Hello All Moms,

I need to put this out there just in case, but I have a Heritage Collection 3 in 1 convertable crib that was bought for me as a baby shower gift from Kmart. This crib was only sold at Kmart and was manufactured by Victory Land Group. This crib has the drop side just like all the other cribs that have been recalled but for some reason this crib has not been voluntarily recalled by Victory Land Group.

I am having issues where the drop side does not latch properly which leaves a big potential for my daughter to get hurt or worse. I have reported the problem to the company (who told me that the crib was not recalled but was discontinued and that there was nothing they could do to help me and then refused to call me back when I asked to speak to a manager) but they have done nothing. I put in a complaint with the BBB but Victory Land Group never responded to that either. I have also put in a complaint with the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

If anyone else has this crib and is having any problems (even if they are unrelated to the drop side) please please please contact the Consumer Product Safety Commission and make a complaint. www.CPSC.gov

Please do not wait to do something about this. This crib needs to be recalled ASAP.

I have this crib. Dorel Asia made the same exact crib after kmart discontinued this one. Unfortunately mine is the older model and was manuafctured in 2007(I bought it when I found out I was pregnant in 2008) I had contacted Dorel Asia and they were all set to send me a new fixed side crib. Until they realized my crib was the older model. They polietly pointed me in the right direction. VLG has been rude, and short tempered with me because I had the nerve to call them and tell them their online form wouldn't accept my phone number. They are reviewing the pictures I sent them and will determine if I am allowed the cheap lil pieces that you screw in to make it so the side wont go down but I'm sorry...I will NEVER use this crib again. They screwed up on the crib itself and have obviously tried everything to get out of owning up to their mistake. Next year they will be recalling the repair kits. BAD BAD BAD company with horrible customer relations!

Katie, you beat me to it! I was going to post his personal number for everyone to personally call him. I never received the crib, he would rather die than refund the crib, and he is now ignoring my calls. I'll post it on face book though. The BBB never received any response from him so they closed it and are putting a bad mark against the company. Sears is supposed to call me back again sometime this week.

Hi Everyone,

Just an update, I received a phone call from a Michael Lewis who is the VP of Sales for Victory Land Group. Because I was at work I was unable to answer the phone, but he did leave a message for me. Long story short, he does not feel that he should have to reimburse me for the crib. He is willing to send me the parts to fix the drop side to make it secure. Why is the company now willing to send me those parts 2 months after I requested them. When I first contact Victory Land Group that is what I requested that they send me to fix the crib. They refused to. After making 3 phone calls (twice asking for a manager), 2 emails, a complaint throught the BBB and a complain through my local consumer affairs office, I had no choice but to purchase a new crib. I am sorry but anything less than a refund is not acceptable. I gave them the opportunity to fix the issue 2 months ago.

If you are still having issues, contact Michael Lewis. His office number is 630-540-7005. Lets put the pressure on him to fix the issue that his company caused.

Also contact Sears Corporate Holdings to put in a complaint with them about Victory Land Group. I did and I was told that my complaint would be viewed by the corporate office. If enough people complain to Sears Corporate Holdings, there is a good chance that they will stop offering products from Victory Land Group. Let Sears know that the products they are offering are a representation of them and that Victory Land Group is giving a bad image to both the manufacturer and the reseller.

My final suggestion is to take video of your defective crib and send this information to both your local media as well as the local media in Illinois which is where the company is located. Sears Corporate Holding is also located in IL so they will be able to see first hand what products they are offering and how poorly the manufacturer is handling the situation.

Hi Katie, just because a crib has the same parts as another crib, it does not neccesarily mean that those parts will break. Have you had any problems with the crib so far? If you do feel that there is a problem and the crib needs to be recalled please contact the Consumer Product Safety Commission so that they can do an investigation on the crib. If they feel it is neccessary they will recall the crib once the investigation is complete.

Paulina, I would not even accept a fixed side crib from that company. The way they handle their customers, you will end up having an issue with that crib and you will end up in the same possition that you are in now. I am suprised that the guy even called you back. I threatened to go to the BBB, the CPSC, and the media and I still have not received a response.

Even if you bought the crib on clearance, the manufacturer has a responsibily to make sure that their products are safe for the consumer. It does not matter what you paid for the crib, if you are having problems with it, it is the manufacturers responsibily to correct those issues, even if that means refunding the replacement cost of the crib. As a consumer there is a 3 year statute of limitation on defective products. You do have a legal right to sue the company if they fail to correct the issue to your satisfaction.

Is there a local government consumer protection office that you can contact to help you get legal action? I contacted my local Office of Consumer Affairs who is currently trying to help me get a refund on the crib. I would also go ahead and contact your local media. Lets get the word out there that this comany is irresponsible and has extremely poor customer service. Maybe then they will take us seriously.

None of Victory Land Groups have. I am so sick of trying to be patient and work with this guy. He told me my crib was on clearance and he received the letter that I wrote to the BBB. It said I didn't want another crib, but a refund. He doesn't want to refund the full amount. He said he could get me another fix sided crib that wasn't the one with the changer, and I thought that would be fine. Except he was supposed to have shipped it last monday and email me to tell me so. yep nothing. I am waiting for this crib to materialize. I don't care if I bought the crib for a freaking penny, which I didn't, it should be safe for my baby to sleep in at night. You know the whole purpose of a crib. I think this guy is just stringing me along. I have just been getting voice mail this last week. If nothing happens this week I am done with this guy, and going to contact the local media and the BBB again. Eventually they will recall our cribs and they will have to issue a immobilizer part.

i dont have this crib but i have one made by victory land group its the one with the changing table attached to it. it was also sold by kmart. i went to walmart the other day and saw a picture of a crib that had metal bars that hold the mattress up and the crib was recalled because the bars broke. my crib has those exact same metal bars but it has not been recalled i took my son out of it because it scared me. but i think if there was a crib like that recalled then mine should have been also right?

We should try to get as many moms with this crib together and threaten t file a lawsuit against the company if they do not refund the money for the cribs with or without having a receipt. I don't have a receipt because my crib was a gift from my parents.

It is just completely unbelievable the way they are handling these cases. I threatened to go to the media and to a lawyer and it didn't even phase them. I know that there is a 3 year statute of limitations on merchandise purchases that have a defect in them. I would definutely consider this a manufacturer's defect.

What is the group called on facebook? I would like to join.

Good evening ladies. I have had the same problem with the same crib, since we put our daughter in it! I called Dorel thinking it was their crib, because I bought the whole set at Kmart. I have contacted the CPSC, Sears because they hold Kmart, the BBB, and the company themselves. When I first contacted the company a customer service rep told me that it was not recalled, it was discontinued, and that I needed to throw it away and buy a new one. I told her it was having problems with the drop side, and she said the manuel says if the hardware if malfunctioning to stop using it and since I had used it I was responsible if I killed my kid. I asked to speak to her supervisor and she told me she would tell me the same thing. She then stated what did I expect from Kmart furniture, and that I had probably got it on clearance. She then started yelling at me and hung up on me. I called again to speak to a supervisor and was told she was at lunch and transferred to her voicemail. So I left a message and was told I would be contacted within 48 hours. Yea, nothing. So I called again and she was always out, not available, or I got voicemail. I called again on monday and got voicemail again. So I called and told them I would be contacting the media if I didn't speak to a living body in management. I was on hold a long time. She took my name and number and said someone would call me by the end of business day or monday. I said if they called on monday it would be to late I would have already contacted the media. I received a call within half an hour. The guy seems to be working with me. He told me he would call me back on friday, and he didn't so I called today and left a message, and then i called again right before 5. He picked up. We'll see if he follows through. I made a group on face book too!

I do have her in a pack-n-play. And from my understanding they do stll make cribs.

Hi Stephanie,

Unfortunately I don't think this is the same crib. The manufacturer is Dorel and not Victory Land Group and the model numbers do not match what is on my owners manuel. Also the date of this posting is back in January and revised in March of 2010. When I first put in my complaint with Victory Land Group last month they said that the crib had not been recalled. I would still contact the CPSC and put a report in just in case this is not the same crib.

Hey today I got word from someone off another site. Our cribs have been recalled. This is why Victory isn't getting back to us. When I went on their site it didn't even have cribs on it anymore take it they don't make them anymore.

Thank you soo much for calling to valididate my case. I have been having such a hard time getting any form of response from Victory Land Group. They ignore your phone calls, your emails, your complaints from the BBB.

Please take your son out of the crib and place him is another safer sleeping environment. Amber is currently sleeping in her pack and play. Please just don't take the risk.

I also recommend that you get in touch with your local government consumer advocates. Hopefully they will be able to assist you in getting a full refund for your crib. I would not accept anything less than a full refund. This company has been extremely difficult to get to correct the issues with their crib and I would not recommend owning another product manufactured by this company. This company does have an F rating through the BBB.

Please keep me posted on the progress you are making with getting this crib recalled. The more people that get their stories out the more likely it is that the crib will be recalled.

I also have the same crib, the latch does not work properly I kept wondering how my son would get out of his crib and finally noticed it. We are currently moving and I really noticed it should be recalled as I was taking it apart. It has similar latches to the recalled cribs currently. My son also chews on his crib there are teeth marks all along the sides. I will be calling CPSC in the morning when they open up. I tried to call tonight but says they are already closed.

I do know that CPSC is trying to get all drop side cribs recalled.

I just can't believe the lack of concern from Victory Land Group and I am not going to stand around and do nothing when this has the potential to take a child's life. No parent deserves to lose their child.

Go you for bringing this up! People are always so worried about bringing up things that "stir up trouble". (We have had 2 of the cribs affected by all the recent recalls.) I certainly hope that your actions save somebody's child, and that you can get refunded for your crib.
I have had to do the same thing, with an IKEA mobile that we bought for our son. Thankfully he was never hurt, but it is still on the market. The strings are 4-18 inches on it! The limit is supposed to be 6 to prevent strangulation. I have filed with the CPSC too, but it appears they will not recall the item. (I filed nearly 2 years ago)
