Does it hurt to get your water broken?

no it didn't hurt just more uncomfortable, especially with the gush of water. i kept feeling it leak for hours it seems. i was also induced and it went great. but do get pain meds. you'll forget about everything once you see your baby. good luck.

I had my water broken both labors. I had an epidural with one, and natural the other and it does not hurt either way,

As a mom of three children whom I had to be induced all three times! When they broke my water all three times it did not hurt what hurts is when they have to induce you because by inducing the labor it is twice the pain and longer the labor I hated it all three times but Seeing there faces and precious little bodies in the end made it all worth the pain and knowing you are the reason they are in your life having a baby for the first time is very scary but the older they get it gets even more scary because you have to learn to let go more and more with each year to let them explore life know that is something I wish I had thought about when they were babies!!! But you will be just fine and hang in there it may seem like it will take forever but it will pass quickly but giving birth to a child is the most painful thing a women can go throw but our body are made to handle the child birth process!!

No, the water part doesn't hurt. I had a high break so the doc had to break all over again....doesn't hurt...AT ALL....Now, the baby coming out....I can't promise that won't hurt. Good Luck!!!! And many thanks to your hubby for his service.

I had my water broken and it didn't hurt at all, it just felt like a weird little tug. I didn't have an epi or anything, I went completely natural. They put in the Cidatex (sp?) to start inducing me, and nothing happened, they actually used 3 over the course of 2 1/2 days, I was just having slight contractions. I went in on Friday night and had my daughter on Sunday evening. the broke my water at about 1 pm on Sunday afternoon and I had my daughter at 557pm. As soon as they broke my water, which like I said didn't hurt, it is just uncomfortable because they have to stick their hand and the little hook thingy up there, my my contractions came hard and fast and that's where the pain was! It definitely isn't comfortable when they're sticking their hands up in you to check to see how much you've dilated and all that, but it didn't hurt to me when they broke my water. Good luck! I'm sure you'll do just fine.

I had my water broken & it didnt even hurt...I didn't even feel anything and as a first time mom I was only in labor for 8 hours & only pushed for 20mins. I was happy to get my little girl out

It doesn't hurt any worse than your weekly examination. More than likely you won't actually feel the bag break, you will only feel the gush of water. Thats all I felt anyways. It was uncomfortable, but then the doctor said it was done and I actually asked if it had broke. I guess I expected it to feel like a pop or something.

My water broke naturally with both girls and the pain was due to contraction, not my water breaking. My first baby, I didn't have labor pains until my water broke. I sat down on a friends couch and felt a POP and next thing I do is stand up. I thought I had broke the couch. There was a massive gush of water. If you can imagine a water balloon bursting, only on a bigger scale, that's what mine was like. I went to the bathroom until my friend brought me new clothes and then we headed to the hospital. Haley was out in less then 7 hrs. Haley was born full term. 6lbs 1oz 18.5" long.

Hana was a totally different story. I was in preterm labor for 3 days. Felt all the contractions, until they were able to stop them with Magnesium Sulfate and an epidural. They stopped the epidural and the contractions started again and my water broke. Again, that part didn't hurt, the contractions did. They immediately put in the epidural again and Hana was born within 3 hours of my water breaking. She was 2lbs 10oz and 14.5" long. She was born 12 weeks early.

Both of my girls were vaginal deliveries. Again, for me I wasn't induced, my water broke naturally with both babies, but neither "hurt". The contractions were what hurt and they went into hyper drive after my water broke with Haley.

You need to get an epidural labor is not that bad with it and no it doesn't hurt.

Not really.. It was uncomfortable. But I was also big as a bus, everything hurt. The water breaking thing was not my most favorite part... Didnt enjoy all that water all over my bed. It was ucky. But, my answer would be kinda. The stick is loooooong witha hook at the end of it. U will be fine girl.. Congrats on the new baby..

I was induced and had my water broken, I didn't even feel it, I just felt a big gush of warm liquid, kinda like I peed on myself. I was on pitocin and after my water got broken, it made my contractions hurt way worse. I had my epidural about an hour after my water was broken.. Good luck!

for me it was never painful at all..what really hurts is the contraction..i recommend you to learn technique breathing during labor.

nope. i had my water broken with both pregnancies. the thing that bothered me the most was feeling like i peed all over myself! the contractions will really start to hurt shortly (and when i say shortly i mean right after) afterwards. i tried not to get an epidural with my first but after they broke my water with my second pregnancy I asked them to be ready with the epidural! just a little warning lol

I had my water broken with my son, and it was really uncomfortable, but it doesn't actually hurt to break your water. I think it's more that your body is already getting sore and stretching out and the pressure of the doctors hand hurts more than anything.

i had my water broke without the epidural and it didnt hurt at all...Alyssa was my frist child and i thought i was going to be in labor for a long time, but i wasnt. I got induced on the monday and they were going to induce me again tuesday morning but there was no point i was already dilated...my labor was about 6 hours

well i didnt have an epidural and i felt EVERYTHING! i had my water broken and it hurted worse than the labor pains. now this is not to alarm you because its nothing you cant handle, but just informing you that if you dont get an epidural,then you will feel it.

no it don't hurt, but him getting in there to get at it was uncomfortable. it just hurt the pelvic bone for me as he was getting to the area. but after it was done, i had a little gush of water. i did it all natural and was induced as well. for me the labour pains were painful, but it was worth it because i had her within 5 minutes of pushing. and i got to go in the hot tub as well! it just depends on your pain threshold and on how gentle or rough your doctor is! good luck and congrats!!!!

when they broke my water with all 3, i just thought i had peed myself honestly!!! if i were you i would be a lot more worried about how long it is going to take for them to give you your epidural, them you sleep!!!

i was induced to, they gave me pitoscin idw how to spell it. i told my mom i had to go pee n next thing i know my water broke but the contractions get lil more intense tho. i didnt feel a thing when my water broke. i didnt have an epideral n my contractions didnt hurt tht bad i wanted the epideral but i didnt get it bc if i cant see where it is :) yeah my exams were uncomfortably to but if u dont have the epideral when u push it burns like hell tho but after it feels so much better.

I had my water accidently broken when my nurse was checking my dialation. I didn;t feel an ounce of pain. Just a gush of water. But It did make my contraction a LOT more intense after it was broken! No joke! I was 6 cm dialated when that happened, and had to wait on some blood test to go through before I could get my epidural. Thank god I was able to get it. Honestly, I thought contractions were painful, but I could bear them. After my water was broken, with every contraction, I felt that there was NO WAY I could deal with another one. When I got the epidural, I didn't feel a thing. Although, check in to your doctor doing it. Hate to give you a scare. My anesthesiologist (sp?) took 3 tries to get it right! The second time he put an air pocket in my spine...and I lost spinal fluid. It's no joke to know your doctors. I would rather deal through the pain, then ever deal with the chance of getting abad epidural ever again! The days after I couldn't walk. And I now get migraines on a weekly basis.

nope it doesnt hurt but im not gonna lie the pitocin that speeds up contractions makes everything ten time worse and it HURTS!!!!! They gave me the epidural but it didnt work due to my baby laying on some kind of nerve or something..... soooo contractions with the pitocin without epidural SUCKS!!!

All women are different, but mine did not hurt at all i had it done twice and didnt even know it was done. some women feel that it hurts..... what you feel at your weekly examination will probley be what you will feel like at the stage of the water breaking..

is this your first one? good luck with everything!! everything will be ok dont worry.

It doesn't hurt at all....I did no pain medicine at all with both of my daughters and they broke my water both times and it just feels like you are peeing yourself. And if you walk around after having your water broke it does sometimes leak out so you would probably want to put on some underwear and a pad.



I was induced with my second daughter and it happened faster than I expected. They put the small pill in place at 10:45am and I had my daughter at 3:30pm. The Dr broke my water at 4cm and at 2:30 I was 5cm and then all of a sudden I had to call the nurse in because something didn't feel right and she was rushing me to the bed calling for other nurses saying there was a baby coming....the Dr ran down from the OB/GYN unit and basically just made it because 5 minutes of pushing and she was out!!! But I know another person who went into be induced at around 10am and she didn't have the baby until around 10am the next day and they had to give her the pitocin where I never had to get teh pitocin. So everyone's bodies are different.



But good luck with everything and the best advice is to remember to relax and breathe!!!!

It did not hurt my contractions just got worst. Also just because you are getting induce on the 22nd does not mean you will have him right away It some times takes long when induced I was in labor 48hours after they induced me and then needed a c section because after they brake your water you only have some much time to deliver I believe it is 24 hours.

My water broke on its own, I got up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night and I was so tired I thought I had pee'd on myself!! For me it didn't hurt at all. I am wondering if what your friend is refering to is the intense contractions that tend to follow once your water has broke. Good luck and Congrats to you!!!

I hope you go into labor naturally because being induced is no fun. I was induced and it's horrible :( Breaking my water was the best part because you don't even know the are doing it. Weekly visits hurt and checking to see how dialated you are hurts as well. So I would not worry about them breaking your water. Good Luck...just remember the pain is temporary. Being a mom is forever.

I had to be induced and get my water broken as well. My weekly exams started hurting a lot as well, and before I had my water broken it hurt for them to check to see how dialated I was. I could barely take the pain when my doctor went to break my water, but it wasn't the actual breaking of the water that hurt it was more just all of the inside hurt. Ask your doctor to use a lot of lube, and it should help some with the pain. Good luck girl!!!

I just had my son on the 12th of January & the doctor had to come in that afternoon and break my water. The only thing I felt was a gush of water. No pain at all.

If you get the epidural it doesnt hurt at all, it's a little uncomfortable, but not painful. I had to have my water broken, and my daughter was born March 2nd too :o)

are they inducing you with PItocen (the IV meds) or cervidil (liguid type pill )inserted into you vagina and cervix?

the thing they use to break you water looks like a crochet hook and they usually wait until your at least 3 or 4 centimeters dialated to break it. the labor usually progresses rather quickly from that point especially if your being induced.. the thing I hated was feeling like I'd peed on myself. it will surprise you at exactly how much amniotic fluid is in that bag. every time you have a contraction more will gush out. :) and since its been inside your body it is very warm and sticky.

Bless you hon!! I'm in the same boat with you only I'm not due til the 12 and this is my 5th child. I've had my water broken with all 4 previous and the only thing that hurts is the contractions afterward. I have had epi's with all my previous ones but aren't planning to this time. (back pain and problems from previous epi's has me scared to try again) the bag of water acts as a barrier and softens the contractoins. Best wishes for an easy delivery!!

So I dont know how it feels to get it broken, but my husbands cousin went to her doctors appointment and she was leaking so they had to break her water all the way when she was admitted into the hospital. She said that as soon as her water was broken the contractions started and they hurt.. My water broke at when I was leaving work around 5:30 pm and I didnt start feeling contractions until 2:30 am the next morning. I think it all has to do with your own body.. Good luck

Hello, I am a 27 year old mother of 3. My first 2 were induced and they had to break my water both times. The act of breaking the water didn't hurt they stuck a small stick like thing in there to break the sac. The pain from the contractions became more intense after the breaking and thats where the pain is probably going to set in. It was more uncomfortable than pain....but then it was a big relief...I just didnt feel so full anymore after they broke it. But then the contractions got a bit more intense so an epidural came shortly after they broke my water!
