Well...to be honest...labor pains were so painful that i didn't even feel the epidural. Staying as calm as possible while they are putting it in is the best and then the feeling of "nothing" you get afterwards is bless. Good luck and best wishes to you and your little ones.

i was in labour for 30 hours and pushed for three. i was at 5cm for 6 hours so they gave me an epidural and it hurt very much but only for a few minutes then u can sleep and relax. i had to have an emergency c - section and i could feel everything so i had to be put to sleep too. it felt like they were breaking my back and it burned so very much! if i have another baby i sure hope to have a natural vaginal birth

Mine hurt because my vertebrae were close together so he had to try twice. but its maybe 20 seconds and you aren't all groggy when it wears off, whereas if they put you under, you have a longer time coming back out. which means a longer time before you can meet your baby. if you're scared of needles, or you think being awake for surgery would weird you out, then be put under, it's something you have already experienced, so you know what to expect.

ummm honestly it was the worst pain I have ever been in!!!!!!! but my back is broke so he had to go in from the side so maybe thats why I felt like he was sawing my spine in half with a dull butter knife!

I waited to get an epi until I felt I could wait no longer. Then I had to wait about 30 mins for the anesthesiologist. Compared to the intensity of the contractions, the epi was nothing :) Don't be scared, if you feel you really need it, you will not care about the pinch!!

I didn't feel my first epidural but the second one, I freaked out. The guy who adminstered the epideral had to stop the procedure and ask me if I wanted to proceed. I think that me knowing what he was doing and seeing on tv had scared me the most. Each and every pregnancy is different. Each procedure for each time is different. I say do whatever makes you feel at ease, the main thing is a healthy baby. I've always wanted to go natural, so if you can then you go girl!

I thought it would because I hate needles, I'm such a baby when it comes to getting pricked but it didn't hurt that bad it was just different. I felt a little prick then a little pressure then like a funny bone tingling but it was quick..... I was dreading it for about 6 months before I gave birth but I couldn't have done it without it... My labor was pretty hard but I'm not one of those moms who could have done it without the epidural...super glad I got it. Soooooo, it doesn't hurt that bad, believe if I can take it, anybody can!! i had a c-section...freaked myself out about the spinal...wanted to be knocked out! it was done it 2 seconds and didn't hurt at all! usually if you don't get an epidural while laboring, and end up with a c-section, they will do a spinal...that's the way to go!

If you have had a c-section... that epidural wont hurt a bit. You have to be tough to do a C! Good Luck!

the epidural is no problem at all....i am scared of just about everything.lol it sounds kinda retarded but the IV and EPIDURAL was two of the biggest reason i didnt want to get pregnant. it hurts no more then a IV and its just the numbing shot that gives you a little stick....my anetisia guy was talking about a huge juicy burger from ZEA'S and totally took my mind off it to haha

i had an epidural as i was in labour for over 17 hours, and beleive me having an epidural was the best decision i made. it only hurts for a second when they put it in but beleive me that 30 seconds is well worth it!

I think it also completely depends on the person. I got one done, I had to have an emergency c-section and they pricked me with it in the middle of a contraction, I screamed. But once the freezing took over it was pretty bearable. So when you do get it just breath in and out deeply and you should be fine

I had an emergency c-section with my first and I thought the epidural was really painful. I had a scheduled section with my second and they did a spinal and it didn't hurt at all. I think everyone is different and it depends on the Dr giving the epidural because all of my friends say the epidural didn't hurt at all. Good luck with everything!

Ive had 2 kids naturally and had an epidural with both. Mine didn't hurt at all. They will give you a numbing shot which stings a little but after that you wont feel a thing. It really is a great thing.

I didn't think it hurt at all. You will feel a sting (kindof like a bee sting) and thats it. Personally, I thought the IV they put in my hurt more. Good luck.

Getting the epidural put in only hurt for a split second. It was after it wore off that it was really painful. My back felt like it was split in half! It was horrible.

I would suggest to go natural, I had a very bad experience with the epidural I got, it didnt work, and they administered it 3 times! and I still felt everything and have all the after effects like pain in my back (to where if I go to bend down its like my back catches and I cant get back up) so if I was to have another kid I would go natural because I wouldnt want to have even more negative effects the second time around.

NO!!! It's wonderful releif and does not hurt at all. All that you can feel is a teeny needle, then you're numb. The only thing that hurt for me is that the dr. was sticking his thumb in my back (I don't know why they have to do that, if it's to find the spot, or help when putting the tube thing in your back...) and that hurt because he was just jabbing his finger at my spine while I was having rediculous back labor. But the actual epidural is wonderful....and it's so much better than being asleep because you get to see your wonderful baby being born!!!!! I really don't know what all the hype is against epidurals. I'm getting my next one before I even feel the pain...last time I waited until I was having non step contractions because I was scared to get it also, but was so glad I did because I had FUN while in labor and everything went perfectly from there on out!

No it doesn't hurt, you will get a local numbing shot right before it..... I had to get the epidural twice because the first time I didnt get numb and I was having a c-sec. just try to stay calm and sit still. But the nurse should help you with that! Good Luck!

I don't think it hurt. I had amazing nurses that made sure I was positioned appropriately to administer the epidural. You need to be laying on your side, in a fetal position, with your knees to your chest (as much as you can with your belly) and your head down between your knees. Its more of a strange cooling feeling once the epidural is placed. I think anything is less painful/scary when you have people you trust around. It's also such an amazing feeling to actually see your child right when they are born. Good luck!

epidural doest hurt at all.......i neva felt anything as they administered it to me i tell..you...but then it depends on the anethatist how he gives it.....the nly thing that hurt was when they put in the drip...that was damn painfull........i was in labour for 18hrs......then when in natural birth baby... got stuck...and i was rushed in for emergency c-section...i was so glad i already had my epidural.......i will neva give birth with out epidural..........

The Epidural was AWESOME! I never felt a thing...the labor was what was killing me. The hardest part was saying still while having a contaction. Labor was a breeze after the meds...Someone very smart came up with these meds for a reason...So take advantage of them

for me getting the actual epidural put in my back was horrible. they missed where they were aiming for on the first try and hit a nerve and I jumped up off the bed. I felt like I had been electrocuted! it was horrible and I was crying and shaking! however, after that was all done and over with I was glad I had it because I felt no pain what-so-ever anymore. It made for a nice calm c-section lol

i have three kids and i all depends on your pain tollerance and how long you are in la bour for.The first one i had the epidural but my labour was 20 hrs long.I fou nd it extremelly sore and have a weak back now but i needed it so i dont regret it.The second and third ones were five and four hours long so i didnt have time but i am glad because i was walking around an hour and a half afterwards. your second baby can be much quicker. i would tell anyone to try not get it but if you need it take it and dont feel guilty for it.

Well, when I was having my son. I couldn't wait, desided last minute on having an epi. It is really hard to stay still. Well it starts with the local, which stings. They do the local very fast though, but i'm sorry to say that when they stuck me with the epi needle it made me kick out my leg, I did what you are not suposed to do. Flinched, it hurt. It didn't for my sister, but wow it hurt for me.. Well after all that, you don't feel that its in or anything. But again I was unlucky, it didn't work. It numbed my right side down my hip all the way to my toes on my right foot, so in the end an epi could have been skipped since I had to feel everything anyway. So I would not get it again. I have friends that its worked for, and that had no pain while getting it.. We all have a different tolorence for it, I am also really affraid of needles, but couldn't stand the pain. I still think it wouldn't have hurt so much maybe if I didn't over think it so much, laying there in fear of it hurting is probably far from helpful..

Hi, I really didnt want one but had no choice because my blood pressure etc. was way too high (and i needed it in the end) and I told the anaethetist i loved him once it was done - doesnt hurt... just hold someone's hand and relax and before you know it, its done!!!! They are fantastic!

I wanted to avoid an epidural but unfortunately due to a long labour I had no other choice. I am pleased I did as I was able to rest after having a long labour so far and with regards to whether an epidural hurts I can honestly say it did not and it was a lovely feeling when the cold liquid goes down your spine (well anything would be a lovely feeling after hours and hours of labour lol) so I would say you have nothing to worry about. I hope you are able to have the natural birth you are wishing for but if it doesn't turn out that way I hope you find the epidural as helpful as i did. Good Luck :0)

the nurse gave me a drug called staydol ( i could have spelled that wrong) and that made me loopy enough to not even know they gave it to me so it must not be all that painful, well atleast less painful then feeling a baby come out.=) itll be fine its the anticipation that makes it hurt so just relax there are better things to worry about like seeing that cute baby for the first time, and holding that little hand in yours. the epidural is the last thing that will be on your mind when the time comes.

i wish i could say mine didnt hurt...they stuck me, and they ended up putting the needle in crooked(sp), so they had to take it out most of the way and try again. it hurt like a b****, but it worked....on the right side of my body...so i had to lay on my left side to let gravity do its job, my left side ended up numb, and my right side got feeling again. it didnt help the person who did it didnt really know what he was doing. i didnt know this until AFTER he stuck me twice...after my son was born and when it was time for me to try and go to the bathroom on my own, i stepped with my right foot and i was fine, but as soon as i stepped on my left, i collapsed onto the floor. i ended up not being able to hold weight on my left leg for HOURS after it was taken out, but could bare weight on my right leg, but since i couldnt walk had to be in a wheelchair. i think all in all i would get it again compared to the pain of the contractions, but would not have another baby in a military hospital!

I had an epidural with all of my kids, and loved it! It didn't feel good, because they were having me lean over and I was having contractions while they were doing it, but once it was over, it was very plesant. I didn't have any pain at all. I actually thought about doing it natural, but I just could'nt deal with the contractions...I guess I'm a big baby myself!

so many people make a big deal about the epidural..i didn't want to go through the pain, and took advantage of the new technology so i got it..i didn't feel any pain at all..they just told me to hold still & gave me the shot..i felt a cool chill in my back, as the medicine was being injected, but NO pain what so ever..i think it will make your life a lot more easier..my mom always tells me & my sister that she wished they had epidurals when she was pregnant with us.

I have had3 kids and had an epidural each time. It did not hurt any of those times and it was a life saver for me. Just be sure and if you have any questions you can ask before they give it to you. And when they do it they will walk you through as they do it step by step, so you will know what they are doing as they do it. And if the do it whilr your contraction which they probably will, it actually makes it alot easier because your not thinking about what they are doing you are focusing on the contraction, so for me that helped. I don't think the epidural hurt at all. It felt like a lot of pressure when they give it to you and after that its fine. Your contractions will feel kind of funny, but its not painful. The only thing I did not like was when it was wearing off, I felt extremely weak.

But as others have said be sure it is most likely you may have to have another C section since you had it for your first. So be mentally prepared for both direction vaginal or C section. If you have had a c-section the first time you will most likely get another one again because it is more likely for either a breach birth or the uterus can collaps.. one of those.. sorry I forgot exactly what one is it.. I had a c-section and my doctor told me if I had another baby I would most likely have a c-section again because of one of those reason... But no an epideral does not hurt unless you get a bad anasteiologist(sp?) they numb the area first before the epideral you feel a lot of pressure though with the epideral as it goes in which is uncomfortable but it does not hurt... at least for me it didn't everyone handles needle pain differently...:)

I remember when I went into labor with my first daughter, I was scared to death of the epidural, but I was so relieved after I had it. I think the contractions mixed with the anxiousness of being in labor out weigh the epidural.

I had it and it didnt hurt at all, I suspect its more the thought of it, they wash a patch your back with a cold antiseptic first which was way more uncomfortable than the epidural.

when i had my epidural it felt like a small pinch r small bee sting it does not last and as soon as the numbing meds go in the tube you not feel the sting at all. Also i had a c=-section with my daughter and the docs told me that i properly would not be able to have a natural child birth and i would have to have another c -section but good luck!!!

I was in labor for 14 hours and dialated to 5 before I chose to have an epidural because I was afraid and then the only reason I got it was because I had only slept 3 hours in 2 days so I was exhausted. I worried over nothing, all I felt was a little bit of pressure and that was it. I know its scary but honestly there was nothing to it. And yes I would even get one again if I chose to have another baby.

It only hurts a little bit compared to the labor pains, and it is sooo worth it. I had been in labor for 16 hours when I got mine, and afterwards it felt so much better that I told my husband I was starving, and that was my worst problem of the moment.

im pregnat with my second baby with my first i was in labour for 15 hours n then ended up in emergency c-section but refused the epidural and wen to sleep now im trying for natural but if that doesnt work im back for a c-section again but dnt know wat to do plz letme knw
