Does the gender of the fetus determine the severity of symptoms?

Hey everyone,
I just have a quick, and maybe even odd question to ask! :) Does anyone know if the symptoms you experience while pregnant are related to what gender of child you conceived? I'm just curious because we just found out we're pregnant with our third, about 5-6 weeks, and with my other 2 pregnancies by this point I was puking at least once a day, while this time around, nothing. Not even a dry heave! Not that I'm complaining of course lol but my other 2 children are both boys, so I wondered if sex had anything to do with it as maybe we're having my long awaited little girl??? (i've got every finger and toe crossed that its a girl this time! lol) i'd still be happy no matter what, it'll just cost me more in sports equipment and household furniture....-_- lol Thanks for your help moms :)

"They" say the symptoms make a difference, but my pregnancies were pretty much identical symptom-wise, and I have one boy and one girl.

I'm sorry to report that it makes no difference at all. Between myself and my 2 sisters in law we have 9 kids. 8 boys and 1 girl. We each experienced a different pregnancy with each of our three pregnancies. Some we were sick the entire time and some we were fine. It's all a matter of luck. I was lucky and with each pregnany i got less symptoms and by my third the only symptoms i had were weight gain and heartburn at the end. As much as i tried for a girl i now have 3 wonderful boys and each pregnancy and labour were completely different. I wish you luck with your quest for a girl and hope it turns out to be. Sarah

I don't think it has anything to do with it although I must say that my 1st and 3rd pregnancies were very similar and I had girls my 2nd being a boy was totally different.

I say no as well. Our first child was a girl and my pregnancy was horrible (seemed to have everything going on that you possibly could..lol). Our second was a boy and my pregnancy was the complete opposite (very easy). Now, this is our 3rd (who will be born a week from tomorrow via c-section) and this one is a boy. And this pregnancy has been awful. So much in common with our pregnancy with our daughter, I could have sworn it was another girl..lol. But nope, this little man has been very proud to show he's a boy (had several ultrasounds and they were all the same..hehe).

i really don't think it matters, some say if your sick you're having a girl but you had 2 boys. i wasn't sick for my first pregnancy i had a boy then my second i was sick up until 20 weeks or so and i had another boy. i think it depends on hormone levels, tiredness and stress and other life factors. my 1st pregnancy i was working a really easy job and i was stress free and very excited my 2nd i was a stay at home mom, exhausted and dealing with my "terrible two" yr old, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer: it was too much. Actually pretty sure it was his tantrums and my stress that put me in labor 3 weeks early (lol) i look back and laugh now, he's a totally different child, my mom's healthy and the new baby fits right in with everyone. he's almost 1 now and my now 3 yr old plays with him and it's so darling to watch.

I had 5 children - 3 girls and 2 boys and I was sick with the lot of 'em! LOL. When my hubby left in the morning I was hanging over the toilet bowl and was still hanging over the toilet bowl when he arrived home in the evening! Cleared up around 4 months tho and everything was smooth sailing after that! Good luck.

I have two girls and had no problems (ie morning sickness) with either of them. I aslo lost a boy and no sickeness, cravings, or anything with him either.

I have 3 children and with the first two, I was so sick for the whole first trimester. I had a little boy first and then a little girl. My last (a girl) was a complete surprise because I didn't have any morning sickness at all. I didn't even know I was pregnant until I felt movement for the first time. :) Good luck and I hope you get that little girl. They are precious.

I was pretty sick (puking at least 1x a day, dead tired the rest of it until 14 weeks) with a basketball-under-shirt bump, and I had a boy.

I've heard that boys make for easier pregnancies and a cute basketball-under-shirt bump, whereas girls cause you to swell up all over and have bad morning sickness. But these are just rumours, and they were only half-true for me! :) Congratulations, whatever you have.

My 2 pregnancies were basically identical... really no symptoms at all. My first was a girl and I'm pregnant with a little boy now :)
Good Luck to you!

Of course there are thousands of myths and instances that may fit into them "knowing" the gender of their baby. But in all reality it is different... Mine were complete polar opposites!!!
My first son: I had morning sickness from about 5 weeks until 2 weeks after I had him. Why after I do not know, but still the same time everyday I was sick to my stomach. I had morning sickness 4 hours out of the day EVERYDAY! I had almost every cold I could have, and it was in summer time! I have never once gotten sick in the summer time,. I swelled up like a balloon, he sat right on my nerve causing my leg to go numb all the time, I had cravings of pickles, banana peppers, rolo's and milk shakes... I spent over half of my pregnancy in the hospital with bronchitis, strep, flu, hives, pneumonia, my blood pressure has NEVER been high except my entire pregnancy. I held Higher with his pregnancy.

My Second son: I had nausea some days, some days morning sickness but not really bad, I had heart burn that was so bad I would constantly find myself in tears!, I had totally insane cravings, my blood pressure was not high once, My skin broke out so bad with both of them... But my second son sat really low.. and I did not get sick once!! So to me these were totally different so I would have thought if those things were true then I would have had different gender babies... But I got my 2 boys!!!

My first two pregnancy were girls and I couldn't stand the smell of hamburger cooking but my third (a boy) all I wanted was hot from the pot ground beef! My morning sickness with the first last for months for a week with the second and started almost from the start and lasted until 12 weeks and was far more intense with the third I don't think your symptoms can predict but I do think that Mother knows best! although that's not foul proof either! I had a friend who swore her last baby was a boy and ended up with a third beautiful little girl!

No, unfortunately pregnancy symptoms have nothing to do with the gender of the baby. I'm pregnant with my second boy and both times...absolutely no morning sickness. I was like you too, the only thing really letting me know I was pregnant was a positive test. But I hope you get the girl you've been wanting (I know how it feels to long for a girl) ;)

I have always heard that with girls you tend to have worse morning sickness but who knows. with my first I had absolutely nothing it was a boy and with my second I had bad morning sickness and lots of heartburn and I had another boy, both bald with absolutely no hair so i dont think the whole heartburn=hair thing isnt quite correct either lol

I'm about 6wks pregnant too. I don't think the symptoms is very accurate to predicting the sex. I always thought it was the other way around the sicker you feel is a girl. Nothing is accurate just gotta wait the long haul until the ultrasound! I'm hoping for a girl also :-)

thanks for your input! I was just wondering because the first 3 pregnancies I had(the first ever being a miscarriage) all the symptoms were identical, the nausea, throwing up, tenderness in the breast area etc, I pretty much had the typical pregnancy symptoms. But this time around, not a single thing. Like I said, no dry heaving, no nausea/throwing up, my boobs haven't even started getting sore yet. The only thing telling me I'm pregnant is 2 tests lol Oh well, guess I'll just have to keep all those fingers and toes crossed! :)

No gender has nothing to do with pregnancy symptoms and symptoms can vary from pregnancy to pregnancy. I hope that you get the little girl you're hoping for! :)
