So, I'm very close to going into labor with my first child and thinking about what I'm going to do after my husband and I become sexually active again... I know that breastfeeding mothers only have a few options for birth control and I have narrowed it down to 2 options that will work for me. I was on depo for about 5 years before becoming pregnant with our expected daughter.. I stopped taking it b/c i was sick of feeling fat and it took a year and a half to get pregnant... (I lost 50 lbs tho!)
I really want to try the pill or the patch, I've never had that type of birth control. and I really want to see if a different set of hormones wont make me gain so much weight... but breastfeeding moms cant use that kind so I'm looking into either getting 3 or 4 depo shots while I am breastfeeding and then switching to the pill after a year, or trying out Mirena for 9mo to a year and then switching to the pill...
I have had no bad symptoms from depo besides the weight gain, (NO PERIODS WHAT SO EVER! its awesome! ^_^) but I'm pretty sure if i get even one shot I will be as good as sterile for another year and a half (might not be bad) and wont loose any baby weight... :( *also, being pregnant hasn't made me gain as much weight as depo did! believe it or not :P*
but on the other hand the risks with having an object floating around in my uterus make me really nervous.. I really want us to be able to have children again :( and my family has a history with IUD's not working well, or actually causing problems. But I would love to just take it out and have the hormones be gone...
Comments? Opinions? Advice? ^_^
I am open to alternatives if people know any... Except the implant (too permanent for what I'm looking for) and NFP.. there is no way i could keep track of all that right now, maybe after future children if I don't just get my tubes tied (which I probably will after 2 or 3 kids *total*)
