I am looking at getting a new convertable carseat for my son who will be 4 months on the 4th. He has almost out grown his infant carseat, not because of weight but because he is so long. I was just seeing what everyone thought was the best brand to get. I have looked at consumer reports but I would like the opinions of other moms as to what they think was best. I also wanted to know at what age you switch it to the forward facing position. I'm a first time mom so all advise would be great. Thanks moms!

Well I got the Evenflo Triumph Advance and it fits in the car and my son seems comfey in it. I think he likes it because as soon as I put him in there it looked like he was gonna fall asleep. Thanks for all your help moms!

I urge you to try the Evenflo out in your car before you buy it. Sometimes the knobs can be really hard to use rear facing. Babies R Us will let you try out their seats.

As far as forward facing, the very minimum is 1 year and 20 pounds. It is actually recommended that they stay rear facing until the limits of their seat. I encourage parents to keep them rear facing for a minimum of 18 months to 2 years. Their necks just aren't ready for the impact that occurs in a collision if they are forward facing.

We had to switch car seats at about 6 months because my son hit the 22 lb. limit. We actually bought the cheapest car seat we found and are very happy with it. I believe is is Evenflo. Infants can not switch to forward-facing until 1 year of age AND 20 pounds though. A long time to wait, but it's all about their safety. :)

Thanks for all the help, I think I'm going to go with the Evenflo Triumph Advance. It got the highest rating on consumer report and I have read a lot of good reviews about it. Sometimes this stuff gets overwhelming because there are so many different ones to choose from. Thanks again for all your help!

The nontwist straps on my Britax make it worth every penny alone! They are so easy to adjust. I also like how it accomodates heavier children in teh rearfacing position.

My favorite two seats are the true fit and the britax marathon. They are both easy to use and will last a long time. Another good seat is the Evenflo Triumph Advance. It is pretty easy to install too. I usually try to avoid any of the 3 in 1 seats, altough they are getting better! They tend to be pretty difficult to install, especially rear facing. Many of them harness to 50 pounds now, and have thicker straps that don't twist as easily.

I don't have a budget for a seat and I drive a Ford Escape so room isn't an issue. I just want to try and get the best seat for my baby, there are so many out there and I'm so confused on which one to get.

What is your budget for seats and what kind of car do you drive? There are so many seats out there that it is best to start with a little information that can kind of narrow it down. That said, as someone else mentioned, the true fit is a really great seat. It harnesses to 65 pounds and has a lot of really nice features.

We have two different car seats. We have the nautilus which is only front facing so your son is too young for that yet. But we also have the Evenflo Triumph Advance which I love too. I wasnt super excited to buy an evenflo ( i worked at Babies R Us for 3 years and wasnt a huge fan) but I was convinced and am happy about it. When we got it installed the firefighter was so impressed with it. It has side impact protection. It faces rear and forward and I believe it goes up to 40 pounds so after that you will just have to buy a regular booster. Your son can front face at 20 pounds and 1 year. He has to be both unless you get a note from your doctor stating he is too long to rear face and it would do more harm then good if you were in an accident. I hope this has helped. I love helping with baby products...BRU is in my blood!

We have the Alpha Omega Elite Convertable seat. Can be used from Newborn through 100 lbs as a booster. It is one of a very few that will go that high in weight! We used it for our daughter, and got a second for our son because we loved it so much! I have recommended them to several friends who were pregnant, and everyone else loves it too!

We have the First Years True Fit convertible car seat, we love it! It received a 4 star ease of use rating from the NAtional Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which is the only car seat to receive this high a rating from them. It has this amazing NASA type foam that absorbs high energy upon impact and it has deep side wings that have been side impact tested. It's useful until your child no longer needs to be in a seat anymore.

As for switching them to forward facing, I wa sjust reading an article in Parents magazine about how soooo many parents switch forward too soon...technically you should follow the weight guidelines for the maximum rear facing weight that come with whichever seat you purchase.

Good Luck :D
