I just want to know because I just started getting in my 3rd trimester (which I'm still in) and I put coco butter on it everyday and it doesn't seem to be working much. In time do they start to fade?

I have some stretchmarks on my sides and at first they were red,, and some looked kinda purple, but I got some cream for strechmarks through Avon, and they turned white, so they were harder to see...but they will always be there...

I would have to say that some do and some don't. The thicker ones wont. The lighter ones will fade in color and practically disappear. Don't fall for all the "miracle creams", most of them don't work. Drink lots of water and try vitamin E. Its about the only thing that will help.

It Works! offers the Ultimate Body Applicator and a Defining Gel which both help reduce the appearance of stretch marks. I didn't believe anything could make a drastic difference in just an hour but the wrap which detoxifies, tightens, and firms really does. I lost two inches off my waist and my stomach was smooth. https://shotwellwraps.myitworks.com

my mother got me some "Apothecary" creame from Nordstrom for my stretch marks and I don't have any. It may be a bit expensive but get it anyway b/c its well worth it. My son is almost 3 yrs old, I still have some left in my bathroom. I used it sparingly on my butt, thighs (all around the things) and underbelly.

I tried EVERYTHING...and still have them and it's been almost 20 months since I had my daughter. The lighter/thinner ones do go away with assistance...but the long/deep/thick ones are still on me. I would buy Vitamin E Capsuls at the Target or Walmart- break like 3 or 4 of them open and rub them on your marks each night...I think that is the best advice I can give you. My doctor swears by it, and I believe it has really helped me the most that it could.

I got strech marks that only started to apear in my last month! they are gross now and really purple!! I got then all on the underside of my belly and then on my sides. I went to my 6 week check up and the doctor said that they would fade to the same color of my skin. but i don't think they ever really go away. there are things you can buy that will help them fade.

yes they do fade , some take longer than others n once u give birth you will notice more of them that u didnt see b4 while u were pregnant, i used olive oil for my first pregnancy and had hardly any but the key is to start rubbing it in as early as possible so your skin is more stretchy n while in the bath thats when your skin absorbs more well i think so anyway

My daughter is 14 months old and unfortuneatly I got so swollen during the last few months of pregnancy that I got stretch marks everywhere!! Some have faded though and in time you realize that you don't care as much as you do when they first appear. I have tried Trilaxin cream and it worked but I couldn't afford all the time. I'd say just keep doin what you're doin and in time they will fade!

saras right, its in ur DNA. i still have all of mine. they're everywhere, including my sides. the only thing they do is fade from purpleish to whiteish. i've lost all my weight (including some more) and thankfully they're white and hard to see unless ur really looking! my youngest is 2 & i'm no longer ashamed to wear a bikini :)

it is in your DNA if you are to get them or not. once you get them, they do not go away they only fade. so if you are lucky they will just fade to the point where you dont even realize they are there. i have a bazillion of them all over my stomach and it sucks but i hope the more weight i lose the more they fade. soo good luck with it ;)

[deleted account]

I never had stretch marks, even with as big as I got with both of my children. I am pretty thankful, I have to admit... but for those of you that have them/have had them, I feel sorry.

First of all, I never used cocoa butter. I think my Husband rubbed it on my tummy once with my son and once with my daughter. So, I just wanted to be upfront and say that THAT is not why I don't have them... how I managed to be one of the few that was blessed-- I honestly do not know.

I have seen several of my friends and just women in general on the beach (we live at the beach) with stretch marks, the purple & reddish ones and some of these women are up in age... so, will they ever go away? I don't think it's too likely from what I have seen, but perhaps they do fade?

And also Bio-oil! Its fantastic! I Just started using it on some surgery scars and they have really started going down!

Scars are different from stretched/torn skin.

Between 75% and 90% of women develop stretch marks to some degree during pregnancy. The sustained hormonal levels as a result of pregnancy usually means stretch marks may appear during the sixth or seventh month, primarily during the 3rd trimester, as that is when skin tends to be subjected to higher levels of stretching forces. Often, of all the factors involved in stretch mark development, the only one over which an individual can retain control is that of diet.

Only one randomized controlled study has been published which claimed to test whether oils or creams prevent the development of stretchmarks. This study found a daily application of a cream (Trofolastin) containing

Though cocoa butter is an effective moisturizer, no research studies have shown its ability to either prevent stretchmarks, or to reduce their appearance once a stretch mark has already formed.

Various treatments are available for the purpose of improving the appearance of existing stretch marks, including laser treatments, citation needed] Some cream manufacturers claim the best results are achieved on recent stretch marks; however, few studies exist to support these claims.

A study in the journal Dermatologic Surgery showed that radiofrequency combined with 585-nm pulsed dye laser treatment gave "good and very good" subjective improvement in stretch marks in 33 of 37 patients, although further studies would be required to follow up on these results. In addition, the use of a pulsed dye laser was shown to increase pigmentation in darker skinned individuals with repeated treatments.

A surgical procedure for removing lower abdominal stretch marks is the tummy tuck, which removes the skin below the navel where stretch marks frequently occur.

A new modality,

Half of that went WAY over my head! (not very good with big words me) lol but thanx for the info. Definately intrigued with the "fractional laser resurfacing" and thanx for the links! will defo be doing a bit of research on that one!

OK I couldnt even get ahold of all that info but let me tell you Jessica is not kidding bio-oil is fantastic....I use it on my stretch marks and it has worked wonders like no joke!!!!!!! I use it everyday it recommends twice but with a nine week old you dont alwys have an opportunity LMAO Try it its soooo worth the try the bottle is small and last like a week but for $12  its sooo worth it!  Let me know how things work out!!!!!

By the time the weight's gone and you're ready to be in a bikini again, they will have shrunk and faded. Darker skin tones the healed ones are a little more noticeable than on pasty white girls like me :) Cocoa butter is great, but make sure it's actually the formula FOR stretch marks because there is a difference! Regular cocoa butter is just straight cocoa butter; the stretch mark formula has Vitamin E, Collagen and Elastin in it to help the skin heal a little better. The firming lotion Palmer's makes also has Q10 which plumps the skin a bit. Switch to the stretch mark formula ASAP, then use the firming after you start losing the weight. Good luck!

By the way, I had a belt of them around my hips and a HUGE patch on the left where my son would always lay. The skin on my stomach is still a little looser on the left side, but the marks are now just little silver squiggles instead of making it look like a tiger attacked me. You feel them more than see them. But it did take awhile to get them to that point.

im sorry about your luck on stretch marks... palmers has an oil to treat stretch marks.. i used that instead of the coco butter and my stretch marks were zero!!!!! so mabey if you swith to that now it will save you some trouble but drinking water and vit E is key to keep you hydrated and keep the elastin in your skin... goodluck!!!

you can use every cream known to man and it won't help. Stretch marks actually occur under the skin, so those creams can't do a thing about it. I know it stinks but some women get them and some women don't. If you have bad stretch marks they will never go away but they will fade over time. If they arn't too bad they may get to the point that you can't even see them anymore. I have both. I got some on my hips with my first that are completely gone. I also got some on my breast with my first that are still here and she's four years old. I didn't get any with my second yay!

when i was pregnant with my son I had a few on the left side. After I gave birth to him within 1 week I had so many. I used the coco butter while I was pregnant and it didn't work at all. 8 months past and I still had them. I had heard about this stuff called bio oil, so went and bought some. It's only been 2 months and it has really reduced my stretchmarks. So it may work for you too. Good luck

well I was told that coco butter works but it doesnt. If your prone to get stretch marks and it runs in your family... then your going to get them and you cant do anything to stop it. As for them going away, they wont ever completly go away.. they will fade but they wont go away completly!

One word - Pentaxl

Its kind of like a 'botox-in a bottle' as I like to call it. It helps reduce scars/stretchmarks. Ive seen a young girl who was bit by a dog on her face, it was a bad scar - after using the pentaxl - all she has is a dimple left on her cheek. Check it out, or try it out at: www.marketamerica.com/cvk scroll down and click on 'view more' under Featured Brands - and then click on Pentaxl --- good luck with whatever you find!

I have read on the internet that some womens skin does reject stretch marks after the pregnancy has ended...but its rare...also I read that as long as the stretch marks are still red or blueish or even purple in color will fade if you use lotions that eliminate stretch marks. Stretch marks that are silver or whiteish in color can be very very difficult to get rid of.....I used mederma on mine and it help significantly but depending on how many you have it can get expensive....your best bet is to keep up with the cocoa butter during your pregnancy and after but then combine it with a stretch mark removal method.....thats just from my personal experience.....they will not go away completely but it should help alot....and eventually they will become invisible....just remember it takes time....as do most things with pregnancy and childbirth...try not to let it get you down.....you will end up with post partum depression like me....just keep your head up...congrats on your new lil one.

I dont like mine in the slightest but since I've had them 4 the last 11yrs Im kinda used 2 them now! lol. My cousin told me that they're braille for: "I love my kids!" How cute is that?
