My daughter has a minor one. She wasn't able to breastfeed because of it and there is only one type of bottle she can really suck on...and she can't keep a pacifier in her mouth. They tell me it shouldn't be bad enough to snip...but they also said it wasn't bad enough that it should effect her ability to breastfeed, and it did. As soon as she starts to really talk, I want it gone.

My nephew was born with that and they had it snipped, it was a very quick procedure and he was mildly uncomfortable for a day or so but after that it was no problem. I would suggest it, once he had that done he was able to eat much better.

My son had a tounge tie at birth but they clipped it the next day while we were still in the hospital! It didn't hurt him at all and he has been fine no problems since! If your concerned talk to your ped about getting his tounge clipped all they do is snip a bit of the skin from underneath their tounge to make it easier for them to move it! I do believe they can do it right there in the office!

Lol, Jodie, the doctor said that was the most important reason to get it snipped! That no child should ever go through life without getting to lick an icecream!

I was born tongue tied! My daughter is as well, but barely, it doesn't affect her eating ability enough for me to be too conerned. But if it's affecting his that severely, I would SERIOUSLY get it snipped! I honestly wish my mother would have had mine snipped when I was a baby, but she wanted to leave that option up to me. But as Rhiannon says, the older you get, the bigger a deal it becomes. I have one very large vein that is right in the way of getting it snipped in just a standard procedure...so I vote cut it as aweful as it sounds.

As a side note, I was and still am constitantly teased about the length of my tongue, harmless teasing but it gets old really fast. I have also never licked an ice cream cone without putting it up against my mouth all messy like, to even lick my lips I have to suck them over my teeth and basically into my mouth. I also have a very small basically imperceptible speech impediment. Do him a favor and snip it!

My daughter was born on the 20th September '09 and she also had a tongue tie. We had it snipped at the doctors about 4 days after she was born. There was no anaesthetic, but it was only skin at that stage. It didn't even bleed and she only cried while we held her mouth open.

My nephew also has one and they left his alone. If he has any problems with speech (it can cause a speech impediment) they will have it snipped then. Unfortunately the longer you leave the tie, the ticker the skin becomes and blood vessells etc. develope, so it becomes more of a big deal.

I would recommend seeing about getting it snipped ASAP. If it effects his feeding, they should have recommended it right at the start. At his age now, it shouldn't be too much a big operation to have it done? My daughter Logan's was done with just a sharp pair of scissors!
