Does it hurt to get your water broken?

I'm 38 weeks, my due date is March 2nd. I'm scheduled to be induced the evening of February 22nd, my water will be broken the next morning, and I should have him sometime that day.

I'm just wondering if getting your water broken hurts? I have a friend who's had to do it twice, and says it really hurts. I'm not sure if it's like that for everyone though, I know that my weekly examinations sure do hurt though.

Anywho, if you guys could let me know your experiences, that would be great! Thanks!!

No problem! Glad I could help!

Where is your husband being deployed to? That's good that he'll have time with the baby before he leaves. That's important.

Well, I'm off to bed. I've been up late enough! lol Best of luck! Talk to you soon!

Thanks soooo much! It'll be super hectic starting all over in a new place with all new people, but I cannot wait. I know things'll be so much better after we're in the military. He lost his job about 4 months ago, and we had to move in with his parents. So, yeah, things have been tight. I'm just looking forward to having our own place, and our own little family :-D

Thank you! And yes, I am so ready to see him! Haha

And ok, awesome. I was just wondering because every time my doctor does an examination he says, and I quote, "You'll feel a little pressure now". I'm like "Uh, no, that's what we call pain!" Lol, so I was just wondering if breaking my water would be the same deal.

My husband is leaving for boot camp March 8th, so that's why we're having him a week early, I want them to have time together. It's going to be hard, but I'll have my family around to help out, so that's good.

Thanks again! It really helped :-D

Hi Sarah! Congratulations on being a Mom-to-be! I remember the anxious feeling of being at week 38 and just being ready to get that baby out!

I had my water broken by the doctor, and it just felt like I was having a PAP. It doesn't hurt at all, just slightly uncomfortable.

It helps if you use some kind of distraction when they do it to keep you relaxed, too. It helps keep your mind off the little discomfort you do feel.

Hope that helps! Good luck! You'll do great!

Thanks, everyone. The only reason I was asking is because I had never heard about it hurting until my friend said something about it. I am planning on having an epi, I've been having some really bad sciatic problems so I think I'll end up having to to stay sane.

Anywho, that makes me feel better :-) Agh, I'm so nervous lol

No it dont hurt at all. Honey thats the least to worry about..lol for me the pushing part by far was the hardest part to do. After everything is said and done seeing your baby the first time will all go away .. So good luck :)

I've had my water broke twice and it didn't hurt. If they are going to give you pitocin for the induction get an epidural. Good luck.

FOR ME, IT JUST FELT LIKE A QUICK POKE AND THEN A BIG GUSH OF WATER. IT FELT LIKE I WAS PEEING ALL OVER MYSELF. THE EXAMINATIONS HURT ME TOO. I DONT THINK THAT IT WILL HURT YOU BAD. I KNOW IT WONT HURT AS BAD AS YOU ARE THINKIN IT WILL. I HOPE THIS HELPS. CONGRATULATIONS ON THE BABY BY THE WAY.

It didn't hurt the two times I had mine broken, but the contractions got a lot more painful. That was the second time. It was done much later in labor and I did not have an epidural. The first time my epidural kicked in before the contractions.

I had my water broken and honestly if they hadnt told me they broke I would have never known they did. Are you planning on getting an epidural? Because if you are then you wont feel a thing
