I just read an article on childhood obesity is being "spread" to children as young as 2. I do not understand how obestity is spread(it is not a virus) im pretty sure you get there by not eating right and not maintaing fitness.its not as if its the flu its just horrible and lazy parenting! I understand that in some RARE cases it could be because of an underlying medical issue. But honeslty what are people thinking 2 year olds should NOT be overweight let alone obese??? serve your kids healthy foods and parents who say they dont have time really how hard is it to hand your kid an apple? I'm just frustrated that people are willing to put there childrens health at risk for convience. Does any one else feel like this a crazy??? and people who say they dont know better im pretty sure we were all taught in elementary to use fats and sweets sparingly..

I agree..I dont think there is an excuse unless there is a medical issue. My kids love their fruits, some vegetables but dinner every night has a veggie and regardless if they want to, they are made to eat it. Even if its only a couple peices. Something is better than nothing. Snacks I try to do cheese and crackers and grapes or apple. Special occasions they get candy. Not often. When there is a dessert in the house, they may have a sliver but we dont usually buy the sweets, although my husband loves them. It is just as easy to prepare something a little more healthy than not. Doesnt take up any more time. I just dont think there is an excuse.

And even if you have to feed your children fast food, just choose the healthy options. I don't think parents are "bad parents" for letting their kids eat fast food, just make the right choices. I do agree with children being active and playing outside (although, its a bit too cold for that now). I agree, it's all about monitoring what your children eat and making sure they eat more of whats good for them than the bad stuff. My kids (well just the oldest) eats junk food, but its not everyday or in large portions. But she also eats plenty vegetables and fruit and gets homecooked meals :)

Quoting Jamie:

Amen! I hate when parents give thier kids crap. My kids know what fast food is and that its ok to eat every once in a while, but not all the time. Heck , they are lucky if they get it once month. We just had to eat fast food for a few days when we moved and let me tell you, DH and I felt like crap. We dont really have junk food in our house, I did get lucky and my kids dont like ice cream or cake, mainly just chocolate, so we give them dark chocolate as a treat, which is better then milk chocolate. Parents need to turn the tv off, put away the video games and get the kids active, teach them to eat right and teach them to make good food choices when they arent around.

Same with my son he knows what fast food is and has it occasionally, but he also knows to make healthy choices. and he IS 2. My son loves being independent since im mainly a stay at home mom he is allowed to go and get things from the fridge himself(he mainy sticks to apples, oranges, string cheese on occasion) and we do keep some junk food in our house but every one does monitor what they eat and im so proud that he knows whats healthy and whats not. I'm currently 25 weeks pregnant and he told me yesterday that my belly was too big and iI need to make healthy choices..lol..if I can teach a 2 year old that why cant adults learn it??
