Do you nap when your kids nap?

Do you feel it is safe? I have a two year old, and I am due with my second in about a month and a half. In the afternoon when my daughter naps, I have been napping as well. The doors to the house are locked (though she can unlock the back door which opens into a fenced backyard that she CAN'T get out of). I have the baby monitor on, so I know when she wakes up (and I always wake when she does.) If I don't go find her right away she comes to find me. Just wondering if there are any other moms that dare to nap when their kids do.

Psssh! I'm pregnant with my 3rd and some mornings I simply can't function so I nap on the couch while my 3yr old and 21mo old play. Some kids can't be trusted(and those of you who have them know who they are) but my kids are actually very well behaved while I'm sleeping. I would say that you are totally fine. If you're still worried, do you close the door to her bedroom? That's what I do with my son when he naps, simply because he'll keep trying to leave the room. He just starts knocking on it when he wakes up, lol. You need your rest so that you can take care of your daughter when she is awake. So go! Get your nap! :-)

I take advantage of them when I can. Unless I am not really tired at all and absolutely have to clean then I just wait until they are down for the night! The only thing is now since they are gonna be 1 next week, most of the time they don't sleep as long as they used to which is a bummer sometimes but I guess it keeps me on my toes! :)

Definately!! I napped all the time when my daughter slept because I was pregnant with my second also. You need your rest and it sounds like she knows what to do when she wakes up anyway! I still nap with my kids sometimes, like today :-) We had a big day at the splash park and we all took a nap. Hope the birth of your second goes well!

I do nap at times when my chld naps. But what I do is that I'll let her nap in bed w' me... this way I can hear her closer than the monitor, etc... etc.

I only have a 16 month old, but if I am very tired, and think I may be able to sleep, I definitley nap when she does. I keep her door closed (which she cannot open yet) and there is a gate in the hallway in case she learns to open the door. She could only get into my room or hers. I do not use a baby monitor any more as her room is right next to ours so I generally always hear her when she wakes up. She isvery good about playing with her toys for awhile and being good. I hope she stays that way. I also hope this helps you feel more at ease about taking a nap. If you are taking the necessary steps for her safety, you are doing fine.

Yes, absolutely!! I don't do it as frequently anymore but yes! We actually turned the doorknobs the other way on our kids' doors so the lock is on the outside and not on the inside!

When I had my daughter and she'd nap, I would also. But then when my son came along sometimes they weren't on the same schedule, so I couldn't always get a nap in myself.

I have 19month old b/g twins. They take one nap a day and I nap at the same time. I need that mid-day nap just to keep up with them for the rest of the day.

It's absolutely fine! I have a three year old rambunctious little boy and when I'm not napping when he does, I'm catching up on housework but I work at a private daycare too and I nap when the kids nap because I'm by myself and they lay down at the same time.
I see nothing wrong with napping when your daughter does, you are taking all the right precautions and especially being pregnant really wears on the body...I say nap away while the children are asleep.

I have been trying to nap while my son is taking his nap, for I am pregnant as well and am very exhausted. I would suggest a child safety gate for her bedroom door, unless she is able to get over/around it; to which I would suggest napping in the same room, with the door closed and maybe have a little bell ornament hanging from the knob, to wake you from the sounds of the door being opened. Just a few suggestions... things that I would do. :) Hope I was able to help!

Yes I nap when my girls nap. Some days I need it so bad. I just make sure the house is locked and I always hear my 3 year get up. I also have a lock on my front door that my 3 yr old can't reach.

My son is 8 months and I nap when he naps alot. He is napping right now and although I could nap right now I wanted to see what was going on here. We set up the pac-n-play in the living room so if I nap it is on the couch and if he wakes up before me he is safe.

my daughter takes two naps during the day. i place her in her crib and turn the volume on the baby monitor up and i crash in my bed. it may be a bit different as my child is 5 months. but yes when she gets older i still plan to rest during that time. i do not think i could function with out it.
i always sleep through one nap and clean /do what ever needs done on the other nap. she sleeps from 9-11 in the morning and anywhere from 1/ 1:30 ish to 3 pm. doors are locked no one comes in or out so i would say its safe.

I say go for it. If you're lucky enough to be able to nap when your child naps, tnen do it. I mean, you sleep at night when she sleeps, why not during the day. I wish I could nap! I would if I had the opprotunity and it didnt make me so groggy afterwards, but I'm back at work and I'm a nanny for 2 boys and I bring my baby with me, and unfortunantly the 4 year old no longer naps, so he's up alllllll day.. so no nap for me when the other 2 sleep. Otherwise I would try! So I wouldn't worry about it. Everyone does it at some point in time if they can and you are pregnant, so take advantage of naptime :) Congrats!

any chance i can i take a nap. i have a 16month old a newborn. i just put my son with me in bed or on the lounge and my daughter is in the portacot in the lounge room. And I wake up as soon as one of the kids do. i believe for the safety of the children and your own sanity you need to rest when ever you can. the house work will still be there in an hour the chance to nap prob wont be

When I was pregnant with my son, I napped while my b/g twins napped. My b/g twins turned two june 8th, and I had my son July 12th, 2010.

I wish I still could nap while they nap, but my son doesn't have a very good sleep schedule yet.

yes, I absolutely do! I just had my fourth child four months ago and right now I need all the sleep I can get! I have an almost 12 year old, an almost 4 year old, and an almost 2 year old in addition to my four month old. The two year old and the four year old share a room and when they go down for their afternoon nap I nap on the couch in the living room not far from their room, in case they do wake up. I lock the deadbolt (it's the double-sided keyed lock - they can't reach it well enough to turn the key) when my oldest is at school and not due home and if I get really antsy about the "what if's", I'll put a doorknob cover on the inside of their door so they have to wait for me to let them out. But, fortunately they are good kids and if they do come out of their room they look for me and know not to open any of the doors that lead to outside, without permission. Definitely continue your nap, safely :-). You need it!

I also take a nap whenever my 2-year old daughter naps though I never lock the door in the room. I have this biological clock connection with my daughter that whenever she wakes up, I too wakes up. Or if I am really really tired, I put one of her legs on top of mine so that when she moves, it wakes me up. I do not see this 'taking naps' in a negative way because it is helpful for me to recharge and gain energy for the following hours that she'll be awake. Oh! I do not use baby monitor as well :)

I nap when my children nap! Not everyday but there are times when a mother needs a nap too, especially when you have more than one child. I think it's a good thing that mothers nap when their children do, if they have the time to do it. It rejuvenates yourself and rests you up for the rest of the day with your wild munchkins, lol!!

Absolutely I nap when my two darlings are asleep! We all need our sanity and not to be walking around bleary eyed and over tired. Ours is definately the hardest job in the world we work 24/7 so we deserve a break every now and then. And if the monitors on or if they know to come in to you then go ahead I say! Refresh your body our you'll end up in a heap!

I sure do! My daughter is 14 months, and I'm 24 weeks pregnant with our second. Of course, the situation might be a bit different since my daughter is still in a crib, and it sounds like yours is a toddler/big girl bed. Even so, I would still nap. There's no difference between her waking up in the morning and finding you and after nap time (that I can think of anyway). :)
