Yeah mine does too...just make sure their nails are not long and/or sharp. My daughter got an infection because she broke her skin while doing it. We always pull her hand away now to avoid another one...

LOL my daughter still does and she's 4! It's like they don't know what the heck is down there, but they know they can play with it (not in a gross way)

Labia / lips / 'clit' / whatever. Their general vaginal area.

I think you're all referring to your daughter's labia ...not vagina.

COMPLETELY normal, however not always safe. They're crawling, and drooling on their hands. (Can't just go to the sink and wash them, either!) Plus, they can scratch or even rip themselves, it is THAT sensitive down there. Tell them it's 'aackky' or whatever you need to do.
They're exploring and discovering. They'll soon forget it's there, then find it all over again!

my son is 18 months old and thats his favourite toy the minute you take his diaper off it is completely normal think about it this way its something new to their little mind everytime they see it its not like a toe that they see all the time its like a new toy and ofcourse they touch it so no i would say dont be alarmed i would be more worried if she wasnt wondering what it was or why it was there shes perfectly normal

as the others yes!!!! Cheyanne was horrible about it. I've never cared, its her body touch away, BUT it was a race to who could get there first when I was changing a diaper, especially the bad poopy ones.

Did any other mom's with this issue deal with the next part.....
After she would get her hands down there, she would put them in her mouth! Each and everytime!!!!

I think part of it was the disguisted facial expressions she'd get from me.

yes!! My daughter was HORRIBLE about it!! I think its like they just finally realize this part of their body. All about learning different sensations of different body parts.

It's quite normal for children. My 8 month old daughter started doing it a few weeks ago. I thought she was starting to scratch her eczma but when it cleared up she continued to do it. I fine it funny. Her dad not so much.

My daughter who is ten months old has been doing that for a long time. I think it is just part the exploration process.

im pretty positive its normal, i worked in a nursery for 3 years and the majority of the babies around that age did that. i think they do it bc they have just descovered it and its new to them and they're curious. i wouldnt be worried unless it smells or something just doesnt seem right.

my daughter is almost 8 months and she has started doing that in the last few weeks......i think its probably just normal i would only be worried if she scratching and hurting herself :D
