I am having to wait going to the dr. because of the holidays everyone is going crazy!

my 6 week old son got a cold, we took him to the dr. and he said not to worry about, but my son has passed it over to me. I am miserasble to say the least. I am breastfeeding , but is there anything safe I can take to relieve some of my pain???

advil is a no no during pregnancy and breastfeeding as are all NSAID's, It gets into the breast milk and aspirin and NSAIDs are not reccomended for under 12 year olds because it can cause renal problems. Honestly don't take anything except paracetamol and inhalations till you see a doctor

you can take tylenol or advil but thats about it... you can take robitussin but it cant have any letters after the name like robitussin DM or C or any letter for that matter. dont take anything to dry up your nose (anything that says Expectorant or for nasal decongestion) because that can cause your milk to dry up. i breast fed for the first year and i get sick everytime the seasons change (and i have my whole life) so it was pretty miserable getting sick and trying to get better while breastfeeding just had to stick it out.

The only thing I can say is be careful what you take. I had the same problem the doctor gave me something and he said it was fine. I took the meds and it dried up my breastmilk so I had to stop breastfeeding.

i am a pharmacy tech - we only reccomend paracetamol for breast feeding mums. Be very careful of the vicks though as you are in close contact with your baby and could accidently get some on your son, you could try the vicks as an inhalation mix it in hot water in a bowl then put your head over it and cover your head with a towel so the steam is channeled through your nose, you can also do steam inhalations without the vicks get well soon

Can only really take paracetamol but I recommend using Vicks or another vapour rub. Will keep tubes clear and relieve headaches, plau should help you sleep. Cant use it on baby til 6 months because it can burn their skin but the fumes from you are harmless and will keep baby clear too.

I had cold courtesyof my boy too, hot water, diluting orange or lemon and a spoonful of honey is a good mix too

Ask the chemist which ones are safe.
I've taken cold and flu tablets while breastfeeding. But I don't recomend taking the night time ones as they completely knocked me out and I was very drowsy for night feeds.
