Thanks to all you moms for your help. We have a new doctor now and she is fabulous and the diaper rash is now under control. We have increased her yogurt intake, doing desatin creamy over night stuff and hydrocortizone cream as needed and she is looking alot better. Thank you all for your help!!

My son has had problems with diaper rash a lot. Part of it is if he is unknowningly exposed to carrots, but otherwise he will just break out in bad ones. I have prescription for Triple paste medicated ointment. It is also availble OTC in smaller containers (I have a 1lb tub of it) otherwise I have always used destin creamy the overnight one and that seems to work for my daughter sometimes when it is really bad I put baby powder on top of it. This might sound kind of odd but what does the diaper rash look like? When my kids diaper rash would get really bad they would also start to get a yeast infection.

i was really luck my daughter never got a nappy rash i was always told to let her wonder around the home as much as possible with no nappy on and to get as much fresh air to her bum as possible, it can get quite messy at times but i seemed 2 work 4 me

I have used Penaten with both of my children and it works great. It is medicated to clear up rashes and it is great for preventing them. I have also used corn starch, which is good for preventing but not for clearing up an existing rash.

Okay..the vasaline works more as a skin protectant and the good thing about it is you don't have to "scrap" to get it off. That usually causes things to get worse. Aquaphor is just like vasoline...with a little more "kick". If vasoline is doing the trick try Aquaphor!! Promise you won't have any more problems. You can get it at Walmart/Walgreens. $6-$7/tube. Some baby rashes are anti fungals, but not all of them. I would be careful in using anti-fungals if you don't have a fungal rash. Sometimes they look like little dots (yeast). I agree with the "creamy" "ointment" stuff makes it worse...throw them away!! It hurts their poor bottoms getting it off!! Good luck!!

my son was in the hospital for 2 months at birth with a severe infection. he had extremely bad diarhea from the antibiotics which gave him a very nasty diaper rash. The nurses in the hospital used Zincofax on him and it seemed to work really well.......

Butt paste is awesome! My daughter had horrible diaper rash about a week after she was born and we started using the butt paste...a big jar of it last forever and isn't as expensive as triple paste...use it everytime and the rash wont come back...we did have to keep her out of a diaper for about 36 hours to dry it out which was hard ! Good luck!

Hi,

The same thing happened to my daughter when she was 18 months. I tried everything and the rash wouldnt go away. I decided to take her to a dermatologist and it turned out she had Eczema. If what ever else you try does not work, my suggestion wouldbe for you to take her to a Dermatologist.

Good luck.....................

I swear by Triple Paste, you can buy it at Walgreens or any pharmacy. It is the best thing ever. Kadey had bad diaper rash and nothing else worked. I put it on and the next time i change her diaper the rash is gone. its expensive but so worth it. They sell it at Walmart too for cheaper.

we were told by our dr to use lotromin put a thin layer on, leave it on for a few seconds, wipe it off and apply a thin layer of hydrocortisone cream. it will take the rash away quickly. i have also had good luck with butt paste.

egg whites is a good remedy. just whip the egg white and plaster it on. i know alot of people have said to use baby powder but here in england our health visitors tell us not to use powder on little girls as there is a link to ovarian cancer in later life. iam not sure how acurate this study is but have not used powder on any of my 5 daughters. better safe than sorry i think xx

A couple months ago my son had a really bad diaper rash due to an allergic reaction to antibiotics, it was so bad that his poor bum blistered and bled, and he couldn't sit down. So I mixed equal parts of Sudocrem and Canesten (the vaginal cream), and the rash was gone within two days! I've read studies that show that diaper rashes have a lot of the same causes as yeast infections, and that is why I thought to mix the two creams!

my daughter gets a diaper rash if i keep her in disposible diapers for too long, i have been using the cloth diapers. and it seems too help clear it up (no chemicals like the disposables) also if you are still breast feeding is could be a hormonal imbalannce (much simliar too the rashes babys get when they are first born) it could also be from the wipes themselves. could be allergic/irritated to the liquid used to soak the wipes. hope this helps!

The foot cream thing works, our daughter used to get the worst diaper rashes I mean like open sore type diaper rash it would be there one day and gone the next it was the wierdest thing; but the foot anti-fungal cream really works just make sure not to put it on any open sores use neosporin for that.

THANK YOU EVERYONE!! All the info I have read from all of you is greatly appreciated. As of right now it is clearing up a bit using vasoline, but she has it a bit here and there. Oh and the butt paste made it worse and the desitin clear stuff made it worse to, and she screamed and got bright red when I put malox on it so we are taking it day by day figuring it out, but again thank you all for your help!!!

I dont know if you have tried this but it works when my little boy has it. Bath them in warm salty water and let them soak in it for as long as you can stay with them then let them have nappy free time before putting a nappy on. Also if you can get your hands on any (not sure where you live) but I buy paw paw (its a tropical fruit cream) ointment from Australia and that works a treat. Hope that this helps x

For my daughters i use Sudocream works like a charm, but be careful because diaper rashes can be mistaken for yeast infection. My eldest had that problem, it was a really bad rash couldnt get rid of it took her to the walk-in-clinic and the on call dr. said to keep doing what i was doing. I made an appointment with my dr. he said that it was a yeast infection. For a yeast infection all you have to do is by the canestin cream (for external use) use that until it clears up. Hope that helps.

www.breathenatual.com the bum salve is fantastic and so natural you could eat it if you felt the urge:)

also Cloth diapering is the best for baby the rash could be caused by the reactions in the diaper with the urine and the chemical that are in disposable diapers... http://grasshopperdiapers.com/ is a good diaper to buy, the first expense of buying diaper seems expensive , but you never have to buy diapers again:) it actually saves you money. and if you dont want to buy www.comfycotton.com has a diaper service. you wont even have to wash them:) diaper rash will disappear with any one of these pieces of advice:)

My Doc gave me a great home remedy, here it is: Mylanta Original to moisten white paper towel to dab on baby bottom after it is cleaned. Use hair dryer on cool/low setting to dry the Mylanta(if your baby freaks out from the noise just make a fan out of paper). Then put a mix of miconazole (athletes foot cream) & 1% hydrocortisone cream (50/50 mix). Apply 2-3 times a day. Then use A&D or Desitin for the other changes. It worked great for my kids who are now 4 & 2 1/2 yrs. Hope it helps you too :o)

Hi Shannon.. personally my daughter doesn't get diaper rash too often, but I found that when she does, I use Sudocreme. Its in a grey container with a red and white label. The hospital use this creme in the burn unit and I've never found anything that works better than that. It usually only takes one use and the rash is gone. But like all the other moms have said, you should also try to find out whats causing the rash.. too much juice is a big one for sure.. and whether or not she is allergic to something she is eating.

Using a good absorbing diaper (my recomendation is Pampers Baby Dry, they're more absorbant than the crusers or anything huggies make) and change the diaper often. Avoid anything cirtis (which includes apples and juices). Try and get your daughter to drink LOTS of water without any juice in it. Use vasiline to keep the moisture off of it and ask your docter if it's a yeast infection. My daughter had one for 4 months before my docter finally figured out it was a yeast infection (which needed $90 cream to clear it up). After you get the rash to go away you should continue to use vasiline or baby powder to keep her dry or the rash will come back. Good Luck.

Hi, I'm pregnant with my first, but I know my little sister got bad diaper rash when she was 18 months. The reason was too much fruit. I can't remember the powder my stepmother used though.

I feel your pain! My friend works at a Children's Hospital and one of the pediatricians gave her this homemade remedy for her son's diaper rashes. She gave me the secret recipe as my daughter's diaper rashes were horrible after being on an antibiotic. She said this worked better than the expensive prescription that her pediatrician provided her. My daycare provider couldn't believe how quickly this worked! Also, add a little baking soda to the bathwater. That really helps as well!

Diaper Rash Cream

3 - 1.5 oz tubes of A+D diaper ointment (found by the other diaper rash creams)

1 – 1 oz tube of hydrocortisone cream

1 – 1 oz tube of athletes’ foot cream

i had the same prob. with my first daughter, it turned out she was allergic to zinc(the main ingredient in diaper rash creams, and it is a very common allergy!!!)

now i just have to make sure we don't get one in the firts place which means naked baby time, and powder at every changing!

I never had to deal with this problem with my own son. It has run through my families kids and they have all used burnt flour.Just put some flour maybe a cup(it should be enough for a couple of applications).brown it in a skillet. It smells horrible but it really works.Let it cool to room temp, and then sprinkle it in diaper as needed. It acts as a absorbent.Good Luck.

If you haven't done this maybe you should try a different kind of diaper .

It may not be a diaper rash at all. It could be thrush. It's a type of yeast infection and it looks a lot like diaper rash. You'll need not only a prescription butt salve but an antibiotic to get rid of it. Check her mouth for white patches that looks like left over spit up or dried formula. This is another place it grows. Once treated it goes away quickly.

I read all of the responses, and I agree with the cornstarch to soothe it, but really the most effective thing will be to figure out what's causing the problem.. good luck :)

Try Arbonne baby products... No fillers such as petroleum jelly or mineral oil which are harmful.

After reading everything, I agree and have also used the Lotrimin for my 2 sons. They both have had what I thought was a bad diaper rash but it actually was a fungus (like a yeast infection) They both got this after getting over being sick too. Hopefully you can find something that helps!

If diaper rash creme doesnt work it could be a fungus on your babies bottom. I know this sounds gross, but it happens. You would use Lotrimin to heal it.

I have had success using plain yogurt. You can't use any of the flavored kind because the amount of sugar in it makes it not work, but the plain stuff has the good bacteria's in it that heal well.

My daughter gets HORRIBLE rashes everytime she gets a new tooth. It's miserable for the poor girl.

We've had to get several creams from her Dr. cause NOTHING ELSE we've tried works, or works for very long.

We've used A&D ointment (which helped for quite awhile and we still use it off and on) Vaseline is ok as well too.

When I notice her getting JUST a little red we slather on the desitin over night in great quantities and that seems to do the trick here lately.

The baking soda and water thing NEVER worked for us, but I've heard it has worked for a lot of others.

I noticed someone on here mentioned the Lanolin cream for breast feeding, I hadn't heard or tried that one, so I will have to give it a try!

My daughter only had diaper rash that was worth writing home about once. It was actually so severe, we went to the Dr's. Turns out that she has a bad reaction to Omnicef - gives her horrible diarrhea :(. Anyway, he gave us a wonderful trial-sized vial of Happy Hiney. Literally, overnight she went from having open lesions with lobster-red skin to a slight pink-ness. This is no exaggeration, I promise. The only problem is getting hold of it. According to the website they are (and have been for at least 1 1/2 yrs..) in the process of switching manufactuers and are in severe back order. Other than that, for the minor rednesses, I just would fan her bottom between changes and apply a dusting of cornstarch baby powder.

I have a boy in my class (I teach 1yo's) who breaks out in a horrible lesion-filled diaper rash if he has ANY poop on him more than about 5 minutes. We generally use Beaudraux's Butt-Paste on him (which takes about 3-5 days of vigilaint use to clear up completely), or Triple Paste when it gets really bad. The Butt-Paste burns my skin if I'm in contact for more than about a minute, but his skin is also super sensitive, and it works wonders for him.

(If you can get hold of the Happy Hiney folks, though, that is a miracle in a jar.. or tube.. I had no luck when I last tried over a year ago, though... )

well is she on formula? is she pooping alot? because you can use remedies to get rid of the diaper rash but the main thing is what is causing it? my son had the same problem he was on formula and it turned out he had a milk allergy so we went to a soy based one and presto...gone! it was really bad diaper rash...he even got scars from it and the doctor just told me how to cure it not what was causing it..i just thought that that was what it was 'cause my older son had a milk allergy too until he was about three...let me know if you try this and if it is what it is..hope i have helped!

My daughter was so sensitive to desitin and all baby wipes. I actually wash her bottom over the sink when I change her. It doesn't take as much time as you think. It saves a lot of money because you don't have to buy wipes. I just lay her on a towel, prop her bottom over the edge of the sink, remove diaper, use a dot of soap to wash her off, scoot her back on towel and pat dry. Afterwards, I use vaseline (petroleum jelly) to protect her skin when the diaper is on. I finally found that Pampers Unscented Wipes do not bother her. The only brand! I just use them while traveling though and still wash her when at home to save money.

**Diaper rash can also be caused by acid irritating the skin from different kinds of food she eats. Like too much orange juice can cause bad irritation of the skin.

My son gets horrible diaper rash almost instantly and nothing really works for him except a prescription called Nystatin. It is a topical cream. At some point the diaper rash is beyond anything "over the counter" - it is almost a yeast infection. Ask your doctor to prescribe this. Worth every penny! They will be more comfortable within 24 hours - especially when put on at night right before bed.
