme yet and my set was on clearance and too cute to pass up so my Mommy bought it for my son :)

[deleted account]

I wanted Peter Rabbit (Beatrix Potter) but it was very hard to find. I found some vintage Peter Rabbit nursery stuff online but it was too expensive for me. So we went with a pistachio green and yellow color theme and added some small Peter Rabbit accessories...books standing upright on the shelf, some stuffed animals, an antique mobile that was given to me, etc. I would have paid for someone to make a Peter Rabbit room for me if it was a fairly reasonable price...a little higher than what you'd find in big name baby stores would have been okay.

Thank you for the wonderful examples everyone I am looking forward to making my first baby room set!!!! so excited I want to get started now!! and if anyone needs a baby chair or floor pillow etc. send me a line on my etsy and I will be more than happy to let you know if i can make it haha!

[deleted account]

Since it's so far in advance, I'll add you to my favorites on etsy.com and then get in touch with you when the time comes. But I really think there is a market for more unique bedroom themes such as that. For example, pirate bedding. There is little to no pirate bedding. If a friend of mine hadn't swiped that idea from me (she's having a boy in a few months), I would have gone that route. Some other ideas I have had; little sailor boy, constellations (boy and/or girl), story book quilts (a different scene from famous fairy tales on each square), Mermaids (this is my daughter's theme), robots, etc.! I'm full of them!

Not that exact dragon, just something along those lines. There is so much baby dragon art out there, but a lot of it just looks like baby dinosaurs with wings :/

If we have a boy next (I'm planning on getting prego in August, so our next kid will be born in May 2012) I want to do a cute baby dragon theme (dragons kind of like this: http://www.strangeling.com/babyreddragon...). 2012 will be the Chinese year of the Water Dragon. We're not Chinese, but I thought it was unique. However I can't find anything, nada, zip! So there's a challenge for you!

We did Sleeptime Baby Snoopy for our daughter, and we've got tons of snoopys in there, including the 4 ft tall snoopy that was in my nursery when I was a baby :) (Also, I looooove etsy!!) We figured it was good for a boy or girl. I think her big girl room we will do either Pink Elephants or Owls. Her 1st Bday party will be Owls! Too Cute :)
