My Just turned one year old hates getting his diaper changed!!! I have done everything I can think of to make it a more positive experience, but nothing seems to be helping. We sing, play games, I try giving him a toy or book to look at, but all I get in return is kicking, screaming and usually a big mess. Any ideas on how to make a dirty job less challenging?

My son is 19 months and also hates diaper changing time. It was really starting to get to my husband. Then one night when I was laying Connor down to change his diaper he started whimpering saying, "No night-night! No night-night!" We had got into a routine of changing his diaper right before naptime/bedtime and associated diaper changes to bedtime. So now we try to change his diaper and let him play for at least 10-15 minutes then put him down.

Thanks everyone! Things are starting to get better! I think that I was just starting to get so stressed about every diaper change, and that stress was transferring to my boy. So i did like Tamra suggested and it really helped! It made me be more relaxed and in return, Graham. I have also change his wipes like Kimberly suggested and this has also helped. Thank you!

Hi there. The best thing i can tell you in this situation is to try using huggies little walkers instead of normal nappies. They are still a nappy but pull on and off which makes changing time less stressful for you and your little boy will think he's really grown up too! If he's only done a wee they just pull down but if he's done a poo you can still change him as if he's got a nappy on as the sides peel away. It worked for me and most of my friends with toddlers use them. Give it a go, good luck xx

My daughter is almost 20 months and hates it also! Before I change the diaper I let her know that I am going to change her diaper and when she throws her fit I set her on my lap and tell her that big girls don't throw fits and she has to get her diaper changed. She says "k" and lays down for me w/no fit. Doesn't always work but most of the time it does.

Thank you for your imput. That might be just the thing he needs is for me to be a little more laid back and let him roam around a little without a diaper for a change.

Sorry, unfortunately this is just a messy job. The only thing I can think of is give him a little free time, like after a bath, to run naked around the house. All kids go through a stage where they just want to run through the house absolutely naked!
